Month of August - WISH Team Walkers and Runners

Sorry team, geee away from the internet for 1 day and so far behind.

Just wanted to wish you all a awesome day!!!

leeshiebean Congrats on you run. It does feel good when the run goes well, doesn't it!

Mel Hope you make it to the final RFTT...gotta get that new medal. As for work, I'm taking the fifth right now...ask again in a month.

Kira Hope the training starts off well--just don't do too much, too soon---but you know that, right? And don't forget to stretch your Achilles after you run. <ine tend to geet somewhat tight and tender if I don't.

french lady welcome back and we will look for that smile in October and January! 72 and sunny--you couldn't possibly have been in Florida!

Kim Good day to you, too!

As for me Did my 8 this morning in weather very much like Disney in August--very humid, but at least not blazing heat yet. Took it easy and felt pretty good. My weird calf muscle issue apparently doesn't bother me when I run, only when I walk! Tracey With the sweat, rain pouring off me and splashing through some puddles, I decided that this was more than just pinky pistols....it was a "full body bazooka" !

Stretched and re-hydrated...time to eat and go grocery shopping!

See everyone later.

Maura

Hi all-

I'm glad I found this forum! I'm planning on running the Disneyworld half in 2011 so it will be great to meet other people with the same goal!

I'm running about 3 miles 5 x's per week right now and working my way up. I did a Couch to 5k program a few years back and really hurt my shins so I'm working my way back into shape slowly but surely!

And with that, I'm out the door for a run!

New order thread is here.

MIss checking in with everyone. LIfe is crazy and just gets crazier. In fact, I'm posting this thanks to the generator. Storm came thorugh like I haven't seen since 10 years ago. WHo knows when I'll have power for real. :sad2:

Good early morning,
Sunday was a day of rest and grocery shopping. I am in my 7th night of work (only 3 more to go) and it is beginning to be difficult to find the strenght to go running in the afternoon. And it is supposed to very warm this afternoon. It will be a fun easy run.

Maura: No it is not Florida weather but Quebec weather.

Diane

Good morning! I'm up making Disney dining reservations for a client (got everything we wanted except dinner ressies at Le Cellier - took lunch instead).

I bagged my 6-miler yesterday because it was raining cats and dogs, so I'll do that this morning after I drop my son off for his High School orientation (yikes!). I think it is providential that I missed that run, since my Achilles was still bugging me yesterday morning, but feels fine today. I am stretching after my runs, but may try icing as well. This is a new one for me! Could new shoes help?

It's going to be a scorcher here in the Northeast today. Stay hydrated everyone!

Kira, we have the same weather here. It has been a cool wet summer for us so far but yesterday it started to feel like someone forgot to shut the oven door and we are extremely hot and humid with some major thunder bangers.

When I started having PF problems, I was told to get new shoes, so although I am no expert that is what I was advised to do.

Kim

Well, about 4 miles into my planned 6-mile run, my left Achilles really started aching. I stretched it a few times, but it didn't help, so I bagged my run after 5 miles and went home and iced it. :sad2::sad2: It feels somewhat better now, but was painful and inflamed for several hours.

So instead of ramping up this week, I'm going to take a few days (weeks??) off from running until the pain is completely gone. I'll do some bike riding and stretches, and a running friend also suggested doing some leg strengthening. Does anyone know how long I should give it until I ease back into running again? I don't want to mess with my Achilles!

This has definitely made me reconsider my plans to do the Beach to Bell in September - i.e. 2 half marathons 2 weeks apart. At this point, I think it would be prudent to skip the VA Beach Marathon, and just concentrate on being healthy and ready for the Philadelphia Distance Run.

Any thoughts or tips would be appreciated. This is the first time I have dealt with an injury! It stinks!

Rest, stretching and ice is all I can suggest. I am lucky enough not the have had any Achilles problems but I know how a layoff is terrible. I am having a problem with some tendinitis in my arm which is keeping me out of the gym. I would rather the arm problem than the leg I guess but it is terrible.

I hope you can make both runs, I am going for the beach to bell myself so I'll be there for both. I'm not sure if there will be a meet at all, maybe one of us should start a thread.

I went out and got in a short run tonight, 4 miles. It was 90% percent humidity even after the sun went down so it was not the most pleasant run of the summer but it felt good to sweat it out. I am going to do another short run tomorrow, rest, and then I will be doing my longest continuous run ever, around 14.25 Thursday. I may head down to our local national park tomorrow to get in a trail run, it depends on the weather and if I get up early enough to bring my running stuff to work.

Hey all. Here's an interesting event...the Spirit of Columbus virtual half-marathon. Check it out.

