Monorail Drink-A-Thon

Yes! The Rend/Trade DVC Board is AWEEESOME! Talk about a budget board!

We will be doing DVC a lot more...I can't wait to check out the studio next trip. If TheNerdyMinnie likes it then we will try to do 3 nights there in August.

1megmeg, I will definitely try Jiko. With all the good reviews I've read from my friends on this thread, how could I not? I'm going at the end of Sept (24-29) for my annual birthday trip... it's too bad we won't meet... Oxymoron or not, I spontaneously plan all the time!

WLL, I will give Cirque a try... I've heard so many good things and I'm sure my DD will love it. We actually dragged our butts to Barnum & Bailey at the AA Arena for her, and I'm sure that La Nouba will be galaxies beyond that show!

There is so much I want to do and I don't think I'll be able to schedule it all... even for a veteran like me, there is so much I haven't done at WDW (which suits me fine as it gives me excuses to plan more trips and use my points!). After my Oct trip, I'll have used all but 16 of my points for the year, which means that I'll have to borrow points to plan a birthday trip for DH in Feb (it's ok, I'll get brand new points Mar 1). I think I will postpone Dive Quest for that trip as a bday present for DH. I wanted to give him the Richard Petty driving experience but you have to be able to drive stick and, frankly, he's not that good at it... then again, blame it on his teacher (me) who has no patience.... I drove stick for 15 years before turning into minivan-mom... you should have seen him trying to drive my car from the hospital to the house after having our baby.... poor guy... he got better at it, but I'm not sure he'll cut it in a race car.... and he has not driven stick since I switched to automatic...

That's how we are staying at the Villas at the Wilderness Lodge for only $140 a night!

Cristy-DH and I decided a long time ago we will never go to a regular circus. I can't enjoy myself watching all those animals being forced to do unnatural tricks and stuff. That is how I justify the high price of Cirque...at least all those people CHOOSE to be there and are compensated for it. Hmmmm...although I do wonder about the little asian girls that do that cool trick with the juggling...they seem awfully young. I don't know if you know which act I am referring to, but it will probably be in the Cirque show in Sept. They are one of the best acts in the show!

ummm...I can't drive stick shift, either! That's ok...i tried a few times and I am over wanting to learn now. So you and your DH can dive? that is great...I have never learned how to do that. My DH used to do it often, but i think he needs to get recertified. You are soooo right...there are just too many things to do at WDW, and not enough time.

WLL, your DH doesn't need to get re-certified to dive again. If he's rusty, he can take a refresher course (much cheaper). I haven't gone diving in a few years by my DH is a fanatic... this time of year he's planning dives every other weekend (weather permitting). He's already gone 2-3 times this year and the season just started...

Luvthatduck - 3 days?! That's awesome! Have a fabulous trip! What sorts of lush activities (if any) do you have planned? Hehe!

Cristy - Awww, we'll be missing each other by just a couple of weeks. I hope you have a great birthday trip!! Crique is great! We saw it back in January and love it! We saw the Barnum and Bailey circus a couple of years ago because DH (just boyfriend at the time) had never been to the circus and really wanted to go. Cirque is infinitely better - well worth the price tag. I totally know what you mean about there being so much to do. I am a WDW veteran too, but even with the number of times I've been there's still things that I've never done or don't get to do as often as I'd like. For example, we've still never seen Wishes - we are going to remedy that during our September trip.

WLL- I might have to look into renting points. We'd love to stay at the BW sometime, but the regular resort room rate is a little high for us, but I think we could do the point rental price. Oh, I can't drive a stick either! DH has tried to teach me a number of times and I do okay toodling around the parking lot, but that's as far as I've ever gotten. Hehe!

Oh, did I mention that is IN THREE DAYS!!!! WHOOO HOOOOO!!!

We're heading over this weekend too, plan on spending a little time at Boardwalk for Father's day (gave my husband control of the plans) for ESPN (he loves his wings and beer) and to Big River Grille for the beer sampler. We are also going to Epcot on Monday and plan to do a modified "drinking around the world" (splitting drinks and skipping a couple countries) as our son will be with us. My son is very into the princesses (don't laugh - he is young, almost 4, thinks mommy looks like a princess ), so we will be having a princess lunch in Norway also.

MegMeg- Let me tell you...you must see Wishes. I cry EVERY TIME! And yes, do look into renting points. I can't believe I did not know about it before!

aidensmom-Awww...that is soooo cute that DS thinks you are a princess. Have fun this weekend! I would love to know how the princess lunch is. My DH and I LOVED Akershus for dinner BEFORE they made the changes and made it character...so I want to hear how the food is now.

Does the Hess station near BWI sell beer?

We won't have a car and I'm trying to figure out how to get some cold ones w/out paying and arm and a leg. I was gonna order from wegoshop, but they're closed the week we're going

I'm sure they do...but I know that they sell 6 packs, liqour, etc in the General Store *right* next to the Boardwalk Inn. It's the shop that has all the Disney stuff, pins, clothing, etc. Same store but all the way at the end, they have a refridgerator filled with cold ones.

Grumpy'n'Goofy - Hi! Yes, the Hess does sell beer, we've purchased it before! I can't remember how much it was, but I do remember that it was cheaper than the "on-resort" stores. Just an FYI (because I am not sure what the alcohol selling rules are in VA), but the Hess only has beer and wine (I think they have wine), no liquor. Gas stations/groceries stories don't sell liquor down here.

Beer and wine only. In VA you MUST purchase all alcohol besides beer, wine, and malt beverages at an ABC store. They are the only stores liscenced in VA to sell hard alcohol. Talk about a state-wide monolpoly!

The last time my husband and I undertook this fantasy excursion, we left the Magic Kingdom via boat for the Wilderness Lodge at about 3:00 in the afternoon. We had one drink at the WL pool, and then headed to the Territory Lounge (I think it opens at 4:00). We had drinks and nachos (not tasty - they have that 7-11 cheese sauce).

We got back on the boat, and headed to the Polynesian, for drinks and a delicious appetizer. We left Poly around 6:30.

Next was Mizner's at the Grand Floridian. We met some really fun people, and stayed for a couple until around 8:00.

We zipped over to the Contemporary, and found a seat at the bar in the California Grill. We ordered drinks and appetizers. Just as our food came, we watched Wishes - the seats are OK, but not like dinner at California Grill - people stood in front of us and so we couldn't see the fireworks great. We left at around 10:00, and walked back to the bus loading area. Apparently, since the park closed right after Wishes, we barely caught the last bus back to the Beach Club!!

The entire excursion - Magic Kingdom to Magic Kingdom - was about 6 hours. However, we did dawdle, met tons of people, and had more than one drink in a couple of places...

When we did it last December, we started at the Cali Grill at around 8:30 pm where we sat at the bar and ate dinner (and watched Wishes). Our bartender was fabulous so we stayed there a couple of hours. Then we moved to the Poly but only stayed there about 15 minutes (it was kind of blah ambiance that night). We then went to Mizner's at the GF and stayed another couple of hours. Again, we met great people and our bartender was top notch. We got back to the WL right around Midnight (just in time to pickup our DD who was at the Cub's Den).

My husband and I will be visiting WDW for the first time next week. We are very excited about doing this drinking tour. Which monorail bar should we start out at? We are staying at POR. Our date night away from the kids is the 25th, next Saturday. Looking for suggestions for newbies. Where to start and recommended not miss drinks.
