I recieved a frantic call from my sister this morning, they're currently at the world, with 2 other couples, enjoying free dining. They have rooms at Sports. They requested adjoining rooms, so all 3 couples would be near each other. At check in on Sat, my sister and her family were placed on the 3rd floor, but the other 2 couples were on the main floor. At first they weren't happy, but it is quite booked so they took what they could get.

Well, needless to say that by yesterday morning, both other couples were completely covered in bug bites. Disney has taken all their stuff to clean, and were at first just offered new rooms. They didn't accept that, as they were worried they'd be all through the hotel, so today, Disney is moving them all to SSR.

I am hoping their stuff gets cleaned well enough that they won't be taking any critters along to SSR.

These reports are just happening far too often, it's starting to scare me.

I read an article about this happening in lots of places, the article particularly mentioned dorm rooms with all the kids going back to college, etc. It said that it has nothing to do with cleanliness - that the little creatures are attracted to blood, I guess like mosquitos, but short of finding and cleaning them out, it didn't mention anything to prevent them like they do for the mosquitos. So, I guess you just have to watch out and be careful. Ick!!!!

I was going to say, too, that bedbugs don't just happen at DisneyWorld. The insects are becoming resistant to the methods developed to kill them, so it's a long process to get rid of them. Apparently, it's not so tough to be a bug any more :lmao:

It is not just Disney.I stay in Manhattan in 4 star hotels ,and they have problems currently with bedbugs too.

yeah, unfortunately it is happening everywhere. The little critters love to stowaway in luggage & on pajamas & such...they'll travel with you & set up new housekeeping wherever you go.

We were spoiled by no bed bugs in the USA for many years when we were using the hard-core (and extremely nasty) chemicals like DDT...the rest of the world still had them. Once we quit using DDT bed bugs have had a "field day" reinfecting the USA.

Remember the old saying our parents used to say "Good night, sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite?" For many years it was just a harmless saying that didn't even make much since...there were no bed bugs! Well, guess we need to start using it again;)

I wonder if there have been any large tourist groups lately that have brought them into these hotels? Seems to be a big infestation all at once at a few hotels. YUCK!

Can you please get a building and room number? This is important as I read a recent report from the Contemporary Resort and people were placed back in a room that had been vacated because of bed bugs the very next day. Thank you, Jeanne LB My daughter will be there Saturday, sept. 13.

i remember a few years ago when i first heard of these issues at WDW seeing a thread that had info about signs to look for. i will see if i can find it, but until then, i recall this much....

before you truck your luggage and family into the room...enter the room and take the blankets and fitted sheets off the bed. inspect the seams of the mattress. look for brown/black small spots/stains along the outside seams and along the stitching. that would be bedbug excrement.

also check the back of the headboard. if attached to the wall, turn the light on (or bring a small flashlight with you) and see if you can see any actual bugs behind there.

lastly, pull the dressers open. check in there (including along the seams) they like to hang there when not feeding.

ok, found the link to the info about them...

I have friends staying at ASSp right now. Please, can you give me the info on the building where this happened. The last thing she needs, being 7 months pregnant, is to be exposed to the bugs or the fumes from the treatment process. TIA

There are at least 3 other bed bug threads going on right now. Plenty of info there. Also there are many posts about bedbugs every two weeks on the resort board. Plenty of info there as well. All threads should be forwarded to the Disney legal team. They should know how often this is discussed on the DISBoards. Maybe then it will be dealt with effectively.

Good info. Also, take some tape with you and put it on the backside of the headboard and on the floor surrounding the bed - sticky side up. If there are bed bugs, some will end up stuck to the tape. Of course it is not instant proof like above and works best at night. Bedbugs are not active during the day.

Just returned from CSR & AKL (8/31-9/7), at CSR in the parking lot were three eighteen wheeler Sealy Mattress trucks. I check our bed at CSR to make sure, the mattress was brand new, the one at AKL was new to (room had just been refurbished). Remember to check!!!! :thumbsup2

CSR is converting from double beds to queen beds so that would be why you saw this at CSR.

I've been reading all the threads lately and am starting to get really freaked out!! My husband is so laid back about everything, he is going to think I'm nuts when I forbid him, the kids, and the luggage in the room until I've stripped all the beds and searched the room with a flashlight!

So sorry to hear about this latest encounter. I've been extremely vocal on another thread about bed bugs at POR. I'm advocating contacting Disney via this link: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/contact/contactUs?id=ContactUsPage to voice our collective concerns on this issue. In fact, it's been 5 days since I sent an email to Disney regarding the bed bug problem at POR and I have yet to receive a reply. I stated that I'm concerned about my upcoming visit.

And, I'm also advocating a dedicated "Bed Bug Report" thread to list encounters at each resort by building and room so that we, as DIS'ers, can check activity at our favorite resorts prior to our visits!

Do you think a dedicated thread would be useful? If so, let me know. If I get enough responses from concerned DIS'ers, I'd be willing to work with the MODs talk about a sticky on this topic.

Thanks!!

SHAZAM! ....

I too have seen more and more posts about incidents at Disney... yes, this isn't a Disney specific issue, but this is a Disney board so the post revolve around disney resorts.......

Why can't they come up with a pesticide that can get rid of these things... My friends husband is an entomologist and he said since the ban on DDT they are very hard to get rid of.... :headache: ......

I am getting to the point where I don't really want to travel... I have many phobias  and bedbugs :sad2: are one of them.... I just fear bringing them home, and the hassles to ensue if they are.

Here is another thought... this is something that you now need to worry about if buying a house. Just because the previous owners move the furniture out when they leave doesn't mean they take all the bed bugs with them if the house has them!!!!! ;) Nice thought ... huh.....

I PM the OP asking for the room numbers and said that as soon as (he or she) could get them they would let me know. I also stated that the room numbers should also be posted for other dissers. I am very worried to say the least.
