Monorail Drink-A-Thon

I am in The World right now - hooray!! - and am planning to participate in the Monorail Drink-a-Thon on January 3rd. How does this "plan" sound?
1. Territory Lounge at Wilderness Lodge - 4:00 PM
2. Tambu Lounge at Polynesian - 5:45 PM
3. Mizner's Lounge at Grand Floridian - 7:30 PM
4. California Grill Lounge at Contemporary - 9:00 PM (for fireworks)
We stopped at three of the four lounges in early December. We found thought that the Territory Lounge had the best appetizers; the Tambu Lounge was really quite cozy and friendly; and Mizner's was quite crowded and difficult to find a table. If we were to do it again, we would start with the Tambu Lounge, then Mizner's, and end the evening at the Territory Lounge. Your only roadblock may be Mizner's at 7:30 P.M. :D

Ok, I got back from my Christmas at WL trip on Wednesday but have been totally out of commission with a bad case of the flu. Today is the first day I've been out of bed for any length of time.

My DH and I actually did the monorail drink-a-thon on our last night. Dropped DD7 at Cub's Den around 6 pm and took the boat to the CR. We had every intention of having a drink at the Outer Rim but felt really uncomfortable with all the kids lounging around waiting for Chef Mickey's. I'm not comfortable drinking alcohol around children (except maybe one beer or glass or wine) and I was in the mood for more of an adult atmosphere. So, in a whim, we decided to go to the Cali Grill desk and ask if they had anything open without a PS. They said they were booked but that we could go to the bar. We jumped at the opportunity and went upstairs. I was totally blown away by the view! We sat at the bar and had a great time with our bartender. We shared an incredible meal and drank the most wonderful wine (recommended by our bartender) who kept refilling our glasses at no charge.... wonderful man...

Then got on the monorail and went to the Tambu lounge. It was crowded but we found a couple of seats and had the lapu lapu. Didn't stay there long and got back on the monorail to GF and Mizner's lounge. We had some more wine (Mondavi this time for me... I forgot what DH had) and met some wonderful people. The atmosphere was great; the bartender was awesome and we had a wonderful time.

Our intention was to finish the night at Territory Lounge, but we got back around 11:30 pm and our generous bartenders had given us quite a fill so we were in no condition to continue drinking, so we picked up the little one and went to bed.

Next morning, ugh, not feeling good.... you see, we spent 2 nights at my mom's and she had a bad case of the flu, so between the very cold days at WDW (Christmas day was COLD and rainy) and the last night drinking, I guess my defenses went down and wham! I was sick, sick, sick.... We checked out on Tuesday but I was feeling so bad that we stayed one night at my mom's and came back home Wednesday... I've been in bed ever since, except for the doctor's visit on Thursday.

Overall, my best experience in the drink-a-thon was at the Cali Grill. I had heard many great things, but I still wasn't prepared for the view, the food and the service. Definitely a place we'd like to return to.... Mizner's Lounge was great too, very intimate and cozy.

Happy new year to all the lushes...and welcome back Cristy!

Sounds like a fabulous time! Did your DD7 have fun at the Cub's Den? I love the CG but have not been back there since our first family trip to WDW in 2000 (I think.) Funny, we loved our waiter and he kept refilling our glasses of wine at no charge. I think even the waiters pour out of the bottle there...as opposed to having to go to the bar and get drink orders filled. No liquor...just wine...I think...I am certainly not a CG expert. But now you have me thinking about a seat at the bar at CG one night! Sounds great!

I haven't been to the Tambu yet...maybe will try it this next trip. And I love Mizner's too!

I am so sorry you have been sick! It seems like everyone has been dealing with an illness the past few months! I myself had bronchitis, and now I have a terrible sore throat that will not go away. i was on anitbiotics but they did not help so I have a referral to go to an Ear Nose and Throat specialist. I want to be 100% for my WL trip at the end of this month!

Well, feel better soon! thanks for your "lush report!"

OK - I've seen this thread floating around for a while and never looked at it before now. I've glanced at the first and last pages, but skipped the middle 33. What is a LOTW? "Lush of the World"? (J/K - that was the only thing I could think of that fit)

Ok for some reason I stopped getting notified when people posted here! But WLL I'm very glad to hear about AHHHHh I cant wait for him to post the story. However I might have to have you PM me the story if he takes more than a week!!!
Aisleleven - What does your name mean? I was also a little curious!

LOL - I was afraid I was insulting you guys, but it fit the general mood.

My brother would love it - Beer around the World is a staple for each of his trips to Epcot.

I have a real dumb question........Are there are drink deals or happy hours at Walt Disney World?

My boyfriend and I were thinking about doing a few drinks at the various hotels within the monorail system. We'll be there January 16-22.

Thanks so much!

We drank around the ENTIRE World!! We arrived home at 5:00 AM today - what a bummer to go back to work!!

Here are some of the highlights:

Non-drinking: Segway Tour!!! It is awesome!! We will definitely do it again!