This morning I did some speed work....huff, puff, huff, puff. This all seemed easier when I was doing it in the winter! Anyway, I stuck it out and reqarded myself with my post-run chocolate milk.

Good morning. I had a great run this morning - I think warming up for a few minutes beforehand and then using my new inhaler is making a big difference in my breathing. Don't know why I never thought to take a walk before I begin running--but it sure seemed to help wake up sleepy muscles, seeing as I've been running before DH heads off to work.

Hope everyone has a Happy Tuesday!

Good Morning All!

Got in 4 miles last night and man was it steamy. Went pretty slow, but I got my miles in so I'm good with that!

Maura - I was going to do that race, but decided against it thinking I wouldn't get my mileage back up to the half distance and now the price is just too much for me for the half. Have a friend running it though so I'm debating on Volunteering or just going and cheering!

Mel - Again thanks for doing the short order. Been a member for over 3 years now and I really need some shirts. :thumbsup2

Kira - No suggestions, but just to rest. Hope you get better!

A quick flyby! It's that or I know Chris will get on my case if I don't post :lmao:

I skipped the weekend. It rained most of Saturday and ended up feeling lazy. Sunday I just prepped for the week but boy did those 2 days pay off....

I RAN FOR 2 MILES!!!! on the treadmill. I had a few minute warm-up and had to stop twice during the 1st mile to stretch but continued to run the rest with no walking breaks at a 13:04 (?) min/mile (4.6 on the TM). That 1st mile was rough. The 2nd was better and how weird is this... I felt like I could have continued running!!!! So I left the TM and did my core machines and then I was dragged back to the TM and RAN ANOTHER MILE!!!. Apparently the 13:04 pace and my legs get along... at least on the TM LOL

No miles/exercise for today. My day off. Tomorrow I am looking forward to running on the TM again :cool1: :woohoo:

Edited to say that the most I have ever run inside or out has been a continous 1 mile. Outside I've hit 12 and just under for a min/mile pace. So this was a HUGE milestone for me Woohoo!!!!!

Kira - Shoes might help. It depends what's causing it. DH finally went to teh ped and is getting orthodics made. Try your 2 sts of 3 days off with stretchign and icing adn see what happens. After that, you may want ot go to the doc. In the meantime, I'll see if dh has any other ideas. He's been dealing hwiht this for a while and has tired about evertying. Good luck!

Diane - Huge congrats on teh TM!

Maura - Hope that calf clears up for you!

Mel - Can I call your mom and beg her to stay with the kids for ToT? ;)

Chris - Any mileage in this heat and humidity is great!

Bibbity - Welcome!

FrenchDiane - Ugh, 10 straight nights of work? Not fun! If your body screams for a break, please listen. Hope you can get soem rest soon!

OK, I know I am leaving out many. I miss seeing all of you! If I waited unitl I had itme to cathc up with everyone, though, you'd neve see me again. :guilty:

:rotfl2: Yes!! Love that chocolate milk. I have to say that when I read that it was "the perfect recovery food," we ran right out and bought us some!! What a fabulous treat!

Hi all, been MIA again. Seems like the weekends are just too darned busy! Anyway, got my training walk in on Satuday, it was a "short" long week. Yesterday had a good (HOT) yoga/pilates session, and today is a 3 miler. Coming up on Saturday will be the 10 miler. I can't believe we're already at 26 days before the DL 1/2! :scared1: But I'm feeling really ready and I'm excited!

Thanks to everyone here for the support! I know that's what we're all here for, but it really is helping me feel more motivated and comfortable with the race!

Hello everyone! I'm back in Philly. We got Grandma home on Sunday and all set up. She seemed to be doing really good. My cousin and his wife have been staying there to help out my grandfather since they are on vacation for this week. I am so thankful that everyone is able to help. I feel guilty being in Philly and not being around every day to help and I feel even more guilty taking a vacation. Grandma is excited that I am taking DN to WDW though and she didn't even suggest that we cancel our trip.

A walker was supposed to be delivered to her yesterday which would will help her because she is able to get to the bathroom with assitance right now. She actually had breakfast at the table and sat down with us when we got there. I was good and didn't break down in front of her and only once when I was talking to her hospice nurse.

I'll hopefully get a run in tonight if it is not like soup outside. Yesterday was miserable at home. It too hot to do anything by the time I got back to Philly.

Thanks for everyone's thoughts and prayers!

Megan- Hospice is tough but I'm glad you are dealing with it. I feel you with the soup. I sucked it up and went out in it yesterday but I was so sweat soaked afterwards I could have filled a salt water aquarium.

I went out tonight on the bike and managed to just finish at above a 16mph rate (16.09) but I was excited because it was the first time I was ever able to post my cycling as "vigorous" on the president's challenge site. I think the fact that excited me makes me quite the dork.
