Month of July - WISH Team Walkers and Runners

Diane, I believe the final day is in December. I need to dig out my paperwork for it, but I know the recommitment day is October 5. Basically if I am not reaching my goals, I can back out up until that date. If I decide to keep going, I am then guaranteeing that I will raise the minimum (I pay it if I can't get donations from other people). I just met my mentor today. She is actually running the Philadelphia Distance Run, so we said we may run together after the TnT runs in the early weeks since we will need to be running longer than the training plan requires.

Question for everyone: What heart rate monitor do you use if you use one? I'm considering using one. I just don't want to spend a bunch of money on a fancy one right away. When I was using the elliptical on Sunday, I found that the longer I was on it the faster my HR was, even though I was going at the same pace I had been for the previous 3 miles. Is that normal?

Happy Thursday! If I get out of work early enough I will get a run in this evening, otherwise it will be a run tomorrow morning.

I hope it's normal, too. I find the same thing. Every mile my heart's a little faster. I assume removing the lactic acid requires increased blood flow and that's what makes it pick up.

I have a Polar RS200 with the footpod (measures speed/distance). It's at Amazon for $155, which is better than before, but more than it sounds like you want to spend. They also have the FS1 at $60. One reviewer said he found the FS1 at Wal-mart for $40. Look around.

3 Miles in the yucky Sticky heat pushing a jogging stroller to boot. Felt good though to get all sweaty. Made me feel like I earned it. :lmao:

How's everyone's training coming along? You Disneyland folks have just over a month to go....:banana:

Good Friday Morning Team!!!! Ya it is a long weekend for me...wahoooooo

Chris: WTG on the 3 miles and sweating :thumbsup2

Megan, Ronda: Sorry can't help on the HR thing, but I am sure someone here has a answer

Kira: Safe travels

AFM: Got in my morning workout, but didn't walk last night by the time I finished all my errands it was pretty much bed time. Going to do a major overhall of the house this weekend and purge the house of stuff no longer used so I am hoping to burn some cals.

Have a great Friday all!!!

Kim Good luck with the house cleaning--definitely a calorie burner....should count double since it's such a chore!

Chris I hear you--sometimes it feels really good to get sweaty. But other times, it just feels.....sweaty!

Taking a 1/2 day's vacation today....let's have some fun! I downloaded the Food & Wine festival brochure and so will enjoy perusing that at lunch.

Weights for me this morning, and a long run this weekend. Hope the legs and heat cooperate.

Happy Friday all and have a great weekend.

Maura

Happy Friday everyone!!

Kim, congrats on your weight loss goal this week!! :thumbsup2

Chris, thanks for the reminder on the race date, I can't believe in some ways that we're getting so close! This weekend is a 9 mile training, my first time at that mileage. But I'm looking forward to it!!

I finally had a breakthrough on my weekday training. I had been going out for about 1 1/2 miles to walk the dog before doing my training, thinking that would be a good warm up (our pup is getting a bit older, so the pace is slower, but he still likes to go!). Turns out, I think that was my mistake. Last night I got home from the chiropractor too late to walk the dog and get in my training, so DH took the dog out while I did my training. MUCH better!! I felt good, kept up a good pace, and didn't feel like quitting half way through. I think I will start walking the dog after my training now, as a cool down instead of a warm up...

Have a great weekend all!

Megan- Congrats on the donation. I did the same with my relay for life page. I posted it on Facebook and in my signature and got a DISer I met on the Podcast Cruise to donate.

Maura- Just use that physical as motivation on those runs you really don't want to do.

Kira- Are you on vacation in Maine or do you go there for the summer? I am looking forward to spending some time at Acadia when I can get the time. Hiking, Biking, Kayaking...how can you go wrong?

Chris- Where are you in Ohio? It was pretty darn hot here yesterday but I waited for the sun to go down to do my long run...

...and it was not the best of the summer. I didn't really feel like going out but the way this week is I had to do it last night or not at all. I went out a bit slow because I have my relay for Life tonight which will have me on my feet almost non stop from 3:00pm until 9:00am tomorrow morning. It was one of those runs I'm sure you have all had where you were unmotivated and just slogged out the miles. To put it in perspective, it was exactly the same distance as my LR last week (12.3 miles) and where the run last week was at a 7:10 pace last nights was at 7:40...and it sure felt like it.

Any of you Cleveland area DISers looking for something to do tonight come on up to the Parma Relay for Life. It's at Tri-C West (Pleasant Valley and York) and the stuff for the public starts at 5:00. You can't miss our tent, we are team HOPE and our sign has Dumbo on it. We have found a way most years to work a Disney character into the theme, which is a circus theme this year.

Frank - I live just outside of Columbus. I did my run last night at 6 and it wasn't bright.

Speaking of not bright I just finished my 8 miler. Pretty Warm and Humid. Had to walk a couple times. Felt like the Humidity went down as the run went along.

I'm a relay life Committee member myself so good luck tonight! HOPE you guys raise a ton of dough!!!!!

WDW Annual Pass Info - WOW!!!
Saw this on DVC News -

A poster on the DISboards (and Walt Disney World Cast Member) is reporting that beginning August 2, 2009, most Annual Passes will renew for a period of 15 months instead of the current 12 months.

According to the information provided by "Cheshire Figment":

Effective August 2, 2009 renewals within 30 days before or after the expiration date will receive an additional three months and will be valid for 15 months from the expiration date of the current Pass. Renewal Exchange Vouchers sold prior to August 2, 2009 may be redeemed with this offer provided the renewal is occurring August 2, 2009 or later.

The notice did not specifically state that Disney Vacation Club Annual Passes are included in this offer. However, every other variety of Annual Pass for the 4 major theme parks is included.

It is also not known if this is a limited time offer vs. a global policy change, or how renewal pricing would be impacted by introduction of the 15-month term.
