More bedbugs---All Star Sports

Great! Post both building and room numbers for others to use!

Thanks!

There are at least 3 other bed bug threads going on right now. Plenty of info there. Also there are many posts about bedbugs every two weeks on the resort board. Plenty of info there as well. All threads should be forwarded to the Disney legal team. They should know how often this is discussed on the DISBoards. Maybe then it will be dealt with effectively.

May I ask what else you expect Disney to do?

Traveler A brings in 4 bedbugs.
Traveler B and C do not notice since the number of bugs is so small - no visible signs of an infestation yet
Traveler D notices bedbugs due to bites - Disney closes room, relocates family and clean clothes

Bedbugs are not dangerous (not that I want to sleep with any) and there is no way that Disney can insure every room free of bedbugs.

I think they handle the problem pretty well.

Yikes. I'm staying at ASSP next month.

I'm definitely going to give the bed a check when we enter the room.

Has anyone used or seen a bed bug spray?? I have seen it in Home Depot. Not sure if it is something you can bring with you and spray your room down with. I am all aghghghhg just from reading this!!

So sorry to hear about this latest encounter. I've been extremely vocal on another thread about bed bugs at POR. I'm advocating contacting Disney via this link: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/contact/contactUs?id=ContactUsPage to voice our collective concerns on this issue. In fact, it's been 5 days since I sent an email to Disney regarding the bed bug problem at POR and I have yet to receive a reply. I stated that I'm concerned about my upcoming visit.

And, I'm also advocating a dedicated "Bed Bug Report" thread to list encounters at each resort by building and room so that we, as DIS'ers, can check activity at our favorite resorts prior to our visits!

Do you think a dedicated thread would be useful? If so, let me know. If I get enough responses from concerned DIS'ers, I'd be willing to work with the MODs talk about a sticky on this topic.

Thanks!!

Yes please! Great idea. :thumbsup2

I read on another post (MissCammie, I think) about taking a lint roller and swiping down the bed. Good idea, or not?

Yuck...these posts freak me out. Just reading them makes me itch! I sure hope they clean up this problem as it seems to be getting worse! I have never seen a bed bug and I would REALLY like to keep it that way.

You want to know what I honestly expect Disney to do? Come up with a real way of preventing and killing the bugs before it even becomes an issue. I'm sure they're having to close down a lot of rooms because of this (therefore, losing $$$), so it's really only a matter of time before they step up to the plate. But perhaps if people start coming together and complaining, it'll expedite the process.

I think that's a great idea :thumbsup2 (and by the way, I'm preparing an email as we speak)

DH and I just cme back from an 8 night stay at Sports. We were in Touchdown Building 7 room...7344 and there was no sign of bedbugs anywhere. Believe me...I stripped the beds as soon as DH opened the door. We both slept like babies all week...bug free.;) Thank goodness.

How is Disney supposed to prevent people from bringing them in? Short of making us all shower at check in, and not bringing any luggage in with us. And as other posters have pointed out, the main reason we are seeing a resurgence in bedbugs is the pesticides we are now allowed to use are just not that great at killing them. I don't think it has anything to do with Disney not wanting to deal with the problem. It is just a hard thing to control.

Having said that, you can bet that when we are at Sports next month I will be checking for the little buggers!

That's awesome! Great feeling eh? Good for you! :thumbsup2

Well, some genius (who I owe my life to ;) ) came up with a spray that makes mosquitoes leave you alone. So I imagine that there's somethingthat will do the same with bedbugs, even if it hasn't been created yet. Perhaps it could be sprayed in the room before each and every guest.

Disney has made strides far beyond their theme parks and movies, so I don't think it's unreasonable to think that they could put in the effort here too.

But maybe I'm the only one that thinks so

I'm sure they're NOT having to close down "a lot" of rooms. This is what, the fourth current report of bedbugs? Out of 27,000 rooms?

And, frankly, why is it DISNEY'S responsibility to come up with a real way of preventing and killing the bugs??? Disney didn't invent bedbugs, they didn't create them, they don't breed them, they're FAR from the only company affected by them - see the recent stories about bedbugs in college dorms. Wouldn't it make more sense for SCIENTISTS, specifically entomologists, to discover/create ways to prevent/kill bedbugs??????????

Why? Why would I want a company to proactively spray my hotel room on the one in 27,000 chance that there may be some annoying but harmless bugs in there that may leave some some small itchy welts on me?

See my response above. I do think it's unreasonable to expect a commercial business prevalent in the hospitality and entertainment industries to now ALSO be responsible for scientific research.

You are not. :thumbsup2

Not necessarily with creating potions, but for finding a way to eradicate the pests, like I do in my own house (ants, spiders, etc.)

The problem with guests taking sprays is that it is very possible a guest with severe asthma or an immune issue could check into that room (after the previous guest sprayed like crazy) and wind up in the ER with an life threatening reaction.

When the resort is notified and takes care of the issue they can avoid putting a special needs guest in the same room.

Bedbugs is a rotten problem and hope we never have to deal with it - but it is a possiblity at any resort these days. My friend works at a Westin where several rooms were shut down for weeks due to bedbugs.

I do appreciate knowing which Disney resorts are dealing with the issue and think the DISers posting joke threads are quite insensitive. It will not be so funny if it happens to them next trip. ;)

I'd rather have a bug bite (not that I want begbug to travel with me home) then be covered in chemicals.

Im so grossed out:scared1:

yikes. we are leaving in a few days staying at ASM. we are taking the magical express so the luggage will be delivered prior to us going into the room. We plan on going to a park as soon as we get there.. I hope we are OK. We actually have 2 rooms for 4 adutls.
=[

My husband always says that I have a problem called OCD...half jokingly of course. But I am a true worrier. My thought is...why can't the Mousekeepers check the mattresses between guests? I know it will take a bit longer, but they have to change the sheets anyways. Also...does Disney wash the bedspreads or just the sheets for guest rooms?

I said the same thing in another post. I agree.

They can and should absolutely do this!! They can't keep people from bringing them in but they can do everything possible to keep the next family from dealing with it. I have sent an email as well, we are going in one month.
