Month of November - WISH Team Walkers and Runners

dislvfr - A half on 8 is very do-able Biggest thing now is to rest and be well! :wizard:

tinmac - Congratulations!!!!

Maura? Serirously? You don't think Kensington is hilly? that's my toughest course. It's beautiful adn I feel like I have accomplished tons when there, but it those things that go up adn down seem a lot like hills to me. Always slow there. Is there a jaw dropping smiley sometwhere? I just can't belieev you don't call it hilly. Diane? Skywalker Dave? SOmeone chime in here. I think you are being way too hard on yourself. BTW, I can only run it CCW or else my hammy/piri formis take a beating. You may want ot try the other direction next time to see if that helps the aches. BTW, they do keep it plowed in teh winter. SOmetimes, though, it doesn't get plowed until noon on Saturday which makes fo a tough first part of the run. Will be ther for my LR in a couple weeks.

OK, taking a break. the half 2 weeks ago adn ToT did a number on me. Piri formis is flaming, along iwth hammy and hip. Ice adn advil seem to eb helping. Getting amassgae on Thursday. Can't ebliev I have to wait that long but this person is supposed to be good. She's an Ironman. What more oculd I want? :upsidedow

Carrie,

I agree that Kensington is hilly. There aren't too many hills in Michigan. I am convinced that most of the hills in Michigan are located in Kensington! Keep up with that ice and Advil. I hope the massage does wonders for you. I have been doing the ice and Advil too. I thought I had shin splints, but I think it is actually something worse. Only time and x-rays will tell.

I stuck with my exercise goal for yesterday. It was a small goal of half an hour, but I did it. I just walked yesterday - trying to only run every other day for now - but I cranked up the incline and had a good time. It still made me pretty tired.

Susan: PD for your shins. Hopefully it isn't anything serious. Ice and Advil are all of our friends.

Hi everyone! I did a 30-ish minute tempo run this morning. It was nice and cool but I think I'm going to have to replace my cap with a more wintery hat so I can keep my ears warm.

Manda - Don't feel bad... when I first started running a year ago, I could barely run 2 minutes without taking a 5 minute break in between.

Maura - pixiedust: for all the bumps and ouchies! A trainer I worked out with a couple of weeks ago showed me a really great stretch for the IT band. Basically, you do a walking lunge. As you're coming back up, before you go into the next lunge, grab the foot that was at the back, cross it in front of your body, hold it for a few seconds and then that leg will go in front for the next lunge. Alternatively, I guess you could just stand on one leg, hold on to the other foot, cross that leg in front of the other and stretch your IT band that way but I like to incorporate the lunges as part of my warmup.

Have a great day everyone!

Susan - :flower3:Didn't meant ot leave you out. :sad2: Well, we have a decent amount o fhills over here (not on my course, but a decent amount in the area). Also, Bishop, where I trainined fo cross in HS, has some nasty hills too, but they are unpaved trails (or were). So, they aren't all at Kensingotn, jsut maybe 90%. :rotfl:

Just remember--this is what training is for. Don't think too far ahead and don't freak out if you have crummy workouts. It happens to everyone, as do injuries and other LTO's that cause training to occasionally go south. With the right attitude (and this is 50% a mental game) you'll do great.
Some of the best advice ever!

Checking in...working on Week 3 of the c25k, got a workout in today - yeah!

Hey there! Remember me? :rolleyes1

Been having some life issues and not wanting to just whine so read but not posting much. However feeling better, think things are turning a bit and I'm back! Boom Baby!! ;)

Got in a walk last night - not as long as I planned but left ankle was hurting and wouldn't stop so cut it short. Better safe than sorry at this point.

Keep up the great work everyone and I promise to actually post more often.

Hello....hello? Where is everyone?

I charted unexplored territory today with a 14 mile run...well, actually it ended up being ~ 14.4 since DH's directions were slightly off. Anyway, it's the longest I've ever run. Was I tired when I was done! I don't know if I could have gone another mile or not. Hip flexors were definetely working, but nothing was really sore or bothering me. It was just a long run!

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend. When I was done running, the temp reigstered 68! Amazing for a November in Michigan.

Maura

Maura, sorry, I was busy out running today. Just 20.5 miles, so I would have responded sooner. :rotfl2: How's the job hunting going?

Vicky, I just saw your post from last month. I guess I'm ready for Honolulu. Who knows, but I should be good to go. Chester and Tracy from Florida will be here, following their Las Vegas marathon the weekend before. Marcia won't make it for the second year in a row.

Hi all. I haven't been on the monthly thread but I've been keeping up on the race reports and think everyone has done great.

