Moonlight Magic Queue Wait Time

Just wanted to add, unfortunately that's not how it always works. For runDisney Tuesday (which also used queue-it) and Moonlight Magic Wednesday, my lowest numbers came from clicking AT 10 (or 11, can't remember which day was which). Separate browsers I had in queue previously were given higher numbers randomly. I couldn't say why, and I know it's not *supposed* to work that way. But that's how I got my Dopey entry and Moonlight Magic.

For me, a combination of some browsers in queue early and some clicked exactly at time of registration has worked well for me. It's not magic by any means, but it's helped me so far.
That is strange, but not really surprising. All their IT systems have issues. You would think that queue-it being a 3rd party solution it would be more reliable, but I know it can be glitchy too.

Clicking the link at the start time isn’t the right strategy. The way this system works is everyone who clicks the link and has the page open BEFORE the start time gets randomly assigned a place in line. If you click at the start time or after, you start at the back of that line, behind everyone who was on the page with the countdown before the start time. The second the clock hit 11 am EDT, there were already more than 10,000 in line ahead of you. This is why people are saying to use multiple devices - each one gets randomly assigned a place in line, then you just use the one with the lowest number.

For example, I opened the link on my computer the night before and left it open. At 11 am, I was randomly assigned number 3,6XX in line. Took about half an hour from then to get in to the registration page.

That is how it’s supposed to work. In actuality, it works differently. I got into the queue on my phone about 15 minutes before 11. On my iPad, I hit the button right at 11 (using the countdown on my phone queue). Unfortunately, my hit didn’t take and I had to push it again about 2 seconds later. So, you’d think my iPad queue would have been 10,000+. I think I got something in the 3,000’s. My phone was under 1,000.

So, it didn’t work quite as advertised, unless the queue countdown clock was off by several seconds. I agree that the best strategy was to have multiple attempts open to better your chances of a lower queue number (I had a couple of incognito windows open too).

Thanks for the info. I wish there wasn’t so much tribal knowledge required for reservations like these. It stinks to spend so much time uninformed only to result in disappointment. A few have made comparisons to restaurant reservations and such to reserving this event, however when I check for those I know immediately if I can secure a reservation or not. For Moonlight Magic I have to wait well over an hour to find out it’s sold out, which was the entire point of this thread to begin with.

Although after 12+ years of ownership with multiple contracts I am losing the interest and energy to fight the herd for Resort Stays, ADRs, Rides, and events like these. I do appreciate the info to be better prepared next time. If there is one that is…My time is extremely valuable to me, and the whole Disney System seems to be setup to be insensitive to that. Just my own perception I suppose.
I think plenty of folks agree with you - I'm lucky that I'm able to try tons of methods, and set aside work time on my calendar to manage Disney's IT messes. But my parents (also DVC members) have given up on trying. It's sad. I'm not sure what the answer is, but the way it is right now is not ideal.

Totally! TBH, I also had a random experience where I actually got to register for runDisney at release time, when no one else could and had to wait for 12:30. Not sure if my office IP was just that good (highly unlikely) or the disney gods decided to take mercy on me for years of wonky attempts.

I did the same thing yesterday, rescheduled meetings to free up my calendar but was still concerned about the tail end of the window I created. Which is why I posted this thread to begin with. Unreal that I have to sacrifice work time to even have a chance at this stuff but it is what it is.

Sad is right, the amount of effort and time it takes that it takes to try book what you want in this crazy system has gotten to be absurd in my point of view. You need to become a part time travel agent, even while onsite, and with all the tips and tricks you have to employ even have a chance makes me pity the first time visitors. I realize DVC and the parks are separate things, but I find it to be anything but the ”flexible“ vacation that is marketed.

I tried again to see if I can register again for Moonlight Magic in July. Now I understand why some people say do not move your travel dates just bec of moonlight magic. Sigh! My family did not get in. Boo hoo.... I did not know this whole scenario is a lottery. It would have been better for Disney to simply pull all families eligible and ask are you interested in the lottery for a chance to join Moonlight magic and let us know IF we do get something. It's not right to get people's hopes up.

In essence, the queue is the lottery. Low number, you get in. Mid number, you might get in. High number, highly unlikely to get in. Numbers randomly assigned. And like a state lottery, the more you enter, the slightly better chance you have of winning.
