Monorail question

I have read in several guidebooks that when the lines at the MK monorail station are packed, if one desires to reach the TTC it is often quicker to take the line marked "Resorts" than the one that leads more "directly" to the TTC. Is this true?

People will take the resorts monorail, and get off at the Poly.
TTC is right next to it. Just walk over

Taking the resort monorail and getting off at the Poly doesn't make any sense since that means staying on for an extra stop. The resort monorail goes from MK to CR to TTC to Poly to GF and back to MK. Why not just get off at TTC?

The resort monorail is slower than the direct TTC monorail because of the stop at CR and the direct TTC monorail also comes more often because a loop is faster meaning it's back to pick up at MK sooner which adds to its speed. That being said, if the direct line is really backed up and the resort line isn't then it may be faster but also keep in mind that you can't get directly from one line to the other and would have to go back down the ramp and then up the resort monorail ramp to get to the other line. The exit is shared but the entrance isn't. If you can see before going up the ramp that it's really backed up then it may be worth going to the resort line but I'm not so sure there wouldn't be a line at the resort monorail as well.

Its really a hard call, there are so many factors that are involved from the number of trains on each line, line lengths etc etc.

I could really break it down and go into a huge amount of detail but the simplest thing to remember is the resort monorail does make a stop at the contemporary which will slow the trip down by about 2 - 3 minutes. Typically during a large exit at the end of the night there will be 3 - 4 trains on the express beam which usually causes a traffic hold just outside of the Polynesian while the train ahead moves out of TTC.

Typically during a exit the lines are much longer on the express side however they do move quicker. Sometimes Id day the express is quicker, sometimes the resort would be its just one of those deals where you have to see whats going on and how many trains are on each beam. At the end of the day the difference is probably very little for or against each side that its hardly even worth trying to figure out.

I tried that a couple of weeks ago, and the resorts side was just as crowded as the direct TTC line -- may have even been worse now that the word has spread about going that way. Sometimes the ferry has actually been easier for me (at least it's not uphill).

It's not so much even the word being out. CM's are pushing people over into the resort line especially if the line is quite a bit shorter.

I have always found the ferry to be faster. Most don't consider a slow moving boat to be the faster way but they can hold a huge number of people plus i am never in a hurry to leave the Magic Kingdom so i don't mind going the slow way.

I usually wait it out, they seem to run more frequently that the resort ones, but the ferry is also a great option.

I think what these guide books are saying is not true and I can speak from personal experience. I have been on the Resort Monorail a few times when the Magic Kingdom had just closed and while the line for the Express Monorail to the TTC has been long, another Monorail on that line always comes a lot faster then the next Resort Monorail. For example some times I have been sitting on the Resort Monorail at the Magic Kingdom station and saw two Express Monorails leave for the TTC, which keeps that line moving a lot faster. Plus before the Resort Monorail arrives at the TTC it then stops at the Contemporary, so then anyone going to the TTC needs to wait over there for other guests to get off and for those waiting to get on.

You have a very nice uphill walk once you get to the TTC

The only real time the lines are packed is after a parade or fireworks show. Other than that you don't wait too long and the trains come relatively quickly.
