More Booze in the MK!

There are some pretty harsh comments in this thread bordering on personal attacks directed at those who disagree with Disney's decision. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and Disney's decision to sell booze in MK doesn't invalidate those opinions or make them old fashioned, nor do most people who disagree with this move think alcohol is evil in and of itself. There's a time and a place for all things, and those of us who disagree with more alcohol in the MK just don't think it is the place for it.

This exactly. Another thread referred to those "opposed" as "pearl-clutchers". It has nothing to do with that at all. I know in our home, my husband loves beer, I love my Mike's. But you just nailed it - there's a time and a place, and a family theme park that is primarily designed for children, is not the place.

The fantastic thing is anyone who doesn't want to drink at MK, doesn't have to drink. No one will force you to order a beer at dinner. You get to make that decision for yourself, because you're an adult. Each adult gets to decide what they want to enjoy at these particular MK restaurants. Why can't the other adults be trusted to make that choice for themselves?

Hey mshanson, I have to respectfully disagree here. Believe me I'm big on Disney history, tradition, and integrity of the in park experience. There are a number of things over the past few years that has changed at WDW that bothers me, but this isn't one of them. Yes MK is a family theme park, but that should mean for all family members. For many adults, myself included, going to a sit down restaurant on vacation includes having a beer or glass of wine to go with my meal. The addition of new table service restaurants at MK (TS & BOG), with menus that would have beer/wine parings associated with them anywhere else in the US, this addition makes sense. If I, as the adult paying for the family vacation, want to have a beer or glass of wine while spending quite a chunk of change on a meal, I should be able to have the option to do so. Just my opinion though, obviously I've enjoyed MK all of these years w/o alcohol, so at the end of the day I'm fine either way. I would think Disney will see how this plays out and will let the demand or lack thereof determine if this works.

So you never drink at all in front of your children? If so great for you but it actually helps make alcohol less appealing for drunkenness when kids see it responsibly enjoyed by adults. Again this is just wine and beer at dinner not kiosks and not hard liquor. Cry slippery slope all you want but nobody except those in charge has a clue what Disney will do tomorrow left alone 5, 10, 20 years from now so why get bent out of shape over something that may never happen.

I agree with this. I also have to disagree that MK was created for children. How much of what comprises MK is totally beyond the understanding of a child? In addition, Walt was not beyond including what became unacceptable stereotypes and adult humor in his films and attractions. Watch some of the earlier cartoon shorts. Or how about the Pirates chasing the women in the original POTC.

To each their own but by adding the possibility of drinks with dinner beyond creating revenue might help with attendance as well. Not significantly but it won't hurt.

And another thing... does anyone else find it odd that MK has 2 dinning locations with "tavern" in their name, but no alcohol at them? I wonder how many times each day CM's at those locations have to turn away bewildered newbies that don't know any better. I just find that funny. The Leaky Cauldron @Wizarding World has their own adult drinks (Wizard's Brew, Dragon Scale, & Fire Whisky), that's pretty neat.

I'm pretty sure when Bog was announced it would serve alcohol many decried the slippery slope that would lead to other restaurants following suit...and those detractors were told "relax. It's just one restaurant. "

Well we've slipped down the slope. Anything is possible. Bars. Beer carts. The future is bright!

I've definitely seen way-too-drunk people at Epcot, including a few drink around the world bachelor/bachelorette parties. If that's what we were talking about here I'd be up in arms too. But we have two other parks as examples - studios and AK - where alcohol is served but is not the primary activity. I can't ever remember seeing unruly or obviously drunk people while waiting in line for ToT or the safari ride. I'm assuming the MK will be far more in line with those other parks rather than Epcot.

I have said, along with others here - it's not the TS restaurants that bother me, I have nothing against a beer or a wine with dinner. Plus, they'll be capping those drinks. It's the knowledge however, that realistically, this is only the beginning, and ultimately this will only lead to the kiosks, which yes, I'm very much against. And so while, I personally have no problem with a drink with dinner, if the only way to prevent the kiosks from happening is to not allow alcohol at MK restaurants, then so be it (side note, I totally just heard King Tritan's voice when I typed that, lol).

But, it's all a moot point since it's already done.

And we all know he turned out kinda on the wrong side of the argument, so... ;) (Kidding! Really just kidding. I actually did hear his voice as I was reading your post, and then laughed out loud as I got to your parenthetical note and saw that I wasn't alone! :rotfl:)

I also have to disagree that MK was created for children.

"What this country really needs is an amusement park that families can take their children to.”

"We believed in our idea - a family park where where parents and children could have fun together"

Yeah, it was created for children. It was created for adults to be able to enjoy as well, yes. But it was primarily designed and created for children. It's pretty absurd to try and argue otherwise.

lol. I have that happen a lot... especially with those three unmentionable words ;)

That's equally as disgusting. So is smokers smell. Even people with too much cologne. It's all nasty.

BTW, your post kind of makes it sound like you are saying people who drink have BO and don't shower. :crazy2:
If that's what you got out of it, I think the post went over your head.

I wouldn't mind disney rolling out a few beer carts for when lines are really long. I know some of you waited in line for Darths Mall during Star Wars weekends, you know after waiting 2 hours you were wishing there was a beer cart there throughout the line lol.

Serving beer and wine at a couple more locations inside Magic Kingdom is nowhere near anything for anyone to be upset about. Now if there was beer carts throughout lines, shot girls walking around, and a Hooters restaurant put on Main Street...then I can see an uproar.

However a beer or wine with dinner is not getting anyone plastered and stumbling around MK. And it's certainly not tarnishing any child's viewpoint of MK

You're taking a few liberties in translation here. He said where " parents and children could have fun together". His impetus behind this was that he was bored, as an adult, sitting on a bench watching his children have fun and he could not participate. Taking liberties with translation DL was created more for adults than children.

Basically because we're smart enough to realize that this is just the beginning and that it will end up with kiosks all over and people walking all over with drinks in their hand.

If they were going to keep it at a drink at dinner only, great. But it won't stay that way.

You are right that could be horrible.....they might spill some of it and those drink are too expensive to waste a single drop!

and so what if it does? I highly doubt it would be that big of a problem if people were walking around drinking a beer.
