Monorail Drink-A-Thon

whoa, somehow i missed that you wrere leaving this week! I am so jealous! have fun!

And what is with all the beer drinkers on this thread? Lilly...DO NOT have a beer. Either have a Lapu Lapu or a Backscratcher. It is some wacky rum concoction with a FLOATER OF JACK DANIELS!!! Who invents these drink recipes? :confused3 I had one, and it was yummy...and came with a huuuuge wooden back scratcher as a garnish. It is still in the trunk of my car, and makes me smile every time I see it!

we have like 3 or 4 of those backscratchers...love those drinks, but sorry at the tambu lounge? nothing beats the pina colada :cool1:

they totally set the standard for pina coladas! :3dglasses

Oh man, those floaters were the death of me! :earboy2:
A little tip, you can ask for a floater of anything on any drink. It makes for a real good time :cool1:

Pina colada's are yummy. But try the Seven Seas at the Poly. You won't find it on the menu, they took it off a couple years ago. But you can still get it. If the bartender doesn't know how to make it, they have a handy little book with the recipe. Yum, yum! :drinking1

What's in a Seven Seas? And ... are the coladas made from scratch? I don't like the machine variety.

You know, for a while now I've been "defending" beer as my drink of choice and, voila!, today at least 4-5 people have posted they love beer! You see? I knew that there were other people in the world with the good sense (and taste) to enjoy a good brew! I am glad that I'm not alone....

I tried the Lapu Lapu and loved it but I didn't know about the pina coladas at Tambu Lounge. I don't order them anymore cuz not many people know how to make the right.... I'll try it on one of my trips.

WLL, I'm lucky that I get to go so often thanks to DVC. Last year was a fluke, going 4 times, and this year I worked hard during busy season to save money for WDW. But now, all our trips are through DVC. Also, in the past, I went to WDW a lot but didn't stay onsite cuz my parents live there (yea, yea, lucky girl!). We've been able to enjoy WDW in the good times and the bad... some years we couldn't afford it and went once a year... other years we could afford a bit more. The past few years have been very good to us and we're indeed blessed that we can afford it now. I want to enjoy life while we're still young and cherish the time I'm spending with my DD... soon enough she won't even want to be near me (I shudder at the thought), so I need to enjoy her NOW, when she thinks I'm the greatest!... Oh boy, I'm getting mushy... I better go have a beer....

I'm lovin this!

I thought I was the only one thinking of ways to sneak alcohol into a family resort and planned my vacations around a endless hours of happiness!

Now for my real questions ...

My neice and her BF are heading to SSR next week.

Should the bring their drivers licenses on the drink a thon or does the KTTW have their ages on it somehow?

What time should get get to the Poly if they want to watch the fireworks from the beach? Can they drink the Lapu Lapu on the beach?

Can't believe I have to wait til January to go!

-d

Pooh...are you quoting the old Tom T Hall song? OMG...a native Miamian who knows country music from the 70's? Did you jam to WWOK and WQAM like I did???? (ok, if you do not know what I am talking about , you must think I am a nut by now!)

whiskey's too rough
champagne costs too much
and vodka puts my mouth in gear

This little refrain
should help me expllain,
as a matter of fact, I like BEER!

Ok, so I have had 3 glasses of Pinot Grigio tonight...so what??? :guilty:

Hello Just Cruisin! You have met some like minded people on this thread! I would say they should take their licenses, just in case! And...I think the fireworks run along with park closing...so the time varies. If they are going soon, I think MK closes pretty late. I am sure someone else on this thread will be able to help more than I!

Cristy-believe me...I know what you mean. I get very sappy when I think about sharing these moments with DD. I dread the days when she wants to have nothing to do with me (teen years!!) I am hoping as time wears on, we will be able to go more and more often.

FOTM-Yeah...please tell us..inquiring minds wanna know...what is in a Seven Seas????

Maine jen...now, now...I am just tossing back my last glass of PG...so don't get me upset!

ahhhh-I don't order Pina Coladas very often...too many calories for not enough buzz!

nerdy-yeah, I guess I could order a floater on anything...I mean, I could never dream up something as wacky as JD on top of a rum drink! So anything I could make up would be fair game. :cheer2:

justcruisin: Yes, they should bring their licences. Their age is not on their resort ID and WDW bartenders do check! I am over 40 and had my age checked at the Dawa Bar at AK in December. There is also a rule of only one beverage per person. If one person goes up to get a drink and order 2 drinks they have to point out the other person who will be having the other drink. I have seen bartenders card the second person too. I think the 1 drink per person thing may be a state law.

Yes, you can bring your Lapu-lapus on the Poly beach for the fireworks. In fact, you can bring any drink out there as long as it's in a to-go cup. Hint: You can get a lapu-lapu for less if you skip the pineapple and just get it in a to-go cup. If you look at my Lush Trip Report here: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=7288761#post7288760 you'll see what I mean.

Hey, robinb, you're a big sci-fi fan, right? have you made your plans for Episode III? I was just looking at the times at the Muvico by my house for Saturday morning.... been debating whether to go tomorrow night...

Yes, I know, I'm a big geek... HUGE Star Wars fan.... if I told you now many times I've seen the 1st 3 movies, you wouldn't believe me....

I just booked my Fantasmic package for next weekend. We're going on Sat to MGM for Star Wars weekends (of course... never miss it) and decided to go see Fantasmic. We haven't seen it since DD was a little baby so I figured she would enjoy it now but I hate doing lines, and we gotta eat, right? We'll be eating at Mama Melrose... anyone eaten there?

A Seven Seas contains Myers Rum, Triple Sec, grenadine, bitters, sour mix and orange juice.

We got the recipe from one of the bartenders a couple years ago. He had to look it up, so he gave it to us. Problem is it never tastes as good at home as when you're sitting at the Tambu Lounge. :drinking1

Looking forward to having one in 36 days. But whose counting? ;)

I am a beer drinker too (and just about anything else that contains alcohol), but don't knock my wine!!! Nothing beats a good glass of Pinot Noir , especially while sitting outside the bakery in France in the World Showcase.

I could get into a whole debate over the beer vs. wine thing, but I won't. Some of us just know what's good for us. :teeth:

That must be a Disney thing. Bahama Mamas don't taste the same unless their free on a Disney ship either!

Hmm...do you think it's a sign when you're typing up a report at work and you're dreaming of a lapu-lapu and the song "Pink Elephants" comes on the Disney Radio Station you're listening to online??? :earboy2:

Please oh please let me join!!

So who else takes a cooler with them?
We leave Wednesday and I am already getting it ready....:)

I too want to join! I have been reading this thread since day one and just enjoying the heck out it; however, I have only gotten to page 57. Three more to go and still growing I am sure.

As far as a cooler: You bet nothing better then your own cooler sitting around the pool drinking a cold one. As a matter of fact, I am daydreaming of the day when we get to the Polynesian (another 21 days) sitting by *my* tiki hut at the quiet pool with cooler in one hand and a popped topped in the other.

Did someone one say Pinot???? :cool1:

Why is it that beer puts me to sleep, but wine just tastes good to me?? I love coming up with things to "celebrate" so I can have some champagne!! :teeth:

My favorite beer tho is the micro brewery beer!! Some of the beer around the world is just too good to pass up!! :drinking:

:rotfl2: wrong drinking smilie, that's what I get for thinking I remember the code!! :rotfl2: :drinking1

best beer in the world definitely goes to Wowzer's Wheat...seasonal beer at the big river brewery....only in the summer.

going to spend atleast 2 hours there on our trip in june for just that one beer.
