Monorails to no longer operate during Evening Extra Magic Hours

But you still have the bus problem, gotta get to the TTC somehow to pick up your stolen car! But on that note, will the GF now cost as much as POP? If so, sign me up for reduced monorail hours!

We drive our car to the parks. My husband refuses to take the busses after a horrible vacation at POR several years ago(long story). I usually take the busses when I go to the parks without him as I am not crazy about driving in Orlando, so yes there are resort guests that take their car to the parks. Not everyone wants to eat on property either, think declining quality and increasing prices. We have started our day at MK and ended it at Epcot, and visa versa, on many occasions and did not move our car, we just jumped on the monorail.

We drive our car to all the parks too when we stay at a resort. We do it because our child has special needs. We walk from where ever we park into the park. Taking the ferry or monorail is convenient because we don't have to unpack and fold up his stroller. Plus the bus steps are very difficult for him to navigate down off the bus. It's really difficult to use the bus when it's just the two of us.

I've heard for years about "It costs $xx million per mile to expand the monorail." and "The new monorails at DL cost $xx million a piece." Cry me a freakin' river. IF I had a cash cow like WDW, I'd be feeding it until it puked... EVERY DAY.

The need for maintenance, and the fact that they are making this change does not mean that one caused the other. Or that they will in fact be making additional repairs that could not have otherwise been done without the reduction. If that were indeed the case, this change would not have been classified by Disney as a permanent change. It would be temporary until said maintenance was complete.

I think when you consider the fact that this came about just after them removing the characters at EMH and taking Flynn out of the Tangled meet & greet you see a pattern of them currently looking for ways to cut corners.

I really don't see the EMH as being long for this world. I absolutely agree with the PP who said fewer people will now stay becuase of the extra hassle getting back at the end of a VERY late night when they are most tired. Then somewhere down the line they will decide demand has diminished and they will end it.

Ultimately though, they still have a LOT of rooms to fill on a daily basis. And EMH has always been a great way of doing that. So it will be interesting to see how it all works out for them.

Didn't someone report that they called Disney and was told it would be for approx 1 year?
How many other trips have we all taken when our favorite attraction was temporarily closed for maintenance? Yes, even in summer time. HM, POC, Small World during my visits just off the top of my head. Disney isn't known for letting things fall into total disrepair. (That distinction goes to our local Six Flags!)

Sheesh, DCL has to take their ships out of service completely for around 4 weeks of dry dock every 2-3 years to do major engine work. painting the hull, guest area improvements and maintenance, etc. Like WDW, it's a 24/7/365 operation so there's just not enough down time to get it all done here and there.

As I said before, it will still be a great Disney trip but there's a possibility we might have some minor inconvenience on E-EMH night at Epcot. We have plenty of ADRs along the monorail resorts but none are later than 1 hour after park closing. I'm not losing sleep over it but I do hope they are able to get the whole sytem running well again. It's such an icon of WDW; it would break so many hearts to see it be done away with forever.

Cause then they'd start charging admission for those (I can't pick just one favourite expletive, sorry) trains. The day Disney does something that benefits customers more then their profit I will be .

If I am going to take the koolaid and believe that the reason for the time change is for maintenance the one reason I can see Disney doing it is for possible increase demand to transport people to MK when the fantasy land expansion opens next year.
They maybe repairing the problems the monorail have now than wait until next year.
Staying at the poly for 1st time at end of sept it's going to affect us for two nights one for mnsshp and one epcot eve emh.
After thinking about it only one tine because eve epoch emh I can catch monorail up to one hour epcot closing time to TTC and walk from there to poly

Keep in mind the hub is where cm's get the information that admittance to the parties starts at 7:00, not 4:00. They are not very clear on communication. I don't think they thought through the intent when they said events. Otherwise, they would not be waivering now. I guess we'll have to see in September. I doubt they will come out now and say it means parties, it will cut into their ticket sales. Doing some quick math, they probably take in at least $1,000,000 in ticket sales for a party.

NO, you won't take the monorail after Epcot EMHs. The monorail stops running one hour after REGULAR park hours. You will be taking a bus back to the Poly.

Remember not to get too upset and express too much frustration over the monorail having shut down early or you could get a ride in one of those white cars with the pretty lights on top that are outside the gate of each park. And I don't want to go to THAT resort.

Well, I don't have a preferred expletive (does 'freaking' count?); WDW isn't whining, or even complaining - although it appears we're making up for that lapse here ; and they're not looking for any sympathy or bleeding hearts, at least based on everything I've read.
I don't understand how replacing one form of transportation with another to/from four points for a few hours a night a few nights a week in any way equates to the Aesop fable cited, and I think anybody who read the fable would have to agree.

It's interesting that you consider Walt Disney World a 'cash cow'. Did you check the definition of that term before you posted?

I agree. Last year we really loved MVMCP and the parade was awesome, and I had planned on buying tickets for our trip this December, but not now .

I wonder if there's going to add an additional boat from the MK to the GF and Poly after closing time. You know they've been counting passengers on the Monorail during Extra Magic hours for some time now, as well as passengers on the boat from the MK to the GF and Poly as well.
