Money saving tips we used.

I recently wrote a blog post on saving money in Walt Disney World but you guys are awesome. Lots of good stuff on here that I didn't think about. Thanks for the great tips.

Quick funny story: About 15 years ago, I took my nieces to Disneyland. We didn't have much money. We drove and slept in the car in a WalMart parking lot during from Canada to Anaheim. Our hotel didn't have anything but a coffee maker. You'd be surprised at what you can make with a coffee maker. We put wieners in the coffee pot and perculate water (without coffee of course). This will heat the wieners and presto, hot dogs! We also ran water through the coffee maker and use the hot water for ramen noodels, instant mac and cheese and cup-of-soup.

Fortunately we don't have to go to such extreme measures anymore but fond memories of the crazy things we did to save a few bucks.

One tip is something we did last time. Seems like a no-brainer but a lot of people say they hadn't thought of it. We brought one BPA-free water bottle for each of us (empty) in our luggage. This is what we used in the park every day. We filled it at the water fountains around the park. We never bought a bottled water from the parks. We washed them in the hotel room as needed.

My husband carried around a backpack with the water bottles, maps etc. We also brought our own snacks - peanut butter crackers, etc. to bring every day too. Also breakfast foods for the kids to eat in the room etc.

We bought princess costumes at Costco (not official Disney, but they looked close enough) just after Hallowe'en for huge savings. We then hid them and brought them with us in our luggage. The morning of our DDs princess breakfast at Akershus, rather then shelling out big bucks for Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, we gave them the costumes and DW did their hair and make-up for them. It worked out even better, since the bus driver made an announcement to everyone else on the bus when we got on, that "they were in the presence of Royalty this morning" and that they needed to be on their best behaviour. Really made our DDs day.

All fantastic tips! Something that you all might consider is renting a refrigerator for rooms (if you don't already have one) because Peapod and other grocery delivery services deliver to resorts. You can order online and not have to waste a day at the store! :cool1:

All WDW resort rooms now have fridges.

Not sure if anyone mentioned ordering a case of bottled water. It's far less expensive to order a case and have it shipped to the resort than to buy individual bottles in the parks or restaurants. Last time I ordered from Costco and it was $7 for a case of 24. Same rule applies if you have a car and can either bring from home or go offsite to make the purchase.

I was not sure if all the rooms had them. Thanks for clarifying!
