Yes folks, that's right, I am about to embark on a new career. Yesterday was DS's Birthday Party. We had a barbeque scheduled. Well, Mother Nature decided that she did not wish to participate in this particular soiree. We awoke Sunday morning, to TORRENTIAL downpours, and winds up to about 25 mph. This is NOT boding well. Our backup plan A was to use the rental tent that the neighbors had. Nahhhhh, sometime after 3am, a pocket formed, filled with water, and a gust literally ripped the tent in two.
OK--on to plan B--we have a sunshade, popup type awning, canopy, picnic shelter type tent. It folds up and fits in a bag, and it is 10' by 12'. OK, we set this up, but the wind is going to send this thing across the yard, and down the street, even with the stakes. OK, so then DH and my father get the bright idea, to put weighted 5 gallon buckets at each corner, and tie them off. What will we fill them with, you ask? Well since it has been BUCKETING rain for the past 10 hours, and the water is pouring out of the gutter, we fill them there. So now we have buckets holding down the corner, and rope tied from the corners to various trees and deck posts, so that the yard looked like a ropes course from Outward Bound!
OK, no small children fell into the puddle/lake in my front yard, the tent did not blow away, and we actually managed to cook all the food, and DS did have a GREAT day. So all in all a pretty good day. So, should you need a party planned during a monsoon, or a hurricane, I'm your girl, just give a shout!
