I have been reading on the boards that FW hs new green golf carts. We have reserved a golf cart for our October stay and I was wondering if there was a way that I could ensure getting a new one. Do you need to be at the bike barn at a certain time or should I call and see if they can put it on my reservation??

Also, with so many golf carts, how do you know which one is yours when they are parked in community areas? Should I bring something to decorate it with? Any suggestions would be great!!

We just got lucky and got a green cart. I intened to ask for one for our next visit. Please be assured that the white carts are very serviceable and there is really nothing wrong with them. The green carts are just newer and roomier.

The carts are individualy marked with numbers ie..067, 072 etc. We always put a small windsock on ours so it is easier to identify. However you don't need this if you just take quick glances at the numbers on the carts.

Camping Griswalds, I noticed you mentioned that the new golf carts are roomier than the old. Is it a big difference? I currently have a 6 seater reserved and there will be 4 adults and one child-8 riding in it. Do you think we could all fit in a 4 seater? A 4 seater would be cheaper for sure. Thanks!

Juls -- the new green golf carts didn't seem that much more roomier to me. You could probably fit 4 adults and a small eight year old, but it would be pretty tight.

I think the green carts are roomier from steering wheel to seat. My DH thinks so also. Just to let you know we used a four seater before with four adults (and DH is a broad 6'3" guy) and a 6yo and 2yo with a stroller. We were cramped a little, but heh you're on vacation...snuggle!! I have seen people squeeze three in front and three in back lots of times. We did two adults in front, two adults in back and the kids sat on the adults lap. Whoever was left over carried the backpack and stroller on their lap. It worked fine and dandy for us. Matter of fact we're going with these same people in Jan except now we're all a little wider and the kids are 11 and 7. We're only getting one cart and don't feel we need anything bigger!!!!!

You're right ... I forgot ... I had some trouble reaching the gas pedal with the green cart ... I couldn't sit with my back against the seat back ... didn't have this problem with the white carts. I was thinking roomier side to side.

whats with the golf carts (first time for us at FW Cabin). Should I rent one?? We're going 10-6 to 1013 with 14, 10 and 4 year olds

The golf carts are a fun way to get around the campground. There are parking lots at the trading posts, the pools, the two main busstops, petting zoo, Pioneer Hall, and playgrounds.

That being said, they are not a necessity. The buses will take you around the campground too. However, if your budget can absorb the hit (@$43 a day) they are a definate plus! A golf cart makes it very easy to be spontaneous--hop on and catch the fireworks from the beach, dash to the trading post for bread, ride around at night to see the camper decorations, etc. It will also probably be a favorite ride for your kids and it is a great way to put the little one to sleep!

Maybe we'll see you there--our dates are similar!!

thanks for the info.........just read your note to husband and oldest.........he says wait till we get there, and we'll rent when we feel like it. any problems with getting one w/o reservations??

I would reserve one esp. if you are going during a holiday period. When we were there the last week of August they weren't available to rent unless you had a reservation.

BTW reservations can be made one year in advance.

I am a believer in the low tech method. Bikes are just as much fun as the carts at FW.

IMHO a cart is nice for a day that you are hanging around FW, but it is not a financially sound decision for a day that you will be at the parks and it will just sit waiting for you.

We took a day off from the parks, got a cart and rode around... They wouldn't let us take Mabel, tho :(

We took a second ride that evening, and being December, the night time ride was really neat - seeing the Christmas lights and decorations at the camp sites - some were quite elaborate. :bounce: :Pinkbounc

DW still says that was the most fun day of our stay, being her first time to drive a cart.
