DH and I are headed down for an anniversary trip next month.

We had contemplated doing the Highway in the Sky Dine Around, instead, we've decided to do our own.

We would like to both eat and drink :) Mostly likely will start in the evening. Tossing around doing an actual main course somewhere (like they do on the dine around). Maybe fireworks or electrical parade viewing along the way. We're staying at the poly, so we could start or end there. Not opposed to a WL stop.

Not that we're wanting to throw money away, but not overly concerned with the budget (since we're willing to spend $300+ for the event through Disney). Just want to have a fun memorable evening.

I wonder who else has done something similar? What are your ideas? Or what would you want to do? Any food or drinks we should be sure not to miss?

One limitation will be getting a reservation at a nice restaurant for a "main" a month out. Have you checked to even see what might be available?

Sounds like fun. If you want an ADR for a main course stop - you could probably get one at Grand Floridian Cafe or The Wave even on short notice.

Yea, I'm not opposed to The Wave. We've eaten there before and enjoyed. I was considering Narcoossee's or Citricos. I do see availability at Narcoossee's. We've done CG Grill, we weren't overly impressed with the food itself.

Dinner at Artist Point, cocktails then go to trader sams at poly by boat, and monorail to gf mizners lounge then to contemporary for more drinks and maybe dessert at at cg. That's what we did and it was such a good time!

I was going to suggest the Wave for the main course as well. I'd start with beverages at Mizners. Wrap up with a night cap at Trader Sam's.

That does sound like fun! That's a good idea, to do dessert at CG. Did you make an ADR or do the bar?

No you don't need an ADR for the bar, but getting up to this very small bar at dessert time is not likely. It gets very crowded and they will not let you up if it is full

Allow time for security now that you will have to pass bag check at every monorail station.

Like others - I would shy away from an ADR just because there are so many moving pieces.

I did a self-made monorail crawl with my sister recently - instead of a progressive dinner, we did small plates and adult beverages at each stop:
  • The Wave (Contemporary) - Bacon and Eggs (YUM) and local beers
  • Mizner's Lounge (GF) - Arancini and Cocktails
  • Trader Sam's Tiki Terrace (Poly) - Chicken Lettuce Cups, Kahlua Pork Tacos and Tiki Drinks
We watched the water pagent and Wishes from Trader Sam's along with a round of beers and Dole Whips (we asked if they served them and the server said no, but told us where to go and get them to bring back, which I thought was nice touch).

There are number of bars where you don't need ADRs and can get good food at the monorail stops: Mizner's (Citricos' kitchen), Tambu Lounge (Kona Cafe Menu), Narcoosees, Wave, Cali Grill (haven't done this one yet and sounds like the most difficult to get into), and probably others that I haven't discovered yet...

Great suggestions! Sounds like a fun time. I'm gonna have to look into that bacon and eggs app for sure!

We're doing the following on the last day of our upcoming trip with no stop for a main

Trader Sam's 3:30 (to line up if needed)

Funny you mention Geyser Point. After seeing their brisket dip, I really feel the need to work it in, haha. I was thinking of starting there. Then maybe boating to CR???

Yeah, that brisket dip sounds yummy and if somehow someway you could get it and the Oregon Fondu from Territory Lounge on the same table :tigger:. Would settle for back to back over a cold beer or two at each place.

We just got back and did this and it was tons of fun! We were staying at the Poly and started with our 7 year old at Trader Sam's at 4pm. We got there at 3:40 and there were already 30 people ahead of us lined up to get in. Everyone was handed a pager and called in at 4. It only seats about 40 so I'm glad we lined up early. My wife and I both got the HippopotoMai-Tai with the souvenir glass and our daughter got the Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki NO-Rum.

After that we dropped our little one off at Lilo's Playhouse (She LOVED it by the way!) and went to the bar at Narcoosee's. Highly recommend this one. We both got a glass of La Giaretta Amarone Valpolicella and a split an order of Shrimp and Grits. Atmosphere, food and service (Thanks Sergio!) were top notch.

Next stop was Geyser Point at the Wilderness Lodge. I went with a Space Dust IPA and my wife had a very tasty Black Cherry Mule. We shared the Barbecue Brisket Dip and an order of Edamame. Had to sit at the bar since the loungers and tables were all full. We loved the open air atmosphere and would definitely return in the future.

Next up was the Territory Lounge for 2 glasses of Oregon Pinot and an order of Crispy Asian Chicken Wings. This was also a great spot but I was feeling a bit happy at this time and don't remember many of the finer details :-)

We had planed to stop at the Contemporary but our plans changed after we got upgraded from a Concierge Garden View to a full on Theme Park View at the Poly. 2nd year in a row that happened and the exact same room #3507 so we decided to get back in time for Wishes. The night ended with this view. DSC_6388aa.JPG

Thanks for all who helped me with my request for this same topic last month!

The brisket dip and smoked shrimp were how it made it on our list!

We're at epcot in the morning, then WL bus from Epcot and then we have to decide between a cab to Poly or Boat to MK then Boat to Poly.
