Monorail Collision in WDW

I totally agree. I know that if I was a monorail pilot, there is no way they could get me to drive the purple one.

That would be a good idea but chances are they won't spend $6 million to buy a new monorail especially when the rest of the train was left intact. They'll most likely replace the cabs that were damaged on Monorails Pink and Purple and but they back in operation. It would be nice to see the colors or the monorails themselves retired but that most likely won't happen.

Yeahh. It's like, no matter how much they fix it up from the crash&what not...someone still died operating in there. It's morbid :/
Yeah. Its sickening.

I could never do it.

But maybe they will just replace the pilot's cabins, but still. Your driving the monorail that someone got killed on.

Yeah, but is there anyway they could just survive without that train? I know they have extra monorails.
Yeah. Its sickening.

Exactly. It's not even like I'd be scared that I'd get in a crash too, it's just spooky.

They could probably put it in the service area when they don't need it but if other trains are down and they need it. It'll probably be out there.

idk, maybe when it comes time for them to replace the fleet, they might not make a new monorail purple. hopefully anyway.

i think disney really should retire that monorail. i really think they will but with Disney you never know. now with getting rid of the whole monorail system i think will be a bad move. the bus system already stinks and imagine all the people waiting for transportation to the 3 resorts and TTC.

Tom i really like your black ribbon in your sig. :thumbsup2
Travis. do you think thats the offical cause?

Kinda doubt that. Same with removing the system. The system is very safe, it was a very unfortunate accident probably caused by human error. There have been accidents in the past that could have resulted worse than this one but didn't. There wouldn't be any reason to shut down the system especially considering it's alreadly been reopened.

I think the monorail should be retired all together.

Can you imagine another monorail pilot operating the same monorail in the same cabin where a fellow cast member died?

lolollol i swear. i read that first as wanting the monorail (as in the entire fleet) to be retired. you shouldve seen my face. O__O "NOES!"

im really liking the idea of them retiring purple, and making it light purple (a lavender color) instead. i looked up the meanings of lavender and lilac (since they are both pretty close) and this is what i got: enchantment, imaginary, visionary, youthful innocence, and daydreamer. things that fit disney just fine. :]

From everything I've been reading it seems like thats the official cause. The pink monorail needed to head back to the monorail shed but the switch to the other track never happened. So the pink monorail went in reverse, thinking it was on the track to switch to the magic kingdom track, but instead was continuing in reverse on the epcot track (heading back to the TTC station). And then that's when it met up with the purple monorail.

I was thinking, "Oh how can the pink monorail not know its going in reverse on the epcot track?" But after looking at the diagram, you can see that the epcot track and the track that switches to the magic kingdom track are dramatically similar, they both have the same type of turn. And with it being in the middle of the night, and the monorail driver being at the other end of the monorail, it's hard to tell what track you are on.

its so sad. :sad2: i cant believe it. he was so young. and he said it was his dream job...

Agreed. (and I only meant the purple monorail not the whole monorail system. that would be a mess!)

& thanks! :)

Austin was an amazing CM.
I had an experience with him back in late February or early March while waiting for a monorail at the Grand Floridian. He was on the platform and it was me and my mom along with another family. He asked everyone where they were from. When we said Orlando he laughed and he asked my name, age, and if I could drive yet (I'm 17). I don't know how to drive, so he handed me his keys and radio and told me I was going to drive the monorail, then pretended to walk away. xD We were taking the monorail to Epcot so once it came he got on and drove us there. You could just tell he absolutely loved his job as a monorail pilot.
Out of all the CM's that work on the monorail, he was the one that I remembered most and I always hoped that I would run into him again someday.
RIP Austin, you will be greatly, greatly missed. Whenever I'm on the monorail I will think of you and say a prayer.

Awee :( I was wondering if anyone had an experience with him.
He seemed like one of the CM's who REALLY wanted to give a magical experience & have fun with the guests!

It happened because The monorail system had the signal that said it could go and the other monorail came and they got in a crash.

Awe :( I feel so bad for him!
I wonder how the monorail controller person feels, since I'm pretty positive it was their fault :/

I know, I would feel terrible. :/
They said it appears to be human error so I agree. Whoever was supposed to switch the track/make sure it was switched correctly screwed up somewhere I guess and cleared the pink monorail to go. It's such a shame. :(

RIP Austin. :sad1:
I've been praying for his family and friends...god this is just been such a horrible situation. I agree with everyone that purple should be retired.

Wow, wouldn't you hate to be the person who gave pink the go ahead and wasn't paying attention? That person will have to live with the guilt of basically killing someone for the rest of their life.
