okay ...so we have PS (lunch) at blue bayou
and we know to get there a bit early and wait for a waterside table ...
but what to order?

i viewed the menu ... and i think i ~have~ to order the monte cristo but is it really THAT good?

what exactlly IS a monte cristo?
does anybody recall what it comes with?

thanks :sunny:

To the best of my recollection, the Monte Cristo is basically a ham & swiss cheese sandwich that is then battered and deep fried.

It comes with a side of some kind of jelly, and that's about it.

I found it to be "okay", but far too greasy for me.

The description from the above poster is correct. But I have to disagree and say that I think it is quite srumdiddlyomptious. :teeth: I've had quite a few times, and never once has it been bad. It is SOO yummy. However, if the sandwich doesn't really appeal to you, the chicken caesar salad is also very good at the BB.

:earsgirl:

Another Monte Cristo fan here! Split it if you can half is more than enough.

Love the Monte Cristo. Yes, it tastes good, but for me it more of a traditional thing. It's the signature dish of the Blue Bayou, and that's why I get it. I've never had one anywhere else, although I've seen it on a few menus. Its just one of those things that I have to have when I'm in Disneyland.

Don't get me wrong, I like the taste of the Monte Cristo. I just can't eat more than a few bites before the grease gets to me.

I like it too and I also consider it a tradition. I've only been twice but had to get it the second time. I hope to order it again sometime in the next year. It really is big though, two people could share. I love the atmospher at the Blue Bayou and if you have kids they give cute little paper pirate hats to them!

I loved it! It came with a side pasta salad that was pretty good. Definately try it! Its warm and gooey and just sinful! But then again...no food in Disneyland has calories...so go for it! It is definately huge - you could share it with someone and still be stuffed! Each half is about the size of a cheeseburger!

I am not a Monte Cristo fan, BUT, my oldest son LOVES them!! He always has to have someone join us so he can have someone to split the sandwich with him! LOL The pasta salad that comes with it is delish though!!

I'm a HUGE fan of Blue Bayou crab cakes with lobster sauce!! THey are sinful~
I also love the dressing on the house salad! YUM! And I always drink my weight in mint juleps! LOL :earboy2:

I've never had the Monte Cristo, but I've been with people who eat them as a tradition & love them. It's a signature sandwich at Blue Bayou.

I've had the chicken caesar salad for lunch, but normally, I have the jambalaya, which is a cajun rice meal w/shrimp, sausage, and maybe chicken (it's been awhile). It's really good.

You can also order the Mint Julep there, which is a refreshing lime drink with a hint of mint. A lot of people like it & some don't. I'm one of the ones who do like it, especially on a hot day.

One more negative vote on the Monte Cristo.

There might have been a time in my life when I was used to eating a lot of greasy foods that it would have been better. But after 4 or 5 bites, that was about all the deep fried taste I could manage. Both DW and I are pretty big eaters, but there was just too much deep fried taste for us - the breading to meat ratio was out of of proportion to us. We ended up tearing off the breading and just ate the ham.

But since the sandwich is a DL tradition, we had to try it once.

Had them last time we were there and yes they are very yummy:) We will be having them again on Mar 7th at 2pm:) My wife will order hers without the iceing sugar this time though.

I am a fan! Had it all three times I have been there. Have to admit, that the last time I ate it was when my system (body) had been eating alot more healthy and it was indeed greasy to me...........but what can I say, I would order ONLY the Monte Cristo and nothing else if and when I go again.

I love the Monte Cristo, but I'm another that can only eat about half (and I'm normally a big eater) My SO and I usually split a MC and an appetizer.

We've eaten at the Blue Bayou twice and both times my husband and I split the Monte Cristo and the Chicken Caesar Salad. Yum! Although I don't think I could eat the whole Monte Cristo myself. It is definitely greasy.

OMG!! I absolutely adore the Monte Cristo sandwich. I first had it in WDW in 1983. Wolfed the whole thing down by myself!!

I wish that was one of the "presents" they would send to FL for the 50th celebration! I sure do miss them.

I'm with the others, they are good, but I can't eat more than a quarter of one. Try the crab cakes - they are wonderful!!

Cheers,
Lisa

Icing sugar???
what on earth does that taste like on a ham sandwich??

& if you remember to ask to remove it, ,is it then bland?

:confused3
I am very confused if I should get one,, but its only a one shot deal (going to DL).. but do I want to waste my $$ if it really is yucky///////???

My fiance and I ate at the Blue Bayou for the first time last week and we both had the Monte Cristo! I really enjoyed it but my fiance thought it was way too greasy and fatty!! We also ate 2 dinners at the Blue Bayou on the same trip....I just LOVE the ambience!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yikes, I can't imagine eating a crabcake anywhere other than here in Maryland! We know our crabcakes, lol!
