Hi,

I am going to ask what is probably going to sound like a really dumb question....but here goes. We are staying at WL and plan to boat over to CR to ride the monorail. Is it permissible to ride the monorail from resort to resort and to Epcot/MK without having any real purpose in mind? Or, do you have to exit at a specific location? I thought it would be nice to get a view of the land around MK and Epcot and the 3 resorts without exiting the monorail at a specific place. Thanks!:wave2:

You can ride the monorail as often and as long as you like!

We've ridden it several times just for the ride, our 3 yr old DD loves it!

If my parents didn't force me off I'd probably STILL be riding the monorail around, 2 years later. LOL. It's absolutely ok to ride the monorail for as long as you like with no purpose. Often on our last day we do a big loop after leaving the MK, because we always know it'll be about 2 years or so before we get to ride it again. Except for nights when there are serious problems with the monorail itself, we always do that our last night.

Riding the monorail is one of our favorite things to do. In fact that's why we named our homepage monorailgreen!

Even when we aren't staying on the monorail loop we usually take a ride around to do lunch at the Poly or Contemporary.

You can also ride in the front of the monorail with the conductor. Each platform has an area with a bench or seat (if there isn't a CM to ask) that you can wait to ride in the front.

We did it last trip. It was a neat experience. Kinda freaky though! You see this thin strip of track in front of you. I definitely recommend it!

I highly recommend trying to ride in the front on the loop from the Ticket and Transportation Center to Epcot. It's a long, and beautiful ride. You can have some great photo opps as you ride towards and around Spaceship Earth. Seat the people you want in the photos towards the front of the monorail, and on the right hand side of the forward motion of the monorail. The person sitting near the door on the left hand side won't have a good photo opp.

Definately request to ride in the front car with the driver. You may have to wait a train or two but it definately worth the wait. We even were awarded "Monorail Co-Pilot certificates!!! Most of the drivers are very friendly and provide all kinds of information. It's like having aprivate mini-tour. Please be aware that they only permit 4 people to ride in the front!! Have fun.

"Por favor mantega se alejado de las puertas"..... " Please stand clear of the doors".

Riding the Monorail

This was one of our things we did late at night, me and my son, after sis and mom went to bed. He loved the fact that the park was closed and we could still ride the rail vertually by ourselves.
Incredible memory for the both of us!

To quote the Archbishop of Canterbury in his sermon at the marriage of the Prince of Wales to Lady Diana Spencer, "this is the stuff that dreams are made of." My favourite travel guide writer and fellow Lutheran, Rick Steves, encourages travellers to search for the back door experiences while travelling. You have done just that!! I'm so tempted to take DD out for such a special evening during our first trip home to SSR in January. Could someone recommend a special treat for a 5-year old for afterwards?

On our first ever family trip to WDW, DS was 3. One night we let the kids pick what they wanted to do, DD was 6 she chose MK to do rides, DS picked "monorail and a cheeseburger". So he and I rode around, and around, and around, then got a cheeseburger and watched fireworks from our Poly balcony! It was great! Looking back, I am sooooo glad I let him do that even though part of me really wanted to go back to MK too!:sunny:

i just have to hear the door closing announcement and i know i'm back in the magic
in 6/02 on our last night there dw bodly asked platform crew about front ride, since it was late at night there were not any families waiting, finally got my longed for front ride, greatest way to close a wdw trip i could think of

The monorail was my 4 y/o ds's favorite ride on our last trip! Even better than Peter Pan, Pooh and Dumbo....:p

We rode the loop several times...he thought it was just great!!:teeth:

RoyalCanadian,

First, Thank you for your kind words.

Next, you might want to start a charm bracelet commemorating the first trip and give it to her at a special time - just you and her.
Disney sells charms in some of the deluxe resorts and at the parks in certain stores. The bracelet itself you probably would be better off getting at home.
Something like that she will have forever and could make for a Magical memory. Just my opinion.

Have Fun Planning!

I love the smell of the monorail ! as soon as we are on there, we really feel the Disney magic. We almost bought the model Monorail set last time we were at WDW.:smooth: I also saw this guy on TV who loved monorails so much he built one in his own backyard:crazy: :p

I had to call up and order the monorail set 2 weeks after we returned home. My two DGS's just love it! The monorail was their favorite ride in the parks!!

Yeah, wait what was that I just heard?

:Pinkbounc Thank you Zurg! Your post was so much fun that I e-mailed it to several people. When we are on the Monorail we have to make sure that our group is not too loud when we say the door warning with the announcer. :hyper:

Riding the monorail is a must for us even if we don't do anything else. And I too love the door announcement, I have it as my new email notification both at home and work. You should see people's reaction when they are in my office and an email arrives.:p
