I am trying to get my HHI reservation figured out and looking at all ways to make this work.

I just called to see about doing a search for my dates since we are in need of changing our dates and Disney does not have any availability.

Anyway- I was looking on the RCI site provided by DVC and the Monarch which is a Marriott resort I believe is listed. I thought the Marriott resorts are not included in RCI. Can someone explain this to me?:confused3

There are a number of older Marriott resorts in RCI. Monarch, Heritage, Harbour Club, Desert Springs, Royals Palms, Sabel Palms, Cypress Harbour, and part of Vail are in RCI. Monarch is the only HH Marriott resort on the DVC list that is listed with both II and RCI. Too bad for Golfers as Heritage gets free golf for 2.

Thanks Dean! I had a feeling you might be the one to answer this question.

I put in the request but not sure it will happen.

Monarch is really close to the water. I doubt resorts can even be built that close to the water now days. :)

We stayed at the Monarch two summers ago on a trial for Marriott Vacation Club - 3 nights in a 2 bedroom in July for something like 150$

The rooms are really big and luxurious - much nicer than DVC - but the resort itself is disappointing. It has one very small pool, no onsite dining at all, minimal activities. There is a walkway to the beach, but very few rooms with views of the ocean. I don't think I'd want to use points to stay there.

I have an acquaintance that I just found out from my daughter who owns there and was just there. Why they own in winter, I have no idea but will have to ask as well as how it's looking now. Realize it is more the old school 2 BR set up with twin beds in the second. There is also ONE 3 BR unit, it is huge and very nice. I almost bought a week there for Xmas in the 3 BR but given the fees were over a $1000 7 or 8 years ago, it's likely a good think I didn't.

Funny to hear you say that as the rooms there are actually fairly small by Marriott standards. It was being built when Marriott bought it.

Oh, I thought the rooms were really nice - we toured Surfwatch and it did not strike me as significantly larger or prettier rooms - and we have 2 kids, so the twin beds in the 2nd bedroom work well for us.

But I did not like the resort itself because it felt like an apartment complex not a resort. I really like the inclusive nature of DVCs - even HHI feels inclusive because of Shelter Cove. I love checking in and not getting in my car again until check out.

I'm thinking they are around 1200 sq ft or just over. If I recall correctly, Barony is 1270, SW is 1275 and GO is 1380. I haven't seen Monarch units since the last big overhaul and I understand they upgraded it significantly. There are quite a few ocean front/ocean view units but as a rule, exchangers get the garden view units.
