More snow on the way

Haven't had even one flake here yet. Doesn't seem likely since our December temps have been above average with highs in the high 50s and low 60s. We are having a La Niña winter. Our winters are pretty dry anyways, so I guess La Niña means it's going to be REALLY dry!!

Our last big dump was in late December 2005 when we got 2 feet of snow which is unheard of here. By Jan 5th, the schools were still not able to open and stayed closed an extra 3 more days.

The kids won't even have a late start on Monday, roads will be plowed within 1/2 day of the snow ending here-but we have enough snow that we have enough snow removal equipment too so that helps.

We have about 3" so far.

I was looking at the cancellations, It is ACT testing day and most schools have canceled their tests. That is going to be a pain to reschedule.

Sounds like a plan, there are blizzard watches out for SW MN already so I think it best that they stay home :lmao:. What show is at Mystic? We are supposed to drive out to the Lake Minnetonka area tomorrow night for DH's work Christmas party-hopefully the roads are plowed by then (they should be ok on the highways).

Yeah, my BFF lives in New Ulm and she called last night and said they had a 1/2 inch of ice and the winds were incredible!

We were supposed to go see "The Spirit of Christmas". Eh. I was more looking forward to stopping by hte slot machines at some point and the buffet!

It is really beautiful out there! Bowling just called, though, and cancelled. Dang!!!

We're supposed to get 9-12 inches here. :cool1:

And THAT's why you live in Minnesota! Personally, I find any amount of snow that traps people in their homes, dangerous and unpleasant. We lose electricity here and heat when stuff like that happens. Again, dangerous and not something I'd wish for. Now, I do like a few inches with the grass covered and a fire in the fireplace. Don't snow me in!

I have never lost electricity in a snow storm. :confused3

Haha...my dd posted on her FBpage that she hoped there was no school MOnday,,,I told her she is dreaming!! They just don't DO that here...lol..

We used to live in Toledo (Oh) up until 3 years ago and they actually did delay schools yesterday for less than 2 inches of snow! Seriously, its not like they never get snow there..last year they had more than we did...:confused3
It's always been like that there though, if they even THINK it may snow, they have to close or delay.

Our first winter here , we had the first big snow of the year around 7 inches and the kids were thrilled at a snow day...until they woke up to not only NO snow day, but not even a delay.......they were NOT happy!! LOL

It sure is white around here!! They showed the sky cam at MSP on the news and it was a total whiteout..

Rochester area is under a blizzard warning till 6 am tomorrow. I 90 expected to close today.

It's been years since we've had a blizzard, and it's not technically winter season yet!

Let it snow now and be calm weather for Christmas week.

My dd has two performance of the Grinch today that are in danger, since the school district has cancelled all activities. I am waiting for an e-mail to see if they were able to find someone to open the building for us.! I hope so, I don't want to lose these two shows.
We sold out last night and had to bring in extra chairs, I think people that were going to come today came last night.
My deck has at least 2 feet on it right now, it must be blowing weirdly back there. It is nasty!! But I don't think I would consider myself trapped, my dh left at 7 am to play tennis LOL.

14+ inches expected here today. Just light snow for us right now, but we are supposed to get slammed this afternoon. I am putting in a few hours at work right now, then going to pick my kids up and watch movies, do some baking, and just laze around the house. I cannot wait!! Unfortunately, DH is gone, so I will be running the snowblower today/tonight. We moved to a new house in September, and our new driveway is soooooo much shorter than the old one, which is nice. However, we are waaaaay off any main roads, so who knows when our street will get plowed. Our old street connected two main roads, so it was always plowed. We got 3 inches of snow here on Thursday, and our street never did see a plow!

The only time in the past 15 years or so that we have lost power was this past summer when a car hit a transformer station. Our power lines are burried so our lights don't even flicker.

We have over a foot and it is still coming. I have to get some pictures of our deck and the piles of snow. The airport is shut down, the pulled the buses off the roads. Snow plows aren't even out.

Plows have been doing great up here, we went to Target and it was very busy! We never lose power either, our lines are all underground also, thank goodness. It is nasty out there though, I bet a good 30 inches sitting on my deck. They cancelled the matinee of the Grinch, but we are still doing the 7pm show.

We are getting slammed pretty hard by this storm. It's crazy! We ran up to the store quick (about 1/2 mile away) and while the roads aren't slippery per se...its just so deep its hard to drive through. Our mail hasn't even come and I really will be surprised if it does. We have had snow plows come down a few times, but they just can't keep up. This is some crazy stuff! Our neighbors told DH it hasn't snowed this hard here in about 15 years. Kids had a ball playing outside though while it's still "warm" enough to do so. Not looking forward to the -25 wind chills that will settle in later on tonight!

Hmm, I haven't checked the mail yet. I am shocked at the things that are closed though, Childrens Museum, Science Museum, U of M Hockey game cancelled, Chanhassen and Hennepin Theaters have cancelled their evening shows. A true sign of just how nasty it is. But the Holidazzle parade is on LOL, those poor people!
Now they are saying we may cancel tonight too, but we won't know until 5, and we are supposed to be there at 5:30, ugh.
Poor dh is trying to wade through thigh high snow on the deck now to get it off.

Neither have we! Not even during the Halloween Blizzard! And in no way are we trapped - people are out driving all over. Just some snow...doesn't stop us from doing our normal things - just makes it easier to NOT do them. Allows us to feel ok about being lazy! :lmao:

Theres a report on Myfox9news that the NYJets were on their way to MSP for the game tomorrow and got diverted to Kansas City. You know it's bad when the Vikes game is in jeopardy..lol They said they're waiting for the snow to stop so they can clean off the runways, but apparently its supposed to snow until tomorrow, so it'll be interesting to see if they can play or not.

I wonder if anyone would even show up to Holidazzle? We went on Black Friday and it was PACKED!! even though it was cold! but I can't imagine people being able to safely get down there tonight..It's really messy out there!

The snow in our yard is up to DD17's knees and she is 5'9" ! My poor dog took one look at the yard and then proceeded to pee in the driveway instead..lol...she would have disappeared in the yard!

I just saw on the National Weather Service site that Oakdale is reporting 20" of snow as of 2;45 today.:scared1:

I just saw that the Santa Clause movies are one-PERFECT for a blizzard.
