Monorails and boats inside the parks

Hello, my firts post here, and first trip to disney world...
Anyway, my question is regarding transportation inside the theme parks. The use of the monorails and the boats, are they free to use or are they just for the guests who are staying on-site (which we are not). Or do we have to walk everywhere?

Within the theme parks is it possible to travel by monorail or boat to the next theme park.

OK, here goes. Anyone going to a WDW park can use the WDW transportation (buses, boats, monorails).

For transportation between parks, the type of transportation varies. Let's see if I can summarize it:
MK -> EPCOT = Monorail
MK -> MGM, AK, DTD = bus
EPCOT -> MK = Monorail
EPCOT -> MGM = Boat via the international gateway between UK & France. You can also walk if you want
EPCOT -> AK, DTD = bus
MGM -> MK, AK, DTD = bus
MGM -> EPCOT = boat or you can walk
AK -> MK, EPCOT, MGM, DTD = bus

I just wanted to make a note - this sounds like your first trip, and maybe being from Manitoba you have more experience or heard more about Disneyland - it's not like DL where the two parks are just across a plaza from each other.

WDW on the other hand is a huge place - 47 square miles (121 square km). If you're staying offsite, you'll need to drive to get to the property, but then luckily, anyone visiting WDW can use the buses, boats and monorails. So if you want to start the day at one park and then go to another (park hopping) you don't have to move your car unless you want to.
