Month of December - WISH Team Walkers and Runners

Hi all fellow WIShers!!

Happy belated birthdays to Maura and Kirstie!

Training is coming along as I just did the Spacecoast with a new PR of 2:46:17!! Took most of this week off, but may try to go out tonight after work for 3-4 easy miles as I have a Jingle Bell Jog 5K on Saturday. Also the toe that I lost a toenail on before the Princess this year got a blister right under the nail again. Popped it and its feeling better, but I think I may end up nailless again soon. What with the WDW half and then then ING Miami Half 2 weeks later! hahaha - eh Toenails are for sissies right?

Keep up the good training everyone!

-Tracy

Toenails? Who needs Toenails?

I've got to say that my toes are ugly since I started running. I may need a manicure shortly before this trip so that I can wear sandals (if it is warm enough)!

Happy birthday Maura and Kirstie!

32 more days until my b-day! In 2011 I plan on going for the whole week before the race to celebrate.

Hey WISHers!!!

Happy Birthday to Kirsty and Maura!!!

Barbara - Congrats on your weight loss. That's awesome!!

Tracy - Keep rocking those miles. Ignore the toenails they are more for decoration.

My Goofy Plan is back on schedule so I'm pretty happy there. I have a 6 miler scheduled this afternoon, but I'll likely try to go farther and tomorrow is the dreaded 20. Ugh. Just thinking about it makes me want to skip it.....:rolleyes1

Megan - :rotfl:

Vicky - You know 1 skipped SR will not hurt at all. Just don't want to make it a habit. Hope things are better for your LR!

Tracy - COngrats again on that awwesoem PR!

Terri - Havea great trip!

Kim - Hi!

Barb!!!! So good to see you! Congrats agian on the weight loss. Thrilled ot hear that has solved your knee pain!!! Ugh, I keep tellign myself my body can'thandle the extra weight, but it still keeps craving teh food. :sad2:

Hi everyone!

Carrie - I think I felt worse about skipping the run because the weather has been so nice. I think if it were snowing and freezing cold I wouldn't care as much. I'll wait and see what my PT says tonight.

Barbara - Wow! Congratulations on your weight loss! That's phenomenal!

Terri - Safe travels!

Tracy - Congrats on the PR! Do you have a pic of the medal? I had one of my toe nails turn purple during the summer. It's just starting to grow out but it still looks yucky. Thank goodness for nail polish :)

Chris - Good luck on your 20 miler!! I hope the weather cooperates for you.

AFM - I think I'll probably take it easy until Saturday and give my LR a try then. Going to see my PT tonight and hopefully he can figure out all this knee stuff.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Hi Wishers ~

Happy Birthday to Kirsty and Maura (big birthday!! Hope you had fun)

Barbara - Congrats on your weight loss~ It's great that you're back on WISH and enjoying your training...pain free!

Tracy - Who needs toe nails! Hopefully it falls off with enough time to heal for WDW. I plan on pulling one of mine off soon. It's been black forever!

Maura & Kirsty - Belated Happy Birthday!

Tracy - Yep, toenails, are for sissies. I lost 2 after the full last year, then lost a third while tripping over the dogs. I think it was weak from the marathon too, which is why it gave up so easily! So far everything looks good after Richmond, but I had some killer blisters.

Vicky - Sometimes skipping the run is the best strategy. Monday's run was a complete bust, and I was really bummed, but tonight was great. I think my body just needed a few days off and I wasn't listening well enough!

Frank - I've been making a conscious effort NOT to overdress. I've almost frozen my *** off early in the run, but I haven't been hot! Saturday's run should be a challenge. "Cloudy and cold with rain likely, possibly ending as a mix of rain and snow and perhaps some sleet." I'm hoping that comes AFTER the run, not early in the AM.

Tonight's run was a challenge of a different sort. We had almost 2" of rain yesterday, but DH and I never considered the effect that might have on our regular greenway route when we invited another couple to join us for our run today. We started out, made it about 500 feet, and saw ducks swimming across the greenway. Don't think we're going that way. Turn around, head the other direction. Water standing on the path as far as we can see. No go. :sad2: Try an alternate route. Water is probably 3 feet deep across the greenway. :scratchin Probably not going that way either. Cross the road, back down onto the greenway on the other side. (Good news is, we've done a mile already just trying to find a place to run. :thumbsup2) Continue on a couple of miles until the mud is so deep that we can't find any direction to go, so we turn around and head back. As we're going through the trees to get back to the road, DH pulls a branch back and forgets that I'm behind him when he lets go and it smacks me straight in the face. We all get a good laugh at that one. :rotfl2: We finished with 5 miles in exactly 1 hour - not bad with all the turns, slowing down to squish through the really muddy parts, and climbing through the trees to get back to the path! THIS is adventure running!

