So I hear conflicting reports all the time about the Monte Cristo sandwich at DL. I didn't get to try it, and I'm wondering if it should be on my "must try" list in October. Why do you like/hate it? What's good about it? Have you had it once and loved it, and then a different time or place and found it to be not as good the second time?

Thanks!:hippie:

p.s. It's cracked me up a few times to see some posters on here spell it "Monte Crisco"... hmm... are you saying it's a bit greasy?

I like the cheese only ones they have at Cafe Orleans.. I cannot eat a whole one though. Not even if I'm starving. It's wayyy to rich for me.. Actually, DBF who is a very big eater can't even eat a whole one..

I need to be in the mood for them though..

I have heard mixed reviews. I have a good friend who swears it's pure heaven. :cloud9: I have another who swears the monte cristo is total sewage. :rotfl2: Personally, it sounds awful to me. :scared1:

You need to add the option "No way would I eat one". I won't lie I have never tried one and I never will. I am veggie so the BB one that has meat is out, and even the all cheese one doesn't sound all that good. I really have just no interest in eating a fried sandwhich with powdered sugar. I just don't like heavy fried foods

Saying that though my sister loves them. She likes the mix of flavors and thinks they are great.

Its a very unique thing that so many people either love it or hate it, I say give it a try if you are curious you might just like it.

I've never tasted one....I'm afraid of the swiss cheese!:rolleyes1

way too rich, did a number on my intestines and had to leave the park early. i had the meat ones, wife had the cheese and we both had the same problems. i wouldnt ever get a new one.

We love them...only the 3 cheese one ....DS11 got the one with meat and thought it was gross . and DS8 likes the pb&j one for kids! It's our traditional first lunch at DL!

I'm with the people above who would never try one...

I'm not a big cheese person. Give me Tillamook (brand) cheddar cheese or pepperjack and I'm a happy girl...

put all those "weird" cheeses and THEN deep fry?? Yikes!! Not for me!

But then, I've never been an adventurous eater! :)

Even though it's a heart attack in sandwich form, I love it. ;)

I am speaking on my fiance's behalf because he has let me use this account :)
He first tried the Monte Cristo last year and when I first saw it, I was also
hesitant. After trying it, I was pleasantly surprised of the combinations. The
sandwich along with the berry sauce that accompanied it was delicious. I say,
try it for yourself and get your own opinion on it. I say, eat it at Orleans Cafe
and not the Blue Bayou because it is a little bit more expensive.

You know, I'm not exactly sure how much it is but I say spend it. Life's too
short not to try new things :)

Hope all of you who try it for the first time enjoy it !!!

I had one at the Blue Bayou once, and was also ill the rest of the day. I will never eat one again! I didn't even eat it all, either!

It has almost 1,000 calories for one sandwich! Yikes!:scared1:

I looked it up the last time we were going to Disneyland.

I had one once, but it really did give me a tummy ache. It sort of sits in your stomach like a brick (and that's if your lucky!:scared: ). I could only eat half. So be careful--especially on a hot day. It could leave you feeling not so good. The last thing you want is to be feeling sick at DL.

I tend to like things at the Carnation Cafe, (salads, soups, sandwich) or even the Riverbelle Terrace. Hungry Bear is also pretty good. There is a take out place by Pirates that has bread bowls with gumbo and clam chowder, and those are wonderful!

At the Blue Bayou I usually get the crab legs--but they really aren't that great. Most of the food there is reallly salty and not so good. It is all about the ambiance.

It is my favorite meal at Disneyland. Of course, that is probably because of everything I associate with it - POTC is my favorite ride pirate: and I LOVE the Blue Bayou, just the thought of it makes me all smiley inside! :jumping1: The first time I had the Monte Cristo (note, no Crisco LOL!) was during a culmination of one of those "perfect" Disney trips that you have once or twice in a lifetime and spend the rest of your life trying to replicate. I had it a second time a few years later and it still made me very, very happy. To be honest, I don't know if anything could make me unhappy at Disneyland....:confused3

I had one when I went to Disney when I was very young, so I think that's why I like it. It's a memories thing. When I had my restaurant we served a Monte Cristo (much clamer version than Disney's) and it was very popular. That said, it is HEAVY, so I will split a plate with my daughter. I really want room for the key lime pie...

I think of it like crack cocaine......I might like it so why risk trying it ? I personally don't ever want to be tempted to eat so unhealthily.
