Moore and P. Diddy Party!

I guess they think that since he's black and wants people to vote... there's no way he could be a republican. What happened to the "Party of Inclusion"?

It has nothing to do with race and inserting the race card here is sad and weak. Republicans elected the first Cuban American senator and first Indian American Congressman on Tuesday. We increased latino support by 10%, and have increased African American support by 2% in each of the past three elections. P. Diddy's race has nothing to do with this, and it's sad that some liberals seem to think it does.

I am a Diddy fan and didn't have that big of a problem with him in this election until I saw him on Hardball. First of all, Vote or Die? Come on I encourage knowledgable people my age to vote, but I'll be honest some of the people that registered to vote this year that I know registered because MTV told them there was going to be a draft if Bush was re-elected. I don't think Vote or Die is a good message, Vote if you know enough about the candidates is a better one.

Chris Matthews was interviewing Puffy and asking him if they failed if the results continued to show Bush winning, and P. Diddy said things would change by the end of the night and the youth vote would make the difference. That's almost coming out and saying it wasn't worth it if Bush wins, yes we were trying to elect Kerry.

If you watched any of the Vote or Die/Rock the Vote crap on MTV this year, it was more biased than ever. They were WAAAAY over the top with their support for Kerry, and that's what really makes me mad. People acting like they have no candidate and just want kids to vote, but really blatantly supporting a specific candidate.

These kinds of comments are a big reason why so many Democrats feel the way we do about Republicans.

Are you saying you like having MM as a spokesman?

I saw some of P. Diddy and his get-out-the-vote promotions, trying to figure out which party he was leaning to, and couldn't. Of course I saw one show as I was flipping through channels. I think he did a great job of masking his opinions as he was just promoting the vote. I didn't see him on Hardline.

As for Moore, his campaign began solely to get Bush out of office, NOT to have Kerry elected. If the Dems had a candidate they truly felt would make the changes they feel are necessary, he would have been elected. IMO most of the Kerry votes weren't *for* Kerry they were *against* Bush. Many of the Bush voters may have been ambivalent about him, but more fearful of the unknown.

What I noticed in this election is that no one in the major media outlets, and please correct me if I am wrong, challeged Senator Kerry on his 20 years in the Senate. Why is this? The Boston Globe did a story about a week ago (sorry, but I don't have the link, but I'll try and find it) about media bias. From Oct 1 to the 14th, 65% of the stories about Bush was negative compared to only 35% for Kerry. And this is from a liberal paper. Interesting. I'll see if I can't find the link.

Up until election night, for what it's worth, Combs never endorsed any candidate, he just tried to mobilize the youth vote--which I have no problem with.

My problem with Combs is his lack of class.
He is from where I live.
He defends his family members who have killed, yes killed, "rival rappers"-whatever the hell that is.
His ultimate display of class was when he stood on the hood of his Rolls Royce dressed like a gladiator, lifted his skirt and exposed himself and yelled "vote or die".

The gladiator outfit was cool though.

I understand why the right hates Moore. But please, explain to me what P. Diddy did, other than trying to get people to vote.
Is "P Diddy" the same as "Puff Daddy" >??? I don't know either of them but the images I remember of their photos seem to be the same person.

But - P Diddy is a rapper, right? Which to me is a couple of strikes against him already, because I hate rap "music." He may be an exception - I have heard that there are exceptions, though since I never listen to it, I have no experience with it - but I firmly believe that "rap music" is having a very dibilitating effect on our youth, especially black youth.

To answer the question of why P Diddy could be considered a scumbag because of his "get out the vote" campaign, let me offer his motto as a guide = "vote or die."

This is a propogandist message, and I hate all propogandists, regardless of the source or the cause. This is nothig more than an attempt to proclaim the draft as an "issue" in a campaign where there is absolutely no issue there. It is propoganda of the worst kind.

And what sort of people respond to propoganda? == Invariably it is the under-educated, poverty striken masses who are moved by obvious propoganda.

Therefore it is not believable that he is a "non-partisan" just trying to increase the "youth vote" == he was engaging in vile propaganda aimed at the most vulnerable of the "youth" vote.

Only scumbags do that.

also vote. That's his sin. Awful isn't it? Sheds
some light on the the people posting against him.

Is he now travelling around killing those that didn't vote?

I think a couple things need to be addressed here. First would be this comment:

This is just flat out false. None of Combs' family has been implicated in any killings of others rappers. I'm not sure where you came up with that one.

Before you go calling people scumbags, maybe you need to understand their message first. Combs' message had nothing to do with the draft. 'Vote or Die' was a slogan based on hip-hop terminology, which frequently uses phrases like 'ride or die' or '[fill in the blank] or die'. The message was meant to resonate with young people, and make voting seem 'cool'. It had absolutely nothing to do with the draft. So you can forget about that ridiculous propaganda argument.

There, how's that for a white guy breaking down hip-hop culture?
:D

I cannot argue with your statement - as I stated I am totally distanced from the rap culture - is that what "hip-hop" is?? Rap??Glad to know that.

However, the less I know about 'hip=hop' the better I feel. The only thing I really know about it is the type of person who drives around in their cars with the windows down emitting that awful noise booming out of their big blown-out speaker that probably cost more than the car they are driving.

Whatever it is that impresses that sort of person is something that I will choose to stay away from.

But I do have a question = why does it have to be played so loud?

To drown out the "nails on the chalkboard" sound of country "music" coming from way too many pick-ups...

At least the hip-hop comes from a good sound system. ;)

I saw Combs interviewed at the Republican convention, and I thought he did a good job. I am glad he encouraged people to register, but I don't understand why they organized this big movement. Those I know who became eligible to vote either because they turned 18 or became American citizens could not wait to register and vote. If someone doesn't care to register without being begged to do so, will they bother to take the time to know the candidates and issues and to make an informed decision?

Even the national news media has asked if the Democratic party is becoming recognized as the party of Michael Moore and Whoopi Goldberg and if that is a bad idea. I'm a moderate Republican, and I haven't listened to Rush Limbaugh in years because I find him monotonous, though he is not crude and nasty like Moore.

Wow! You are really dating yourself here.:D Hip-hop culture has moved mainstream- didn't you get the memo? Hip-hop has moved beyond music into poetry, literature, clothing, film...you name it. And you'll find hip-hop music on a variety of stations, listened to by a cross-section of the American public. It's loud because it's powerful.

My guess is that if you took even just a moment to open up your ear and hear some of the lyrics, you might just learn something about a culture and a generation that is demanding to be heard. The language is spoken in a different medium, but it is clear and intelligent. Are you willing to try a language foreign from your own? Are you willing to speak to this generation/culture at all?

Thanks - didn't know how many it would hold but I've cleared out the bulk.

Ya know - Michael Moore is becoming just like the Liberal Elitist thing the other day. Anyone want a shot? I've got Vodka, Tequilla, Kaluha, and Yagermister!
