Here's a little sumptin' if CBM has left for the day or the kids are sleeping, or if you are looking for something to read. Most is true, I might have embellished a few times.
I'll call it: Utter Chaos. By monymony3471
Sunday early evening.
The sky is looking a bit to concerning. I have a fussy baby in my arms and I keep looking over my shoulder at the dark bluish clouds in the distance. I have a load of clothes in the wash cause the kids have school tomorrow and I remember one of them said, they didn't have any clean T-shirts or socks left.
The baby, she's had a fever since Saturday and I know if I can get her through to Monday she has a well visit apt and if there is anything wrong with her, they'll let us know then. I'm tired of taking her there for a fever and they find nothing wrong with her, besides, give her some tylenol and she's a happy camper.
SIRENS. LOUD.
CLOUDS. CRAZY BLUISH GREEN.
AND YOU CAN SEE THEM ROLLING.
QUICK GET IN THE BASEMENT! EVERYBODY!
We we run down the stairs and turn on the TV and the Justin, the cute new weatherman in all his spunk and vigor is going on about the crazy storm that Doppler is showing to be tornadic.
This scares us. Tim runs upstairs to get some things, or he really wants to see whats coming.
He comes back down and just gives me that look, not that look, the other look, the one that tells me something bad is about to happen.
He said he saw some nut job, I mean little old lady, cutting her grass and he's going to tell her to get in her house.
As he does this a tree branch falls in front of him.
Then we lose power and phone and Justin.
My kids and I grab all the pillows and blankets that we use for the day care and arrange them in a makeshift bunker cause we are smart like that. Now I start to think about that emergency box I've been meaning to put together for the last 10 years.
I'm ordering Tim to run and get a pacifier, and a bottle and the formula, and try to find a flashlight and batteries, and some bottled water, and food, and band-aids, and coffee, and beer, and diapers and wipes, and a radio and more batteries.
It didn't last long, the storm. It was over before the time they said it would hit us. They said it was moving 50-60 miles per hour and that it would hit monymonyville at 5:45, it must have punch it, cause at 5:20 we lost power.
A few of the kids were crying and I won't name names so to protect an almost 10 year old's reputation who's playing tackle flag football this fall. We dragged them kicking and screaming up the stairs to prove that it's over and to assess the damage. My house was untouched and I thanked God that my family was safe.
We went outside to pick up debris and made bologna sandwhiches cause that's all I had that did not require using electricity to make.
Call family and friends to make sure they survived the "almost" tornado and put the kids to bed. And because I am so clever I went to the grocery store cause, we only lose power for just a few hours.
Wake up to still no power and all the little kiddies are dropped off.
It's amazing how something so little like now power, no refridgeration, no phone lines, no air conditioning in 90 degree temperatures doesn't effect parents from leaving their children with me for 10 hours or more.
It's morning and I'm inspecting the fridge and we are in dire need of ice to save my $180.00 investment from lastnight. The neighbor stops Tim and says plug your fridge into my generator.
That was so nice I'm sending Tim to the meat market to pick this man up some T-Bones as a thank you. Don't forget ours while you are there.
Did I also mention that my kids still have 2 more days of school before they are finished? Our schools are powerless/phoneless/ and now kidless. They should have come home today at 12:00 all happy and feeling free. Nope, there are still 2 days of school left. 2 days of finals, and for some and I do feel for them, 2 days before they can say, I''m a senior!
And we still have no clue what's going on with school. This is what's on their website.
Due to the recent storms monymonyville Schools do not have power. We will make up the days when power is restored with the following schedule.
High school and middle school students will take their final exams as scheduled: 3rd and 4th hour the first day back and 5th and 6th the second day back.
Elementary students will follow their schedules with PM Kindergarten attending the first day we return followed by AM Kindergarten the second day back.
During this day we find out that Maddy has pnemonia. Ok, just give me the mother of the year award, cause how do you miss that? Now we have to find a place open to have the Dr. fax her script over.
It's dinner time and I'm overheated, overexhausted, underpaid, and not over not having any power for the last 24 hours and DH asks, "What's for dinner?"
No, he said, "Let's go out". 2 seconds later I had the baby packed up, in her car seat, diaper bag all set with the 3 other kids in the car with the air running beeping the horn for him to hurry it up already.
Great Tim's Dr.'s office said on Friday that we'd get a phone call regarding Tim's test that he needs scheduled asap!
Another day no power, and still no surgery scheduled for Tim.
Tuesday: We all slept in the basement cause it's 90 degrees in my house. That was fun. No lights in unfamiliar territory. What I mean is you are awaken from a dead sleep by a crying baby. You realize it's not from the direction that you are accustomed to and you are sitting there with your knees up to your ears cause you are sleeping on an air mattress wondering which way to go. I actually said outloud I need to get my witts about me when Tim asked if I was ok"?
Tim gets up at 6 for his test I call the schools from my cell and the phones are still down. Snap still no school.
The little kids are still dropped off.
Matt's Dr.'s office calls to remind me of the apt. I made for him that's tomorrow, the day after school gets out. So, he doesn't miss any school time. Ok thanks and I hang up.
Wait! What if they go back to school tomorrow? Oops! Call back and reschedule it.
I get a hold of the person who's supposed to call me with Tim's next test apt and find out she was never informed to do this. Oy!
Turns out she got him in tomorrow and he needs a driver cause he's gonna be knocked out for the proceedure. Find him a driver and I think I can relax.
Nope I need to schedule him an apt with his regular Dr for a surgery clearance.
At about 10:30 this morning after 41 hours of utter chaos, we have power. The washing machine kicks on, ew, I forgot, I was doing laundry. I empty it and now know what the rotten egg that templeton dropped actually smelled like in
Charlotte's Web. Did I mention how much laundry has pilled up?
And I'm here entertaining you. I'm nice like that.
Until the next storm, cause if the wind blows wrong, my grid will go.
I think we will be purchasing a generator this week.
