Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness.

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Have a great month WISHers!

It was 75 when I got home yesterday. 75! in MI! :cool1::cool1:

Dh and I went for our longest ride of the season. First 11 miles were awesome. Beautiful course around a lake. My effort adn cadence weere really consistent fr ome. yay! AT 11.3, we stopped for dinner. Our favorite way to work out. ;) Usually, though, we take the 3.5 mile route there. Was rreally happy with the great work out. Nothing stellar on teh way home, but it's also a more corwded area of bike path and an area where we don't like to be on the roads (and my tummy was full ;) ). So, all in all a very good night. I could tell that yoga adn core are really helping with my neck and shoulders. A results I never thought about. Yay!!! So good to have beautiful weather and a great work out!!!!

Great workout Carrie!!!!!

I know the weather is amazing. We are suppose to get up to 30 Saturday with the humidex. Not sure what that is in F. But hot:goodvibes

Wow April already!!!!!,

I am wearing shorts today! Okay, this is not training news, but those of us in the north are basking in near 80F weather and we intend to enjoy every minute of it. I have my ice cream maker on Alert status to crank something out this weekend (not literally crank--I don't have one of those)

Here's wishing great weather for all this weekend. I'm going to cycle outdoors for the first time. And there is the yard that needs some attention. Break out the beers!

Hi everyone! Sounds like there's good weather all over and just in time for the weekend! I finished my first 30K last Sunday. Didn't realize a lot of people run it as part of training for a marathon and Boston. So there were a lot of speedy runners there! Maura, Jennifer, Frank, you guys would have fit right in :) I did a race report, feel free to read it if you want (no pressure ;) ) http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=36033916&postcount=312 I'm just cutting and pasting and being lazy!

I haven't been running since. I still have some residual ankle pain which I'm now noticing even when I walk. I'm having it looked at this weekend so hopefully I can get the green light to get back to running. If so, I'll register for a 10K run at the end of the month. Otherwise my next race is a 5K in June so I'm not in a rush...

Kim - Does that mean you're going to open your pool this weekend?

Maura - Mmmm ice cream... Now I remember why I run!

Carrie - Great workout! I still keep meaning to add yoga into my workouts. I have some DVDs but would love to go to an actual class to make sure I'm doing all the poses correctly.

Have a great day everyone!

whoo-hoo! Warm weathr has arrived! Not that I do much training in it as I am pretty much strictly a TM person, but it sure is nice to see the sun shining and not need to wear a coat.

Vicki- I will check out the report.

Carrie- Sounds like a good workout. I haven't taken the bike out yet but I did buy some clipless peddles and shoes so I can't wait to try them out.

I went out and did just under 6 in the 80 degree heat. It drained me since I am used to the 40's and 50's (as I knew it would) but it felt good to get out into the heat and chug along at about 20 seconds a mile slower then normal.

It brought back memories of the CMM in Nashville last year :thumbsup2

I have a very hilly 5K in the Cleveland zoo on Saturday. Looking forward to seeing if the legs handle the hills better then they have in the past.

I hope all of you are having good weather-luck as well.

It was a fantastic day here on the North Coast! Summer-like. Got out for a bit on the scooter and walk on the path.

Frank, have you done the Parkersburg WV half? I'm looking at it and thinking...

Well, as it happens that is very likely going to be a half I do this year. I was looking for a half in a state I need for Half2run and for one that ends up being as inexpensive as possible and this one was the cheapest by almost half.

I probably won't decide until the summer but I would say it is about 85%-90% that I will end up doing it.

I ran Parkersburg this past August. It was hot and hilly. It was pretty funny in that there were mostly locals running it and a handful of Kenyans competing for prize money. You could definetely tell who was there to compete. It was a fun race; the whole Homecoming celebration was pretty cool.

Vicky Congrats on the 30k! My DH ran this race on the 100th anniversary back in '94. I have no memories of it, since I would have had the kids--all of 4 and 2 at the time.

Today is either rest or light swim...and maybe time to break out the grill!

Have a good weekend everyone.

Hi All
It's been a great week this week weather wise. Temps in the 70's and 80's. We actually hit 83 yesterday. Monday did 3 1/2 miles at a good pace. Wednesday I did 4 1/2 miles, I decided to do a little bit of walk/run throwing in a minute of running each 1/2 mile. So I ran for 8 minutes during the 4 1/2 miles. Yesterday I did almost 6 1/2 miles. I still haven't decided what I'm going to do next week. I think of going to start with 9 miles then see how I feel before decided if I want to go for 10 or not.

Another question. What do you think about doing a 5K the friday after a Sunday 1/2 marathon? A local christian radio station moved their 5K from the middle of June to May 21. That is the Friday after I do the Cleveland 1/2 marathon. I have done 2 of the 3 5k's they have held and want to continue to make it a tradition of support the station. Right now, I'm thinking about signing up of the 5K but using it as a recovery walk and not trying for a PR. Am I crazy for even trying it that quickly?

It depends. When I finished my first couple of halves I took about a week off. Now I take 3 or 4 days. If your legs feel ok by Friday there is no reason you can't do, especially if you are willing to go slower then normal. It just comes down to how fast you recover which comes down to your training base.

If they have same day signup it isn't a problem since you can make the call the night before or that morning.

Frank, I saw your post about feeling a bit drained after 6 in the new warmer temps. Thanks for that! Now I don't feel too bad...

The week of St Patty's I had a pretty good week. Hit 20 miles for the week. YAY! 2 days later sick. Mizzy sick. That took a good week to go away and then the following week was getting back on my feet and allergies.

So yesterday is my 1st day back out after a swift kick in the running shorts from DH. 4 miles just at the local park. It was very warm and grant it I've already run in a nicer temps but I guess post-cold and add in the higher temps it really kicked my tush.