After taking a little over a week off after the full I have done a couple of runs and the legs are 100%. My stomach has been a bit queezy on both runs but nothing too terrible. Looking forward to getting the miles back up and keeping them up over the winter so I don't have my normal slow spring start. I am doing the National half marathon in March so at least I have a later winter/early spring half to train for.

Hope everyone's bumps. bruises, aches, and viral infections are all healed up.

Maura! Huge congrats on the 14.4! I love tha tfeeling of acocmplishment when you go father than you ever have before!

Jeff - WTG on that 20+!

Frank - Glad your legs are 100%. Any thougths on teh queasiness. My first thought is not enough nutition. Coud be too much, though. Are you mixing enough eater with electrolytes/gels?

Solar - WTG on week 3!!!

Well, I decided a 14-miler (or any run) was still pushing it for me this weekend. I did do 60 min of wii+ yoga nd 40 min of other low/no impact stuff. 1:40, Not bad for a day I skipped my run. Of course, dh humbled me big time. He did his 14-miler in 2:04. Our PR for teh hald is 2:19. :rolleyes1 So, I now know that he does not need me to keep from burning himself out and that I do hold him back. he said it was lonely w/o me, though (good man). :goodvibes

Was amazing weather, so I did at least bike to/from dinner last night. Just can't believe how nice it is.

Hi all!!
I am hoping this is the place to post!

total newbie here!

I have decided to register for the Inaugaral Wine & Dine next week...I started a thread...in the WRONG place...lol....http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2322933
Asked for it to be moved...or perhaps someone here may start a thread next week....

Anyway...I am really excited about this goal, I just want to cross that finish line and not be "swept"...
I am at 4 miles on the TM in an hour....at a brisk walk...not sure if I can run..maybe a jog down the road...
I did sign up for my first ever 5K walk next month!!
have learned alot already reading these threads.....
Thanks to all who contribute:)

Hi All - what a crazy week! I keep waiting for things to slow down, but maybe I just need to speed up to keep up with them :)

I started week 4 of C25K yesterday - that is running 5 minutes (in a row!) I finished it and felt pretty good after. Knees and legs are a little sore today, but I am looking forward to running again tomorrow.

Jeff - you are crazy! 20 miles, I can't even wrap my mind around that! So impressed.

Solar - we are about at the same place in C25K - good luck with W4D1 on Tuesday, let me know how it goes.

Disneybride03 - Welcome to WISH. :wave2: I am fairly new here myself, but it has been great! Great people great advice, great friends!

Frank - Glad your legs are 100%. Any thougths on teh queasiness. My first thought is not enough nutition. Coud be too much, though. Are you mixing enough eater with electrolytes/gels?

The only conclusion I can come to is that I am not getting enough water. Since I haven't been doing the long runs I haven't been loading up on as much water throughout the day so in the evening when I run I might just be a bit dehydrated.

I'm heading to the gym and than back out on the road again tonight to take advantage of the little warm spell we have going on. Hopefully I've had enough of the H2O today.

Welcome to all the new folks - mandac, solar, DisneyBride'03! Glad to have you join us. :cool1:

Frank- I've been queasy after the last several half-marathons I've done and I don't know why. I try to get enough water and electrolytes into my system along the course and the days before but I always feel terrible for about 30 minutes after I finish. I can't figure it out. :confused3 Hope you are able to get your system turned around.

Maura - congrats on the 14-miler. When I trained for the marathon 2 years ago, I wondered how in the world would I be able to complete it. For my first 14-miler, I swore I wouldn't be able to do more than that. Then, miracously, I did a 16-miler two weeks later. Then an 18-miler a few weeks later, and so on. Each time I wondered how I could do more. But I did. Keep up the good work!

mandac - sounds like you are doing well with your C25K. Keep up the good work! :thumbsup2

DisneyBride - congrats on signing up for the Wine and Dine race and the 5K next month. Having a carrot dangling in front of you is a good way to keep up the training. :cool2:

solar - congrats on staying on track for your C25K training. I've enjoyed reading about your progress. Keep up the good work.

Carrie - Hope you can get up to full speed soon. Nice that you can train with your DH and that he enjoys training with you. Steve and I go our separate ways when we train. Ha!

Liz - those darn life issues! Been there, done that!

Jeanne - awesome NYC report. I CAN'T believe you did two back to back marathons. :worship: I'll bet John was glad to have you join him! :goodvibes

timmac - another day, another marathon it seems. Are you a marathon maniac? :teeth:

Hope everyone's training is going well. For all those nursing injuries and illnesses - here's some :wizard::wizard::wizard: for you.
