More bedbugs---All Star Sports

No buggies!!! Thank God! lol I will admit, I was paranoid the firt few nights (I was afraid to get under the covers) lol *silly* but it was fine.. very clean... I did check when I first arrived.. I didnt see anything.. this was the first time I stayed on the first floor too. I was afraid of "anything" crawling into our rooms (yuk) but nothing at all. It was a great.

just thought I would share.. hopefully ease some worries.

Without knowing how many vacations you take per year it sounds like your trip would have been more relaxed without all the bedbug mania! Information is power but sometimes bliss is what we need for a week.

very true! *knock on wood* I have never had any "bug" problems and I tend to visit once a year. I never really thought about it until reading about the bedbug mania here on the Dis. Otherwise I wouldnt of thought twice. I did have a great trip...but the thought of bedbugs never seemed to leave my mind. Im sure I will always check from now on no matter where i visit.

I'd rather have a bug bite (not that I want begbug to travel with me home) then be covered in chemicals.

Wow...I hope you never end up with bedbugs as maybe others are overreacting but if happens to you you'll probably be singing a different tune :rolleyes1

The problem is that if there are bedbugs, you don't just get a bed bug bite. One single night in a bed with bedbugs can give you hundreds of bites. I learned this from first-hand experience at AKL.

I'll be at Sports on Saturday And when I come back I'll give a report! :) We are at a disney hotel at least once a month and have been for the past 7 years or so, and have never been in a bed buggy room yet -

Bed bugs reports have increased by 2000% in just the last few years. I know NYC hotels are having problems with this. I don’t think there is anything that you can really do short of the staff checking each room on a regular basis so that large infestations dont occur and you checking before you settle into the room.

After staying in a hotel wash all clothing and dry on high heat before bringing it home and put clothing in plastic bags so they dont become re-contaminated. Also check luggage before bringing into the house and if possible store in the car (during the summer) because temps in the car during the summer months rise high enough to kill them. Doing this will reduce the chances of bringing them home with you, if you encounter a problem. I would also check, wash and dry clothing that is being worn as they can travel on clothing also.

You can theoretically pick up bed bugs from them traveling suitcase to suitcase on planes or directly from a person sitting next to you. This is NOT just a Disney problem so you should be careful anywhere you stay even at a family member’s home (even if they live on park ave!)
Also, for those who want to spray every where……….dont. Most sprays will do nothing but make them hide for a little while, not kill them. You need a chemical designed for them and you cannot buy them in stores. They are a few hundred dollars (online, if you do decide to do it yourself at your home) and should really be used by an exterminator who generally has to apply it about 3 times over the course of a few months to really eliminate the problem. So the best thing you can do is pull off those sheets, remove the head boards and picture frames, look at baseboards, in draws, and visually check for them.

Hi,

We just stayed at the Polynesian Resort in WDW, Orlando. We were there from 9/12/08 to 9/21/08. I was so concerned about Bedbugs, I bought Residex from my local exterminating company. We sprayed it in our two rooms, beds, baseboards, headboards, etc. We didnt see one bug at all. No one received bites at all. NOt sure if if is the stull we sprayed or if the room was clean. Anyway, we were good.

We just came back from POP on 9/1/08. I'm glad I didn't see this thread before I left. I would have been paranoid the whole time. Thankfully we had no bug problems or any other problems at all. We loved POP.

We were at Sports from 9/17-21. I checked the beds out of habit before getting anything out in the room. Nothing. No problems the entire time we were there. Hopefully we'll continue our bug free streak in Dec at AKL!

99.9% of People don't! Glad you didn't see these posts too!

Does anybody on this thread actually think Disney doesn't have a procedure in place to check for bedbugs regularly? According to at least one post in one of the other current threads, Housekeeping checks EACH room for bedbugs on a biweekly schedule.

Um, I could barely get Housekeeping to empty our trash let alone trust them to check for bedbugs on a bi-weekly schedule. Are you serious? Do you actually believe this?

On the tiny wage they pay Housekeepers and the amount of rooms they are responsible for and the unreal amount of turnover per room per resort-you truly believe they actually, really, truly without lying about it?

New Guest Mousekeeping Check List
Empty Trash (might as well, I never do it while people are actually staying in the room)-check
Clean tub by wiping it down real quick-check
Clean toilet but don't be concerned about the underside just swish and flush-check
Change sheets- check
Leave the blanket and bedspread alone-how dirty could it be?-check
Vacuum really quickly-check
Check for bedbugs-Ha ha ha oops, I mean- check

Yeah right.

Please don't do that! You shouldn't be spraying any chemicals in the rooms. You have no idea what the housekeeper uses. They may not mix well together. Also, what about the people who use the room after you? They may have someone with allergies in their family. At least if Disney does the spraying they would have that info in their system, and know not to give a family with allergies a room with a strong chemical smell. Not to mention if you don't kill the bugs you are most likely just breeding in a resistance to the spray you used.

The thought of people bringing in all sorts of stuff designed to kill bugs, with no proper training on how, where, or when to use it gives me the creeps way more than a few bed bugs.

I was at Movies from 9/13 - 9/20 (had 2 connecting rooms) the rooms were super clean. It actually had a faint bleach smell when we first arrived. I swear I had no problems. My biggest complaint was the buses. not Mousekeeping.

That is soooo beyond nasty. After that 20/20 report all those years ago, I thought this became standard practice.

What about the blankets?

we were at ASMU Spet8-9 and WL Sept.10-19 and first thing I did was check everywhere for bugs and both were extremly clean.....nice to see.... We stayed at Quality Inn at the Buffalo Airport and found bugs in first room and complained and the girl behind desk very helpful and gave us another room and we both inspected the new room...

Wow!That is awful!Did you inspect your room and still get bites? Also, how did you insure that you did not bring them home with you? Thanks.:)
