His license will be suspended for 1 year, he will have two years of probation, he will have enforced drug and alcohol counseling and he will have community service.
He will also have a felony conviction on his record and if he breaks his probation (and he will), he will go to jail.

I hope you find some peace with this resolution.
Although many of us feel it was not a harsher enough sentencing, perhaps the drug and alcohol counseling along with the community service will enable him to change his life.