Tonight it's the gym. Bag packed and sitting behind me. :thumbsup2 If I can't keep up on other threads I'm going to at least try to stay current on this one. Need to get back in the swing of things :upsidedow

Have a great day!!!!

Hi all!

I'm ready for warm weather but not the heat. It's supposed to be around mid-80's tomorrow. Not complaining...it's just that I melt in the heat. I want it to be a little cooler for a little longer. :teeth:

I dusted my bike off on Saturday and did 20 miles. I was so sore afterwards. Gotta get to the gym and do some spin classes (and weight training). I have really slacked off after the Goofy. I'm in talks with a personal trainer now. Maybe she can kick my rear and get it going. She just completed her first half-marthon a few weeks ago...finishing in a little under two hours. I'd like to finish in a little under three hours. That's my goal for the DL half! :thumbsup2

Vicki - congrats on the 30K! Awesome report!

Diane - Sounds like you are keeping up with your training. Going for Goofy # 2, eh? Good for you. I'll probably consider it for 2015. Gotta get that special medal. Maybe I can talk you into doing it again that year! :teeth:

Carrie - I always enjoy incorporating eating with riding. Makes it all worthwhile. :thumbsup2 A friend of mine belongs to a running club in Dallas. They always go out for breakfast after a long run on Saturdays. I wish we had something like that around here. By the way, I'm thinking of trying to find a spring tri I can do. I'm not sure if it will be this year, though. I haven't been in the water in a LONG time. I'm afraid I might sink. Ha!

Frank - do you enter biking events? We try to do a ride that is pretty popular in our area (well, about 5 hours away). It's called the Hotter 'N Hell. It's held in August (the reason for the name) - always nine days before Labor Day. I have yet to do the century ride but I am planning on doing the 100K this year. My favorite part about the ride is going through Shepard Air Force Base. The men & women on the base come out and cheer for us. It is truly amazing!

johde - as Frank said, if you feel OK, you should be good to go. There are some of us crazy enough to do three half-marathons, three weekends in a row (and many even crazier than that). :rolleyes1

Lily and Pat -:wave: I'm still working on Buffalo but I seriously doubt it will work out. :(

Kim - another Goofy for you, too, huh? Wow! Maybe the temps will be a little better this next year. However, we can officially say that we walked/ran in the sleet at WDW. That's a good story for years to come.

Maura - did you end up making the ice cream? Yummm!

geaux_half - on the events calendar, I see that you do quite a few races in the South. Have you ever participated in the Little Rock half? The 10th anniversary is coming up in 2012. I'm trying to get some WISHers down here to participate with me. :teeth:

Hope everyone has a great week!

Sounds like everyone has gotten some great training in! We managed to get 9.5 miles in on Sunday. The weather is finally starting to cooperate and just in time. The Indy 1/2 Marathon is only 30-some days away!!

Keep up the great work everyone!

Susie I ran Little Rock 1/2 back in 2007. I did OKC in the same year. Most of my 1/2 repeats have been races near Houston and of course Disney.

I ran on trails last Friday for the first time since November. It was a great day to be out there; nice weather and the dogwoods were in bloom. I hope to do all of my long runs on trails the next 2 months as my next 1/2 will be on trails near Cheyenne, Wyoming. Unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to do anything to simulate the altitude that I'll encounter out west.

Susie- I haven't entered any cycling events yet. I did do a cycling vacation in 2008 to Tuscany but I didn't finally buy a proper road bike until last September and didn't get a lot of time to ride it before winter hit. I got some clipless pedals and shoes a couple of weeks ago I need to get put on this weekend and I plan on getting the bike out to do finally do some miles.

Pat/Susie- OKC and Little Rock are the two I plan on hitting for my Half2run states.

I hit the gym for a bit after work and then went out for just under 6.5. The 70 degree temp and the sun already being set made it much more enjoyable then the 80 degree run in the cloudless sunny sky last week. I had a very hilly 5K at our zoo last weekend. It always zaps the times because of the terrain but I finished 5th overall and 1st in my age group. It was more a matter of loosing the least amount of time on the hills then gaining the most anywhere else.

This weekend I am volunteering for the local MS Walk which will get me my single day voucher for the Wine & Dine. Once that is done everything is all in order (and paid for) October.

Susie? Did I commit to that out load? :lmao: That is the goal and the plan so we shall see :thumbsup2. Awesome job the bike! I'm sure I've asked before (or I meant to, I am getting old so my memory is going LOL) what brand/style seat do you have? I hate mine so my bike (mtn) spends way to much time in the shed.

Vicki, I was reading your report and I think that is a very impressive time! WTG!!! How's the foot/ankle doing?

I made it to the gym last night. Did my usual circuit and followed it up with 2 miles on the TM grumbling and whining the entire way. That was the worst 2 miles in ages. Very annoying but such is life. Get sick. Don't run for 2 weeks pay the price.

Tonights goal. Run/walk. I'm sure there will tons of grumbling, I should probably wait till dark so no one sees (and identify) the crazy lady yelling at her legs. Or as I toss water bottle to the ground, kick it for good measure than have to chase it while ranting the entire way. Yup. I'm sure it's going to be a lovely night in the neighborhood. :rotfl:

Hope the weather and training is treating everyone well :flower3:

Susie - Past 2 years Scott ad nI have both been faster with our side stroke than our crawl. I'm sure you will be fine! Tri's are way fun!

Frank - DH just got clipless. I was close to thinking maybe I'd do ok in them (I'm terrified of falling). DH fell last night. :scared1: Yeah, I'm sticking to my baskets. :upsidedow

Did a 20-mile bike last night adn yoga this am. Both felt great!
