Month of November - WISH Team Walkers and Runners

Hi everyone! I got in a 10 mile training walk/run yesterday. I'm maintaining a 15 mpm pace still. My goal during my shorter weekday runs is to increase my pace and maybe get down to a 14:30 pace by race day.

I do find that my legs don't even warm up for the first two miles, especially my shins which leads to my feet feeling like (or actually) they're flopping around and slapping the ground. That leads me to believe that I am going to need a 1-2 mile warm up before starting the race. At least it is a long walk to the starting line!

Just checking in ... I had a couple of great (fast) runs earlier this month and then a couple of stonkers last week. But I guess that's way training goes - not every run/workout can be the greatest. Did my 7 miler today - in shorts! Never would have thought that possible for November but I'll take it :) Went slowly because my knee was pinching a little - I think from a tight IT band. I ran the whole thing but only because I was going slowly. I figured if I was not going to get a good time, I might as well pay attention to my form - make sure I was running straight and not slouching, etc.

Maura - I like your idea of running without a watch.

Jackie - How did Richmond go for you?

Terri - That's a lot of steps! Wow!

Jeff - I plan to make it out for the Honolulu marathon one of these years! It's so close to Disney though so it's a tough choice.

Carrie - How's your hip doing?

That's all for now! Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Vicky, Honolulu is not too close to Disney. It's just a 26.2 training run for Goofy. You have one month in between to keep training.

If you want to fly out on the 12th, I have TWO extra bibs that are not going to be used this year by friends. One injured, one can't take the time off.

If and when you know which year, email me by May 1st. I can get you the early entry rate for locals (using my address). $30 this year. Sounds cheap right? Well it used to be $20. And when I did my very first marathon in 1995, it cost me a whopping $2!

As for me, I got in 16 1/4 easy miles this morning.

Hey gang just stopping in to say hi. I need to dedicate more time to checking in with you all. I am a bad teamate!!!!:grouphug:

Vicky (and all) - Finished the Richmond marathon yesterday in 5:53:45. My goal was 6:00, so I'm very happy. I'm also very sore today! I'm going to attempt a race report on the race report thread. The weather in Richmond when we left today was gorgeous - wouldn't you know. Friday and Saturday, not so good.

Jeff - Honolulu is a bargain!

Megan
- The more I run, the longer it seems to take to warm up. The other night I ran 3.8 miles on the TM, and I was almost through 3 before I really felt good. Makes 5K runs hardly worth the time! Fortunately during the marathon Saturday it didn't seem to take as long as it does during training runs. I'm hoping for the same in January.

Solar
- Great job on C25K. I started that last year when I was recovering from IT band injuries, but never made it through. I still can't run a 5K from start to finish...:confused3

Jackie

Jackie, it is a bargain if you know me. LOL. I registered Marcia, Tracy & Chester using my address, and only during the first weekend it is open to locals.

Here's the regular prices:

2009 Honolulu Marathon Entry Fee Schedule
by Oct. 30 Oct. 31 - Nov. 13 Nov. 14 - Dec. 12
$165 $195 $225 International

$130 $165 $225 U.S

$ 85 $115 $225 Hawaii resident ($30 early entry in May)

Frank - any reason that you were running as if you were being chased? That made me laugh. I'm glad that you figured out your stomach problem and had a good run.

No reason in particular. I tend to let my mind wander a lot when I run. Most of the time that is fine because part of the fun of running, at least for me, is that free time to just ponder stuff. When I want to do a fast pace though I have to keep my mind on running and the way I do it is imagine I am leading the race by 100m and have to keep the guy behind me. Kind of strange but it works.

Jeff - Honolulu is not a cheap marathon, especially once you factor in the cost of getting and staying there. I'm sure it is COMPLETELY worth it though.

I just got back from an easy 7.9 and even though it is late I'm going to have a noodle bowl then shower and bed.

Airfare from Oakland, CA was $350 round trip last week. That's a steal for December. Hotels are all on sale, due to the terrible economy here.

This is the year to come over, everything is on sale.

Wouldn't this be enough to get you here in December?

Nice shot Jeff!

Good Morning Wishers!!!

Been a while since I made it into a weekly/monthly thread.

Training is going decent for my second goofy challenge. Got in a 7 on Saturday and 17 Yesterday. Feel pretty good today.

So excited to get to Marathon weekend!!!

