MOOvin' Along - Goog Times, Goog Friends . . . Part 3

Sandy, I love beef! Not with noodles though, I prefer it with dumplings and potatoes and celery and onions and carrots. And lots of gravy. Unfortunatly, nobody else does, so i havent had any in a couple of years.
That and chili. My DH are DD are on a health kick, so its chicken and fish all the time......... beurk!!!

George will be be fine in his natural habitat. He tries to climb out of his plastic box.

At the rate things are going, it might be 5 years anyway...........

It was really cold this morning. I walked the kids in and the secretary told me they had to go outside ,the computer says it is only -18 they can come in if it is -20 . Well the news shows and my outside thermometer said -22 let me in . Then the Vice principal came out and told them to let the kids come in

-18??? -20???!!!!! Good Lord I wouldn't survive a winter in Canada.

I am also procrastinating on the laundry. But I did make a pot of chili tonight. I have to add macaroni to DH's to turn it into goulash though.

I have to inquire into this word: goulash. Is it an actual word or did you make it up? What does it mean?

DD and I finally wrapped up her latest school project tonight (a 3-D likeness of our house, detailing all windows, doors and exterior building details. Oy.)

Sounds to me like the teacher didn't want to have to deal with that project in her classroom so she sent it home for the parents to deal with it. Smart teacher.

Did everyone have a goog long weekend? Today I went out to lunch and then to see 27 Dresses. I wanted to see Juno but some people had seen it. But 27 Dresses was really goog. (If you like chick flicks) There were parts I was cracking up.

Then, I went home for dinner and my little sister accidentally elbowed me in the forehead and I have a big old bump that is turning all colors of black and blue. And it hurt really bad. Should look lovely tomorrow.

I am feeling very 'empty nester' recently. DD has practically moved in with her BF. Except on days when I stay home, just to annoy me......... like today and on my mental health day. Every othe day when I work she is gone......

I might make a beef stew this weekend just for the heck of it.
Somebody has to keep Bisquick in business.

Oh wait, that would involve actually going shopping........

I need additional clarification. I still don't think I understand. SO it's beef stew that you put on top of noodles? Please forgive me but you must keep in mind that I have never in my 22 year life eaten beef or pork, so I am not familiar with things like beef stew.

Beef Stew: the short verision: (mine)

cubed beef (lean)
brown in oil in pressure cooker
take it out of pot, put in the burn protector in bottom of pot
piut back in beef, add chopped onions, carrots, beans, celery, potatoes, oh and the package of McCormick Stew Seasoning (noh and some water, but use watever veggie juice first instead of water)
put on lid and cook for 20 mins or so
add bisquick dumplings
cook for 10 or mins without lid, another 10 ior so with lid.
enjoy a fabulous dinner!!!!

OK, I am hungry now!

1. It was actually less torturous than it sounds. For real. DS had to do the same project last year when he was in first grade. Natasha is quite proud of the outcome, and the finished projects will all be displayed in the school's lobby. The first graders get quite a hoot outta that.

2. By "my little sister", do you actually mean a certain nurse we all know? Cuz I have heard stories about rough-housing and I have known a pillow fight to get out of hand on occasion. Was this another episode of "I can knock you over with my pinky" gone awry? You can tell us, LilL.....

My DD is cooking for he BF almost daily now, but I dont think that is in her repertoire either, LOL

1. Heh. Natasha said that one of her classmates is doing his house in wood with working doors and shutters (it's supposed to be done using cardboard boxes and paint). To me, that smacks of a parent who is doing all the work so that his/her child can have the best finished product. But isn't the point to have the CHILD do the project with ASSISTANCE from the parents? Ugh. I hate when parents do that...

2. Hmm.....sounds like maybe you two need a time out (again). No visits to Mamacantfindya for you until you can learn to play nicely together.

Well, in our house, goulash is chili with elbow macaroni in it. That's basically how my mom made it.

American Goulash is a casserole or hot dish that is characteristic of American school hot lunch programs of the 20th century. As a descendant, of sorts, of Hungarian goulash, the only real connection seems to be the name, and the inclusion of beef and tomatoes.

Also known as American schoolash and American Chop Suey, American goulash exists in a number of variant recipes. The essentials are elbow macaroni, ground beef or hamburger, and tomatoes in some form, whether canned whole, as tomato sauce, tomato soup, and/or tomato paste. I was supposed to see 27 Dresses with my little sister this weekend but she was sick, so we're going to try to see it next weekend. I was supposed to see Juno last weekend with a friend, but she ended up going with her daughter. I'll probably just wait for that one to come out on video.

HUNGARIAN GOULASH
1 lb. beef, cut in sm. cubes
2 med. onions, minced
1/4 tsp. dry mustard
1 1/4 tsp. paprika
1 tbsp. brown sugar
1 1/4 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
3/4 tsp. cider vinegar
6 tbsp. ketchup
1 1/2 c. water
1 (6 oz.) pkg. noodles (egg)
Brown meat on all sides. Add onions. Combine mustard, paprika, brown sugar, salt. Combine Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, ketchup. Add to mustard mix. Add to meat. Add 1 cup water. Stir; cover. Cook over low heat 2 1/2 hours or until meat is tender. Blend flour with remaining 1/2 cup water. Add to meat. Stir until thickened. Serve over cooked noodles.


Sorry, Moo, I love you, but Ghoulash is NOT Chili with macaroni!

But I've been a vegetarian for 6 years now and I've never eaten red meat my entire life. That's just how I was raised. So I really don't think that outing is going to go well. I'll look at it with you if that does anything for you. Or maybe you can try my vegetarian chili.

I wouldn't know about Hungarian ghoulash because I've never had it before

Hence my qualification and the post to describe what most Americans consider goulash!!! I think it is one of those things that varies a lot in how people make it. Kind of like stew. Mine is similar to yours but I can't stand my friend's stew because it is made with canned potatoes and peas in it. Yuck!