We spent a little of every night we were at MGM at Dad's Lounge at the Prime Time Diner. We love that bar, and enjoy the bartenders. We decided to collect a set of twelve light-up icecubes, so we had some drinking to do (especially since we actually had to drink 13, since hubby gave one of our cubes to an adorable little boy who couldn't afford one - cube, not drink!)
On two separate nights we got a drink to go, and walked through the Osborne lights, glowing!

We did the Epcot Drink Around the World Showcase on one afternoon, sharing a beer in each country.

We had a GREAT time at the Dawa bar in Animal Kingdom. We showed up at 3:00, and staked a place at the bar. We drank through the first time the parade passed, and then took a breather for pictures when the parade returned. We met some really fun girls, and so ended up staying until park closing!

Our Monorail Drink-a-Thon was great! We started at the Territory Lounge at 4:30. Although we enjoyed the atmosphere and drinks, the nachos were awful - that 7-11 cheese sauce, instead of real cheese. It was disappointing, because we asked about the cheese prior to ordering.

Next, we hit the Tambu lounge at the Polynesian. We had delicious drinks and egg rolls. Yummy!

Mizner's was a BLAST! We met so many people at the bar. We really had fun. However, no appetizers as Citricos is dark on Monday.

We ended at California Grill. We arrived just in time for the fireworks. The view wasn't great from the bar, as people stood in front of us. The place is so busy, the bartender isn't as fun, either. I LOVED my steak flatbread - this was my favorite appetizer of the night. We ended up leaving the bar at 10:30 and BARELY caught our bus back to the hotel (Magic Kingdom closed at 9:00, so we were lucky to find a bus!)

What a GREAT trip - I am so sad to have no other Disney trip planned!

Next time go to the Outer Rim Lounge next to the Concourse Steakhouse at the Contemporary. All of the fun bartenders work there!

Hey PD! well...he didn't really tell me a story about it...just that she said YESSSSS!

Disneyaholic-Sounds like a GREAT trip! I have never ordered food at the TL, but I have heard from others that is is not so good! I still have not been to Tambu, so I gotta check that out next trip. BTW...why don't you start planning another trip now? Even if it has to be a year away...just do it! One of my new year's resolutions is to ALWAYS have a WDW trip planned!

robinb-I saw on another thread you got the DDE card! Good for you! you are gonna have so much fun using that! I have it in a prominent place in my wallet and it makes me smile every time I open my wallet and see it!

brunette-robin is right...I WISH they had happy hour at the world!

cheyita-Good guess!

Aisle-Hello!!! beautiful day today, isn't it? :flower1:

No DDE card yet. I'm waiting for the next trip. I wish I had it last month ... we would have saved a boatload! My DH says ... only one trip to V&A pays for it. Gotta love that man. Except ... all my pictures are on his laptop somewhere in downstart illinois. I'm hoping to move them tomorrow so I can write up my DATW trip report.

DisneyaHolic23: We also did the Segway Tour. Ours was on 12/30 and it was a blast! I want one now ;). Did you notice that your feet and legs hurt after the tour? That was the only thing I didn't expect since you are essentially standing in one place the whole time. I put my pin on my vest and had a number of CMs come up and talk to me. We did take it easy on the drinks the night before since we figured we needed our balance! :moped:

Awwww! Do ya have to rub it in????? :guilty:

Oh well...I hope you see your favorite bartender there! You can tell him to epect us at the end of January and we will take good care of him!

You are running in the marathon, correct? good luck! Think of those nice cold drinks waiting for you to keep you motivated!!! :Pinkbounc
Hey, by any small chance...do you know the room numbers that are in the "bear face" section of the WL? I want to request a courtyard room with the view looking STRAIGHT OUT to the lake...you know what I mean, right? I may have to post that question on the WL thread...so no worries if you do not know the answer!

Have fun and have a drink for me! DH and I are not going out to dinner OR drinking any alcohol til we get to the WL! That makes us look forward to the trip even more!

Sorry...but I'm starting to get excited!!! It's been nearly a month since I've been there...I'm going through withdrawls...lol

Yes, I am doing the marathon...thanks for the luck...they will have beer at mile 22 or 23...hello carbs!!! LOL :cheer2: :drinking:

Hmmm...don't know about the room numbers...my rooms are generally the ones looking over the lobby...I did have room 2129 and that had was an inside courtview but it was a king bed room so I don't know that will help you much...

I'll tell our buddy to keep an eye out for ya...and if you don't mind, I'll just leave my tab and you can pick it up for me when you get there...LOL

princess: :drinking1

LOL! I don't THINK so! I have a feeling you can really rack up a bill at TL! LOL!

So do you mean that your room's ENTRANCE door faces the lobby? So then what does your balcony face? Just curious... I have never had one of those rooms...I am wondering if they are standard view (and what exactly IS a standard view there?) or woods view or what!
