Monorail Drink-A-Thon

Make two loops. On the first, stop at the indoor bars (Outer Rim, Tambu, Mizners) then on the second loop hit the pool bars. You could make an afternoon out of it on a nice day.

Hi everyone! I'm at my in-laws between our two Disney sessions. We stayed 6 wonderful days at AKL and did the monorail tour on 12/18. We missed FINFAN since she came in pretty late pn 12/18 and were not able to hook up :(. I'm hoping that we can meet when we return to WDW on Monday.

We started our monorail tour at the CR and Outer Rim and hit the Polynesian right before Wishes. The Tambu Lounge was out of pineapples!!! so I only had a lapu and not a lapu-lapu. The good news was our drinks were discounted because of the lack of fruit. We watched Wishes from the beach and then ended up at Narcoossee's for drinks with flashing ice cubes. I have pictures, but I need to crop them and lower the resolution so they load quickly and I can't do that until I get home.

I hope that everyone is having a LUSH Holiday :).

This is my new favorite thread! People I can relate to!;) We're staying at BWV in Dec; but would really like to try the monorail loop for drinks on our kid free night. Our problem is getting ourselves back to our resort! BTW, you'll know us if you see us. We'll be the group of 12 drunks!
Sorry to sound judgemental, but I hope you don't let your kids see you wasted. :earseek:

dmonroe did say it was a "kid free night". Even if the kids see their parents a little tipsy from having an adult and kid-free good time it isn't the worst thing in the world! :earseek:

Robin-Sounds like a great time! How did you like the AKL? We absolutely loved it! I could spend my whole trip there and avoid the parks all together!

Lindsay-I am surprised that someone new to these boards would feel the need to hop on an established thread and be insulting. Sorry to sound judgemental....

DVCmember-Somehow I missed your post about the Primetime. I will have to check that out. I really want to check out Saratoga Springs Resort...haven't heard too much about that one...not as much fanfare with it's opening like other resorts. To me, the theming seems boring...but I know that might just be in my head...so I gotta see for myself!--Oh, and my little "story" about getting free drinks at WDW takes place at my beloved Territory Lounge. I was drinking sour apple martinis (I don't drink those anymore, too sweet) and we were having such a great conversation with the bartender. After I was done with my drink, I casually asked if there was any left in the shaker. (I always hate to watch bartenders overpour a drink in the martini shaker and dump out the excess.) The bartender gave me a sly smile and said, "Uh, yeah, sure...I have some left here" and proceeded to mix me a new, complimentary drink.

That sounds like my favorite bartender...One night I was there enjoying a glass of Pinot Gris and chatting with him about different wines and when my glass was just about empty, he poured me a new (full) glass of Chardonnay and said "Here, you've got to try this"...Now that is what I call Disney at it's finest...LOL

:cool1:

Sorry I offended. If you want your kids to see you "tipsy," it's you're call. I just wouldn't do it.

Aisleleven-I just read your post and could have sworn you posted his name. But then I looked again and it was gone. That was actually smart to remove it...don't want to get the poor guy in trouble! But I remember the name and will look for him! Heehee! :cool1:

Without getting too personal...what kind of work do you do that allows you to stay at the WL on a regular basis? I assume they set you up at that particular hotel? That is a perk I could definitely get used to!!!!

LOL...yes, I had a change of heart about posting his name...you never know who may be lurking about on the Disboards... :bitelip: We've actually become buddies and he has given me some great restaurant recommendations in Orlando (outside of Disney). I've been to a few of them with clients.

I'm in sales and have many accounts in Orlando and one of my big accounts is Disney. I live in South Florida and so I drive up and spend a night or two in Orlando every 4-6 weeks (give or take) so I stay at WL...It makes dealing with Disney a breeze and while it is a little inconvenient to get from Disney Property to some of my other accounts, it is worth it to stay in such a great hotel...Orlando hotels can really be hit or miss and as long it's not that much more expensive (and sometimes even less expensive with AP/Florida Res rates) to stay there then I will...It's a beautiful thing  Plus, as a single woman travelling alone, it is serious peace of mind knowing where I am staying is a safe place...

I'll be there again in a few weeks for the marathon (with friends) and then I have a few meetings set up while I'm up there so I don't have to drive back and forth...when will you be there next?

Well, that is a great perk. And you are so right about being safe!

I will be there at the end of this month (Jan26th-29th) and then I think DH and I will go just the two of us in May to celebrate our 8th wedding anniversary.

As you can see...I am in Weston...just west of you!

Actually, I am west too...I live in Parkland...so I am just north of you!!

LOL

Ahhhh...yes! Parkland is lovely! My DH and I were looking at lots to possibly build on up there. This was a few years ago...I grew up with horses and wanted my DD to have the same upbringing. Well, I really regret not jumping on it back then...no WAY we can afford a lot now! My parents live in West Boca...west of 441, in between Glades and Palmetto Park Road. I know the area well! hello neighbor!

(Ok, I have never actually heard anyone in Parkland say Howdy... heeheehee)

We should meet for drinks...lol...I know of a great bar with a great bartender...drats...it's in Orlando... ;)

WLL- when you said AHHH i thought he was back!!! :Pinkbounc , alas this is not the case :guilty: Has anyone heard from him?

Aisleven...BTW...what does your screen name mean???

I can't wait to be at the TL again soon! Have you ever stayed at AKL? that is a great place, also, and the restaurants are incredible!

PD-Well, I couldn't wait and I PMed ahhhhh and got the info I was looking for! But I wanted HIM to post and tell all about it...I didn't want to spill the secret! But I guess you can tell from the way i am "talking" what her answer was!

The answer to your first question is in a PM...lol

Yes, I have stayed at AKL once...ate breakfast at Boma...enjoyed it very much and went to a cooking class with my mom at Jiko's during the Food and Wine Festival...it was WONDERFUL!!!! A great class...To stay on topic, they had a wonderful wine paring with each course :drinking1

But my heart belongs to WL...

For all those who will be at WDW next week, I thought that it would be great to set up a time and place to meet. Since many of us have already planned the week out (even with the new EMH schedule change!), setting up a set time and place everyday would enable many people to get together. So, how does 3:00 every day at the R&C sound? I will be there on Tuesday with others to hoist a drink and "Toast our Troops" in respect of their courage and bravery.

Also, feel free to set up another time and place if you like. I don't mean to clutter everyone's schedule, but the more options available gives us all a better chance of getting together.

Hope to see you all next week!

Jim

p.s. I'll be easy to spot. I broke my toe last week, so I'll be the one limping!!!

I am in The World right now - hooray!! - and am planning to participate in the Monorail Drink-a-Thon on January 3rd. How does this "plan" sound?
1. Territory Lounge at Wilderness Lodge - 4:00 PM
2. Tambu Lounge at Polynesian - 5:45 PM
3. Mizner's Lounge at Grand Floridian - 7:30 PM
4. California Grill Lounge at Contemporary - 9:00 PM (for fireworks)

What do the experts out there think?? :-)
