Thanks so much for sharing the update with us Kevin. While the punishment does not seem severe enough, compared with the initial 'doing nothing' I am glad to see that there is some penalty being paid. I am glad this brings some closure to you and your family.

I know the end result is not what you wanted to see, but as you said - he will violate at some point and he will see continued punishment.

His license will be suspended for 1 year, he will have two years of probation, he will have enforced drug and alcohol counseling and he will have community service.

He will also have a felony conviction on his record and if he breaks his probation (and he will), he will go to jail.

I do hope that the councelling and community service will allow this man to turn his life around, to appreciate the value of family and community and perhaps he can find his place in that community. I know that the odds are not good but perhaps the system can work in this case. The first step is for him to accept responsibility for his actions and by pleading guilty perhaps he has started to actually accept that he was wrong and can now move on to try to what's right from now on. Perhaps.
