Sorry this took so long to post. Ive got a lengthy excuse about how bad work has been since I got back, but you dont want to hear that. You just want to hear about our trip. Right?
CAST: Me (47) and DH (43). He hasnt gone with me to Orlando since 2001. So Ive spent a few years going solo.
SHOW: We used the Neverlost GPS system (that we nicknamed Shirley) in our Hertz rental car to navigate as we got closer to the PBH. But poor Shirley had a difficult time finding the PBH. It was pretty funny to follow her directions and then when she says you have arrived at your destination to look up and see a job applicants enter here sign. Fortunately, we were able to navigate back to the hotel.
I could tell my DH was impressed with the PBH but I could also tell that he was getting sicker and sicker with a bad cold. Unfortunately, the woman at the front desk said our room wasnt ready but she expected that it would be ready soon and that they would call my husbands cell phone as soon as we could get into our room. She said that if we didnt hear anything by 4:00 PM to come back to the front desk to check. She also said we couldnt get a suite because we had already gotten a free upgrade (Im a Loews gold card holder). Hmmm?
So we walked around the hotel a little bit and then went to Sals. My DH LOVES pizza and he was very impressed with it. A small one was the perfect size for the two of us. The whole time we were eating I was hoping my DHs cell phone would ring because I could see he was fading fast. Unfortunately, there was no call from the front desk so we wandered around some more and ended up at the Villa pool.
We had the whole pool area to ourselves. Ok, it was a little cold but the sun was very warm. And the music there is so beautiful. We stretched out on a couple of lounge chairs and relaxed for an hour or so.
Then we went to the lobby and waited for the cell phone to ring. While we were waiting we overheard a guy on his cell phone talking about how lousy the internet connection was. He didnt specify where but I was starting to get really worried. My DHs only condition for the vacation was that I book hotels that had high-speed internet connections so he could check in at work.
The guy on the cell phone was also talking about a new attraction that they were testing based on Fear Factor. He was very much against it because it would be too difficult to script and he didnt know who the target audience was going to be. Im not sure who they are but I sure thought that was very interesting!
By 3:30 PM I got so frustrated that I went to the front desk. The room was ready and they didnt apologize for not calling us. I was so upset but didnt say anything. I just wanted to get my DH into the room so he could rest.
We got room 2412 on the 4th floor of the Villa wing. We had a view of a tree. Oh well, I love those PBH deluxe rooms especially the bathrooms.
We didnt have any robes in the closet. So when the bellboy came with the bags I asked him about it. He directed me to the phone and said there are two important buttons on the phone. He pressed the star button and asked to have two robes delivered for us. Then he forgot to say what the other important button was. I never did figure it out.
The robes were delivered but one had a big mustard stain on it. So when the guy delivered the welcome gift of fruit and water, my DH told him he wanted fluffier robes that werent dirty. Ive never seen my DH get upset like that. Now I knew he was sick. They delivered a couple of clean robes but they were the standard waffle-weave kind not fluffy terry cloth. Fortunately my DH was sound asleep by that time.
I spent the evening watching my DH sleep and feeding him aspirin and other cold drugs and finishing the book I had started on the plane. Not the way I had expected to spend our first day at the beautiful and romantic PBH. Oh well .
P.S. The high-speed internet connection at the PBH worked great.
