Has anyone been to the Recycling the Magic store in Oakland? If you have, I'm intrigued to hear a little more about it, what the prices are like and whether it's worth a trip?

I've been debating whether to go on my upcoming trip in April/May. However we won't have a car and it's a bit of a trek from either WDW or from Universal (where we're staying in our first week), so we'd have to get a taxi. Also I can't buy anything too sizeable due to having to take it home on an international flight, however I have been interested in the smaller collectibles - the cast member name badges for example. Can't decide whether it'd be a fun trip out or a waste of time/money.

I have been a few times in the last few years, but I have a car and drive that direction. I've never been looking for something specific.

It's not a big place but it is jammed pack full of anything you can imagine tied to Disney. I've bought several printed items like a Disney Magazine from when AK opened. Last trip I bought a piece of original film of Madam Leota in MK. HUGE HM fan!

I would say we spend about an hour or so there as there is so much to look at and poke through. We've always left with a bag of things.

Just a fraction of what is in there!

That's a fair assessment above and some great photos! We went a few times on our trip last Summer. We got some neat items, and they have great stuff just to look at, even if you don't want to purchase. However, it's not the biggest store in the world -- and if bringing items home is an issue, it would kind of depend on how much the taxi would cost and if it knocks other plans out of your trip.

We came home with pins, some pin bags, some paper ephemera (an old Disney World ticket for the carousel), plastic bulb covers from Dino Land, a Figment film cell from the ride, and things like that.

Loving the hitchhiking ghost statues!

Thank you both. I think we may have to play it by ear and see how we get on time wise, if we have a spare afternoon or want a change to the parks for a few hours. Taxi is looking like it'd be around $20-25 each way so not cheap, so we'd have to make it worthwhile.

If they were in my budget they would have hitched a ride home with me!
