do you consider the monorail a plus or minus to picking your resort. I would think the monorail resorts are the most popular choice due to convenience but its seems like I read a lot of posts about people feeling the opposite.

just curious on your thoughts??
:)

Picking for purchase?

Minus. I'd rather walk to 2 parks from BCV or BWV than take the monorail to one park. I find taking the monorail to Epcot inconvenient.

Monorail resort now include VGF plus the opening soon bungalows and villas at the Poly.

We own at BLT and I really love the location, besides being able to walk to the MK or monorail to two deluxe resorts plus a boat to WL, it a monorail to TTC. Also a boat ride to FT. Wilderness.

So, many great restaurants within striking distance without having to have tickets to the parks. You can stay at BLT and not go to the parks.

BLT - 3 pools, beautiful marina with boating, great restaurants and QS.

If you have younger children or love the MK then I think the monorail resort are prime....that why their points are more..plus they are newer.

I found the walk from DS to BWV and BCV long, as well as the boat ride. But I think that area is beautiful and the closeness to Epcot is great.

I think each resort and area has it pluses, like SSR and OKW being so close to DTD. And AKL with the beautiful animals!:thumbsup2

Depends on the dates. For food & wine, I would pick BWV or BCV. I liked VGF in May.

Exactly. If you have stroller age children, the walk to MK is awesome and it is nice ride to Epcot.

They are convenient for MK but not other places. That's where every resort has pluses and minuses and a lot just depends on where you like to spend your time.

Disney-Kim you asked me in another thread why I avoided the monorail. Rather then reply twice I'll reply here. I used to think they were really great. Quick and easy and in my DS's eyes another ride at Disney. But this was years ago.

Now when I have to ride one I find I am lucky to get air conditioning, they smell awful & I have been stuck more then once (though temporarily thank goodness). I cannot imagine getting stuck and baking up there in the Florida sun until they have you climb out the top :scared: . Or getting stuck after wishes when you are packed in like sardines :crowded: . They have had some serious breakdowns recently and are showing their age.

Personally for me I would take the BC any day over a monorail resort, monorail issues aside. But for me the BC is my home away from home.

Keep in mind my opinions are generally the opposite of most. I don't mind the bus system, I don't think AKL is "too far out", and I dislike the Poly pirate: .

I love BLT for the ability to walk to the MK. :)

I don't consider the monorail an advantage at all - it's faster to walk to the MK than it is to walk to the Contemporary monorail station. And IMO, it takes too long to get to and from EPCOT using the monorail. It's especially long going back to BLT from EPCOT. You have potentially two waits, plus the transfer and then 3 stops before you can get off at the CR and then the walk back to your room at BLT. I'd prefer a bus, although having to share a bus with other deluxe resorts is just as annoying as the bus sharing for the EPCOT resorts. Not sure why there are so many more complaints about the EPCOT resort buses than there are for the deluxe resorts. (Maybe I just don't see them).

I love BWV for the ability to walk to two parks and several good restaurants. IMO, it has the best transportation options for us. EPCOT is our favorite park.

I'm looking forward to giving SSR a try. I have a feeling the transportation options there are going to be very good after the DTD construction is completed.

We stayed at the Poly back in 2005 when I won a trip for four from McDonalds and we only took the monorail once to the MK. We would rather take the little boat that runs from the Poly to the GF and then to MK. It was much more enjoyable.

When we decided to finally purchase DVC, we bought our first contract at BWV without even seeing it because of the ability to walk to Epcot and DHS.

But everyone has to make up their own mind. Each resort has advantages and disadvantages that either work for you or they don't. That's why there is such a variety!

thank you for taking the time to post again. and to the others thank you.
I see the logic in all that you have said. Last time we stayed on teh monorail was Polynesian 2009 and it was wonderful..that being said things have changed and and not for the better as I read on and on.

The monorail was fast getting anywhere and walking to the TTC for the Epcot monorail was cake...now I realize this will be longer at GF and BLt as they can't walk to the TTC...kudos to Poly for that

so I now see the convenience and hassle of all.

I agree with all of you on the Epcot area and walking, we also love this as we love to dine at a lot of the fantastic restaurants in the area.

but...We will have our 6 yr old neice with us on this next trip and she won't be in a stroller but trying to cater to more what she will want...which is prob more MK ;)

For me the monorail is a minus. It is crowded and stops a lot (breaks down or is shut down). Getting to/from Epcot when we were at BLT was a hassle.

We own Boardwalk and I love Epcot, but I would choose a monorail resort almost any day (except when we go to SWW in May). To me, getting on the monorail says we are on vacation in Disney more than anything else.

Before this year I would said it was a plus. I consider it an attraction more than just transportation. But with all of the work being done on the monorail right now it is not very convenient nor reliable. Disney is even busing people to MK from VGF and the Poly.

Normally I would say that the monorail is an advantage as it opens up access to Epcot, and the other restaurants at the other MK resorts.

The monorail isn't a factor in what resort we pick. The two things i care about are locations with easy access to parks and the point costs for the rooms. For me BWV because of its location and standard cost rooms wins out big time.

Having said that i got arm twisted into trying out a bunch of new resorts this summer that we've never stayed at before. VGF BLT and BCV, but i'm stilll squeezing in BWV.

This is how we feel too.