Greetings folks :worship:. Just checking in after a week of being down with the seasonal flu. Got a 5 mile run/walk in yesterday outdoors and i feel good. The wife and i are going to do a 10K Thanksgiving morn. The run fits in with my week to run 7 miles so i should be fine with it. Anxiously awaiting the WDW 1/2 marathon.

I know this will seem silly to the fast people, but ...

:woohoo::woohoo:Ohmigosh! If my math is right I *AM* going to be able to move up a corral at the half in January. They want proof of time if you expect to finish sooner than 2:45. That's around 12:35, I hit 12:25 in this weekend's 10k! It's splitting hairs, but I think I made it. I thought the requirement was in the 11s. Ohmigosh!:woohoo::woohoo:

It's too late to email the results, but they are printed and in the trip stack.

Ronda

OT and definitely falling into the parental bragging category (but at least running related).....

DD's team (MIT) qualified to compete at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship in Cleveland this Saturday!!! DD is co-captain and is having a good running year, finishing 8th at the reqional. Woohoo!

So off to Cleveland this Saturday--thank goodness it's only a 3 hour drive.

Maura

Maura that is awesome congrats to your DD!!!!!

Jackie, sorry I didn't congrats you on your sub 6 hr!!!!!!!:cheer2::cheer2:

ROnda - Way to go on moving up in teh corrals!

Syko - Just realized I never resonded to you about my SIL's knee meniscus tranplant. meant to but could not get on the thread. I did find a bunch of info, but I hat that these transplants are relatively new. Plus she may need a re-do in 10 years or less. :sad2: better than constant pain, though.

Maura - Huge congrats to DD! That's awesome!! :sad1:I guess that emans you won't meet us in Kensington Sunday.

Jackie - You are just rockin' through the races. Way to go!

Dolce - Welcome!!!

Dale - So glad tto hear you 2 are doing well!

Vicki - Thanks for asking. I now have a full week in and all is going ok. The 16 this weekend will eb a big test, but my runs have gone well and I have recovered well.

Megan - I always take 2 to 3 mile sot warm up. Not a problem with races, though. I think the adrenaline kick-start, plus taper, really help with that.

I think the hip is pretty well healed and I'm back on track again. Yay!!! The 16 scares me a bit, but I've been scared by it before. All will be ok.

Hi, folks. The prodigal WISHer returns. Lots of LTO and training worries, all that will fall by the wayside come January. :lmao: I've managed to keep up with the LRs, barely, although I keep getting slower and slower with these infernal Goofy b2bs. Grumble, grumble.

A few hellos!

Maura: Kensington is hilly. Diane, Susan, and Carrie have said it, and the three of us have experienced it, so I'm just sayin'. Big congrats to DD and her X-Country Team!

Megan: Had no idea you practiced karate, let alone are so close to black belt. Woo hoo!

Manda & Solar: You're doing great with C25K. It does get easier!

Liz:  and know exactly how you feel.

Frank: You've had such success this year in meeting your goals! Glad you figured out what was making you queasy.

Sandy: I'm always doing accidental miles. No sense of direction and too much pride. I keep telling myself it's good for the training. :lmao:

Dolce: What Sandy said about the nametag.

Vicky: How's the IT band? Mine's been bothering me a bit, not stretching/XT enough.

Aloha Jeff: Consistent training, as always, my friend. Ditto what Jackie said--Honolulu is a bargain for locals. I definitely need to relocate (gee, can you tell it's chilly here today).

Carrie:  for the hip, for the problem with the Alert Shirts, etc. You're one tough warrior! ;)

Hi to everyone I missed: Ronda, Racy Tracy, Liz, Kim, LeeshieBean, Timmac, Dislvr74, Kate, Diane, Susan, Jeanne, DisneyBride, Susie, Terri, DisneyMommy, Jackie, Dale, Kirstie, and anyone else!

As for me: Like I said, struggling with LTO and time. Too much freelance work for not enough cash, the Three Rivers Film Festival is going on (for Terry Gilliam fans, see The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus when it comes out), etc. There might be a light at the end of the tunnel there, with some free time opening up. Think I'll just fill that up with this week's b2b. :rotfl2:

Looking forward to staying caught up with everyone (she says hopefully). :thumbsup2

I climbed the Sears Tower Sunday. 2,197 steps. 103 floors. Plus some.
(how's that for out of the blue news)

I'll get my race report up later and try to catch up.
