Since no one wants to tackle my crystal through security question...I'll try one that at least one person has tried to in the past month...has anyone been stopped and questioned about your pressed penny money in the M&M tubes? I'd hate to think that I've spent all that time cleaning the pennies, sorting them into quarter, quarter, penny order, and putting them neatly in their tubes only to have security dump them out in front of everyone and then the fear of all fears, have to explain to security why I have done such an anal thing!!

Thanks guys!

Hmmm...I travel a fair bit and have never seen anyone with money in an M&M tube, LOL. My best advice is to take them out of your bag and put them into the bucket at security so that it is clear to them that they are innocent items. I can't promise they won't open them, but I do think it's unlikely that they will make you dump them out.

I haven't tried getting an M&M tube through airport security but I am always questioned about in when I go to our federal courthouse to file papers. It will probably raise a red flag at the airport too.

I always carry quarters, dimes and nickels in empty film canisters while traveling for tolls, vending machines, etc.
Usually going through security what happens is they really take the time to eye-ball my purse as it goes thru x-ray, and sometimes they pull my purse aside to get a look at them.

ROTFLMBO, that was good, thank you!!! :hyper:

I know that my rolls of quarters have caused a little commotion at the screener's. Is there enough room in the canister to put the quarter-penny, quarter-penny coins in a clear baggie, wrapped around the roll of coins tightly, and then stuff it down into the canister? Or just in the baggie and then transfer it to the canister at WDW?

I always put ours in film canisters, and we've never been questioned (carry-on luggage).

I've examined every possible scenario and factored in my extremely bad luck and have decided to just give it a shot. I don't want to put them in my checked bags because when we get to DW, we will be doing early check-in and leaving the bags to head to the parks and I won't have access/nerves won't let me remember to get them before we leave for the parks. I could but them in baggies, but then I'll be given the third degree as to why I have these empty canisters. I debated just buying three new tubes and making my family eat them on the way and then filling them when we get there, but here again, nervousness/excitedness will factor in and I'll forget. Besides, people on the plane will be looking at me funny when I'm organizing and re-organizing these coins 20 times to make sure their right.

It's a catch-22, my OCD won't let me arrive unprepared and my social anxiety disorder is frightened of actually having to explain it to strangers. In the end, I've decided the OCD is the stronger demon. Then again, I could just make my Mom carry it and she can explain!!

There will be NO problem putting your coins in M&M tubes, film canisters, in your purse or anywhere else. The TSA is used to seeing change, they even know what it is. :) In fact, you could probably put your crystal in the top of one of the tubes and you will have saved two problems in one swipe.

I was stopped. I had my M&Ms tube with the "2 quarters/1 penny" stack. This was in Syracuse, NY. It was flagged for a more intense screening. I mentioned to them it was probably my change tube but, of course, they do ignore you to do their own evaluations. They still ended up taking out everything and looked into the tube. When they handed my bag back they said it was the tube of change they had difficulty with. Big surprise. It only took a couple of extra minutes. Besides, my dad was stopped because he had metal shanks in his shoes so I didn't feel so bad for holding up everyone else. On the way home, there wasn't really a lot of change left so there was no problem with the screening in Orlando. Don't worry about it.

I was stopped at the TF Green Airport in Providence in march of 01 or 02 because I had a bunch of change all together in a change purse and it was in the bottom of my backpack and they kept putting the bag through. They couldn't figure it out til they had me take out different things and when I pulled out the change they ok we know know what it was!!!