Anyway, I felt great, especially after not being able to run at all Monday night, so apparently my body has had sufficient rest. I was even able to keep up with the other three, all of who are much faster runners than I am for the most part.

Kirsty All the cool kids have our birthday! (Well, if you like Bette Midler, Woody Allen, and a few others!) Hope yours was great!

Tracy Nice pictures, but wasn't that suit hard to run in?;)

Jackie Sounds like your own Muddy Buddy run-wet and wild! Glad you felt good.

Well, now that the bib numbers are out, I better get off my butt and go run. I went to bed and woke up with a cold (was hoping it would go away over night-no luck.) Still, six miles shouldn't be too bad today (I hope)

And BTW, the answer to the birthday age riddle was 51 (9.3 +13.1 +26.2 + 24/10)

Maura

I got 5 miles in last night. I went to the gym after work and after the first mile I started getting bored and wanted to quit, but I forced myself to keep moving. I am so happy I did. I got a lot more running in and I hope I can translate that into a really good 12 miles on Saturday (except that the weather is supposed to gross).

I hope everyone has a good weekend!

It's been a very long time since I posted on WISH or the WISH Weekly thread, so I hope you all don't mind this lost soul returning. I just really want to share with people who get it!

Some of you may have seen my post, my motivation was totally gone for my 10 miler and then when I finally went to run it I got horribly sick. But I had the BEST 5 mile run last night. It was so easy and felt really good, which never happens on the treadmill :rotfl: I've been on such a runners-high since then, my fiance thinks I am NUTS!

I'm actually really excited about trying 10 again this weekend. I know if I said this to my DFi he'd give me that look that says "I love you, so I will be running next to you, but you are crazy and I will loathing every minute"

Made it back home from West Virginia today! Drove through snow/slush/rain for almost 7 hours. It was not fun. I was sliding a few times, but luckily came through fine (especially since I was in a rental vehicle).

No training today (except for shoveling when I got home :rolleyes1).

Got my bib numbers (posted on the Goofy thread :cool1:). Hard to believe the race is in 32 days!)

The past three weeks have seen some practical issues of life take a very unfortunate toll on my training patterns. Without further comment (since it's kind of irrelevant to the point at hand), I'll just mention that I've started a new job, and moved into a new place as my wife and I are now separated.

Though I haven't necessarily been pressed for time; on the contrary, I've actually gained a few hours to myself in the average day-- but several of my would-be training sessions, my heart just hasn't been in it at all. That said, not all is lost... I have had a few runs in the 2+ hour range, so I'm not worried about overall fitness or endurance, just that my volume hasn't been nearly what it should be for 5 weeks out at this point.

My new plan at this point? Next three weeks will be high-volume weeks with multiple 10+ mile runs per week, hopefully with a least one or two 10/16 type back-to-backs, and a two week taper before showtime. Not necessarily an ideal training plan this late in the game, but it will have to do.

Ok, I keep reading that bib numbers are 'out'. What does that mean? Where do you get that info? I've not gotten any emails or anything in the mail. Help, getting nervous and want to make sure we didn't miss something.

timmac Sorry to hear about your situation. I hope things work out for you.

Patricia Well, there is a "covert" link to the bib number/waiver page. Not officially posted by Disney yet, but here it is. Take it with a grain of salt.....

As for me....did an ugly 18 today. My first time at this distance, and was hoping it would go well, but it didn't. My legs were achy and sore the entire time, and my fuel breaks were tortuous to start running again. BUt I did the whole thing, without any additional breaks, and I'm sure it was very slow. Didn't bother with a watch since I felt like I knew roughly what the time would be, plus I'm fighting a cold and didn't want to stress myself out with having to run a certain pace.

Anyway, I need to figure out the leg soreness soon. No way I could have done another 8 today. Sort of a bummer since the 16 miler went better than this.

This is really a good thing you're saying! Tick off the miles 1 by 1, not the minutes :)

timmac- Sorry to hear about your situation.

Went out tonight and did about an hour. I didn't really go very fast, I was just enjoying the lights and the run. I have to make sure not to have too many of those though. We might get a little snow this week. I am kind of looking forward to a nice snow run. They beat a slushy run any day :thumbsup2
