We are planning a trip to the Mouse House in the beginning of January 09 and are looking at staying at BWV. The trip will include myself, my wife, son 23, son 7 and it sounds like the BW would keep us all entertained while not in the parks.

My question is when would be the best time to start looking to rent points for the preferred option? I see it should either be 7 or 11 months, but I do not see anything on the charts for 2009 and the points could go up and if I "only" buy 104 points and it goes up to 110 later what are my options?

Thanks for any help.

If you are gooing to rent a reservation from a member they will have the 09 points requirements. Getting in at that time should not be difficult as long as you are not looking for standard view or boardwalk view. The regular prefferred views generally go last. That being said its always better to plan sooner than later and your only down fall to this is that you would have to find a BWV owner to rent for you now. Once you hit the 7 month mark you can get points from anyone.

and point requirements don't vary by year, that is the beauty of disney vacation club ownership. 104 pts this year will be 104 pts 10 years from now. The only changes that can occur are for holiday variances and those changes are rare especially in Jan.
Good Luck and you'll love DVC.

The 2009 Point Charts are available - click on the DVC Point Charts link at the upper right of the page.

Reservations for January, 2009 have been available for over a month now - so there is no harm in making your request immediately.

The points needed for 2009 will not change, but points for future years could be changed, so it doesn't hurt to check the point charts each year. In reality, points have only been changed once - for OKW in 1996 - but any resort could be changed by reallocating the point needs. If points for some nights are raised - points for other nights MUST be lowered.

I'd go ahead and post your request on the Rent/Trade Board. Be sure to read the "POSTING RULES:REQUIRED READING" threads before posting.

Good luck with your rental! :)

When you say beginning of January, do you mean the first two weeks? You need to get that reservation pretty soon because those two weeks are very busy with New Years and the marathon. You will be out of luck for a boardwalk view or standard view and will probably only get preferred view.

Deb,

I was thinking around January 4th or so, I am trying to miss the new years crowd.

I understand what the boardwalk view would be but what is the difference between the preferred and standard?

Standard view requires fewer points and has a view of the parking lot and main entrance to the resort - about 20% of the rooms. The rest are preferred. They have separated the BW view rooms from the rest of preferred as a bookable view - again, about 20% of the rooms. That leaves all the rest of the preferred - mostly Luna Park pool, leisure pool and other water ways. Also the Village Green area.

Marathon weekend starts the 8th.

You won't actually be buying points. We refer to it as 'renting points', but that's kind of a misnomer. You'll be renting a reservation from a DVC member.

As you've probably already seen, the rental process goes something like this: You figure out which resort you want to stay in, the size of villa you want to reserve, and the dates you want to stay. That information will determine the amount of points that the owner will need to use to make the reservation for you. The owner sets a price per point, you come to an agreement, and the owner calls to make a reservation.

So, the number of points needed to make the reservation just determines what you'll need to pay the owner. You, yourself, don't actually do anything with the points.

Here's a comparison of the point charts for 1995 and 1996 as shown by DVC-Chart. You can download the full program, free, by following the link in my signature below.

Its amazing how you always seam to be able to dig this old stuff up. (Take it as a compliment)

Thanks but there was nothing to it. The program will display the point chart for any DVC resort for any year from 1991 through 2057. I just ran the program twice, displaying the OKW 1995 chart in one window, the 1996 chart in another window, overlapped them, did a screen capture, trimmed the image so only the actual 'charts' were showing, and there it is.

The full program of course also displays calendars color coded to the charts. So if you want to know what season April 15th is in 2010, a couple of clicks and you've got it. There's other stuff too.
