I signed up, with both relief at having made the big decision ;), and trepidation. I figure we'll never know if it will work for us if we don't try it. I was going nuts trying to decide if we should join. I bet if I were packing for a trip with the kids and with a kitchen, I'd have no doubts. DH, not so much, but HE'S not the one who packs. But his last email (we do our best "discussing" while he's at work and we email ;)) said "I think for the $ involved it makes sense to try it. Go ahead and sign up."

Questions:

We don't even have a trip planned! (Well, DH and I have a trip, but that's VERY SOON; I'd rather wait until the kids are going and we really need lots of "stuff".) The website says the membership fee gets charged 30 days before the initial trip, and the annual fee after the locker gets returned following the first trip, but what if that's not for a year (or more)? Trying to work around 3 kids with different schedules makes me  .

Can I store bleach? Are there any items that can't be stored? :confused3

The aerobeds that people said they've stored...how much space do they take up? (We'd get a twin.) DS always sleeps on the floor because his dear (older, of course) sisters take over the beds in the 2nd bedroom. He doesn't complain (I don't know why not...I would!), but it would be nice if the kid had a bed to sleep on!

Oh boy...I have an Owner's Locker! :yay: :yay: :yay:

I just signed up for this as well. (From the sound of it, the MouseSavers promotion has brought them a lot of new customers.)

There was nothing that said that the first trip had to be within a certain time period. So I think you won't get charged until the first trip - whenever that is.

I'm still thinking about all the things I want to put in mine. It really is a whole new way of thinking. One thing I know I want is a Brita water filter, and the tap water down there is ghastly. I wouldn't carry that back and forth with me, but it would be great to have it when there.

We signed up too. Yay. My DW was the one in our house not sure if we'd need it/wanted to spend the money/etc/etc. When I went to the OL site and scanned through their community section, I found numerous posts from people sharing what they have in their lockers. I printed them out, and then we sat down together and read through, exchanging papers as we finished. It really was an eye-opener! We are now both excited about the possibilities. Things like nite lights (we invariably have them on a "to pack" list and then ALWAYS seem to forget them)... to leaving laundry tabs/dryer sheets - to playing cards, pool stuff, etc, etc... I can definitely see the value to it. Just to have our own shampoos... it can make your head spin.

On our last trips to FL & CA in 07, we were overjoyed to be able to not have to bring along any of the "baby/toddler stuff" reducing our overall bag count...I can see how this will help reduce it further after the first trip. The possibilities are definitely there. :thumbsup2

As long as the bleach is safely sealed in the bottle, you can store it. Otherwise it may open up and ruin things in your locker.

Are there things that can't be stored? No. But I don't recommend storing guns or anything that you've stolen. If the police track it down, Owner's Locker may have to open your locker so the police can retrieve it.

Good about the bleach. :thumbsup2 I've crossed the gun off my list. ;)

What a fantastic thread. You all really know how to make a boy smile!

There is no requirement that you schedule your first Visit or make your first trip within a certain amount of time after signing up. We're in this for the long haul and don't want to have unnecessary rules that trip people up.

Yes, you can store bleach, but as Rita points out, make sure the cap is on securely. We've seen Lockers slip off a luggage cart and one time I saw one turned on its side in a luggage storage room.

MaryAnn, I'll probably sound like I'm trying to do a sales job, but your upcoming trip might be a good time to bring the stuff that you only use while you're at WDW so you don't have to hassle with bringing it on the trip with the kids. You'll also get a feel for just what the Lockers hold and I suspect you all will go on a Target run to load it up. If you'd rather not do this but still want to see what they look like, let me know your travel plans and I can let you know as the purple van passes through the resort you all are staying at.

gppnj, I really like the way you describe OL as a whole new way of thinking. It certainly is. You find that you wind up storing things you'd never haul back and forth.

stopher, I love the way you and your husband went through the lists. It reminds me of the couple who always packed individually and then opened their suitcases before they left home and put all of the things they would store in a common pile. The Locker got the the bulk of the items and now instead of two suitcases, they each carry on. And the shampoo comment really hit home. I tested the concept with my family for a few years and our four daughters LOVED having their own shampoo in the proper sized container. They never said anything like, "Dad, this makes me feel more at home," but it did.

What is the "MouseSavers promotion"?

That's what I just did!

We went on a adults only trip and brought down alot of stuff that we would use only when the kids go. It's hard enough to get through an airport with kids, but to have an extra bag to lug around, no thanks. We got the locker about 3/4's full and then I started taking things out of my suitcase to keep in the locker.

I have to say that John and Brian have been great with everything, and I may have to add-on a locker on my next trip.

Also don't forget to decorate your locker, we brought down some stickers for the locker to give it a personal touch.

The Mousesavers promotion expired a couple of days ago. It was only available for about three days anyway. It was $50 off the price of the locker, bringing the locker down to $25.

I'm guessing you're talking about a smaller bottle of bleach, not a one gallon (or larger) size. Maybe you can keep the bleach bottle securely sealed in a 1- or 2-gallon zip lock bag. That would give it a little extra security.

Small bottle of bleach, bagged. :thumbsup2

Let me just explain something about my kids. They're 19, 17, and 15. :teeth: So, it's not really a matter of dealing with them at the airports, as well as stuff; they're more of a help (usually ;)) than a hindrance at this point. But having them with us, I can stuff some things in their suitcases too. We need...or, it would be nice to have...more things when they're with us tho. They like downtime in the hotel  more than when DH and I go alone. On our last trip together, we'd go to the parks and they were supposed to meet us there, but nnnoooo, they decided to just hang out in the room. :confused3 I was thinking we'd keep some board games in our locker for those rainy nights, or just hanging out in our villa. :thumbsup2 That's one of those things that we never seem to have the time for at home. I get excited as it is if we're all together for a meal. (Thank God for holidays!)

Anyway, John...you are a good salesman...reading your posts is one reason I took the plunge (DH is still a bit skeptical, and I keep saying "They are SO nice!", but I think HE'S looking for "But what will this mean to ME, Dave ___________?" ) But at this point, I just don't know when we (with the kids) might make that trip, so I'd hate to jump the gun now and not have it be for a while. And I just don't have the TIME to get things together now, especially since it's the very thing that I want to get a locker for...to not go through this frantic packing thing. I already have MY stuff packed for our upcoming trip, all sorts of nicely neurotically organized. :) If DH and I take another trip without kids tho, I'd probably pack my locker on that trip, because I plan to start collecting things NOW to put in it.

John, DH and I are commando Disney tourers, and rarely are back at the hotel, despite my pre-trip determination to do more relaxing. Last year we drove down, from RI; left at 9:30 AM on a Saturday, arrived 7 AM on Sunday, checked in to OKW, showered and were at the EPCOT at 8:45 AM. :thumbsup2 That's what's so fun about not going with the kids...they can't keep up with us! But if I see the van at our resort, I'll come over and say hello. And if I see it on the road, I'll hang out the car window and . And if I don't see the van at all, I'll just keep my eye out for purple lockers being moved around the resort. :)

yxe dad...oooooo...decorate the box...sounds like fun! I suggested a "name" for it to my 17 yr old DD, and she told me that I was just SO wierd. :confused3

My locker's name is "Rita & Doug's Love Locker" (as suggested by John). And I think someone else's is named "Purple Tub of Love". You can name your locker anything you want (with DD's approval of course).

I hope to see you on the Owner's Locker boards.

And here's a link to photos of what other people (including Rita) have done with their Locker:

We had no idea that people would start decorating their Lockers and it's really fun to see them come back with additions to the outside as well as the inside!

Oh dear. I'm getting way more excited than normal about this purple box...decorating it, packing it, naming it, MEETING it! :rotfl:

Are you SURE you're not me in disguise? :lmao: I just joined (about an hour ago), am going on a Mom and Dad Only Trip in May, have three kids (ages 16, 19 and 21) and I also live in Rhode Island. LOL

We don't have a Family Trip scheduled and probably won't be able to pull it off until late 2009 at the earliest so I also worried about committing to OL. Now I am kicking myself that I did not join in 2007 when we went to WDW twice, in February and October. :rolleyes1 That would have been *very* helpful.

Because it will just be the two of us on this trip I am taking advantage of the reduced number of required suitcases and I am filling a second suitcase with all the items I want in my OL. That means MUCH less worrying about packing when the three kids come along. And this way the items will be at the resort when the five of us arrive.

One other thing, the second (now empty) suitcase will fit right inside the other suitcase for the return trip.

Mary <who has her OL list on Excel already, LOL!>

Insert Twilight Zone music here!

I'm TRYING to clean my house, but every time I think of something I'd like to put in my purple locker, I go and get it and toss it onto the couch. (I was tossing it into a tote bag, but it got too full).

Have you seen this forum on Owner's Locker?

It's got other people's lists! :teeth: I feel like a voyeur...and it's fun.

Sure have! The lists are great! I printed out all the posts with packing items mentioned on Tuesday and then compiled all the items on a pad of paper while I waited for my daughter at dance that night, then input them all in excel :surfweb: where they are now happily (and OCD-ly) in alphabetical order by area (kitchen, clothes, household and HBA).
