Moms to be Part 4

Oh and this is probably another stupid question, but I was wondering....why does the internal exam at the end hurt so much? I keep hearing women say it hurts and such. I just can't figure out why!

TarzansKat - We have a 2 Nautilus's...one in each car and DD loves it (we do too). And they seem to have a longer expiration date on them so you will probably be able to use it for the baby too.

Well I had my 20 week ultrasound this morning and everything seemed good. Of course the ultrasound person doesn't tell you squat, but everything seemed to all be measuring consistently and looked fine to my untrained eye. DD went and enjoyed it the first - oh 5 minutes - then got bored. The good news is she is still a she :) Although the tech did tell me to bring the baby by the day after she is born and he can tell me boy or girl with 100% certainty....funny guy.

Ok now I'm feeling REALLY stupid today and totally unprepared! There's expirations on car seats?? I had no idea!! :confused3 Why and how long do they normally last?

Glad your 20 week u/s went well! That's pretty funny what the tech said. At least he was nice even though he wasn't really talketivie during the u/s.

I think it hurts so much as the only way to measure is by the Dr trying to stick their finger or fingers into the opening of the cervix. If the opening is smaller than the finger it can be uncomfortable if they try to hard.

Oh ok...so what are they measuring? Checking to see if the cervix is dilated at all?

Are you guys tired of my questions yet?? LOL

They are measuring how dilated you are, or how wide the cervix is open. I never had any pain with them, but they could be uncomfortable.

Most carseats have an expiration date of either 5 or 6 years from their manufacture date. I think the nautilus is 6 years when using the harness plus another 3 years on the booster part. (I need to check though)

Most seats will easily last through one child....it's when you get into the second child that you might run into it expiring. For example...I had given my DD's infant seat away, but even if I hadn't it would be expired now for the new baby. (Of course I don't think most people have 7 years between children) I do think the baby will be able to use the Nautilus's some though because I didn't get them until DD outgrew her Marathons and I wanted to keep her harnessed longer.

I honestly don't remember having an external exam late in pregnancy with DD, but I'm sure I did so it must not have been too terrible.

Well ladies after debating skipping the infant seat and going straight to the convertible seat - only to find out the one I had with DD and loved really isn't suitable for a newborn and considering an infant seat again I think I have finally made a decision. I think I'm going to go with The First Years True Fit Premier for the baby. It will be perfect. The bottom slots are lower than a Marathon and the top slots are higher. It also has a 65 pound limit forward facing (which DD was too tall long before she ever outgrew her Marathons by weight - heck she could still use them by weight now) It has a 7 year life instead of 6 and is less expensive and really less expensive than buying marathons and an infant seat and multiple bases. I just have to run it by DH and then decide if I should go ahead and get one now and then wait a month or two to get the second one and then wait another couple of months (or longer) to get the third one for my mom's car. DH asked me about registering this morning and I told him we could do that anytime that even if we don't have a shower (which I'm pretty sure I will have one at work anyway) that the discount at the end would be helpful. I started one at BRU online, but don't have much on there yet. So far I have a breast pump - which I debated about because it's so expensive, breastmilk storage bottles, an Ergo Carrier along with the newborn insert and that's pretty much it. I need to go through all DD's things before we really do the registry. The above things are items I either rented or didn't have with DD and know I will need or really appreciate using. I can't believe I am at the halway mark already!

Tarzanskat: I am trying to work until the end, but I keep finding reasons to leave the office in the middle of the day or a little early. It is just too tiring to sit here 10 hours! Good luck with your casseat, and enjoy your rest during your NST today!

I can tell you right now, if I had to make it through ten hour days, I'd be done. :lmao:

I work part time, but it's not so much the work, it's that in the bank, the teller chairs are really high so we can reach over our stations and the up/down out of the chair, back/forth to do things, it's just getting to be too much when I have soooo much pressure in my lower stomach anyway.

Once I get into a sitting position, I just don't want to move! :lmao:

They have been measuring me since about 20 weeks. I measured 31 weeks at my 28 weeks appointment. But I measured big all through with my DD so I kind of expected that.

Interesting. I'm glad you weighed in, because I couldn't remember when my doc started measuring me. :goodvibes

Thanks for sharing! I think I'm going to go ahead and order one, because at this point, it's highly possible that the baby could use it to, because of the longer expiration. And even if he can't, it's still not that pricey, I found it for $139.99 at Walmart with a $10 e gift card with purchase. :thumbsup2

Oh, a wise guy, huh? ;)

Glad to hear everything went well, and I know how you feel. My DS enjoys the ultrasound for a few minutes and then is asking, are we done yet?

Depending on the manufacturer, anywhere between 5-6 years.

Although, with Nautilus, I do think it has that extra three years as a Booster, but you won't need that for a while. :goodvibes

Yeah, I just worked 3 nine hour days and decided that was it, I'm done. I had planned to work until Friday, but I'm just too pooped. Funny thing is, last night I slept better than I have in weeks. I wonder if going on leave eased enough stress that I could actually sleep.

Ah ok. Well, I guess just like everything, the pain of that exam depends on the woman. Guess I'll find out when the time comes.

Oh ok, so is the expiration date printed on the car seat somewhere I would imagine? The travel system I registered for the car seat goes up to a pretty good weight but I'm sure my kid will grow too long before the weight is hit.

Glad you figured out what to do with your car seat issue. And yay for a registry!! I can't wait to start getting things off of mine!!:thumbsup2

Cool! Thanks for the info! You guys are lifesavers! I never would have known if it hadn't of been for the discussions on this board. Now I'm thankful that so many of you are farther along than me. :thumbsup2

The expiration date may not be printed on it but the manufacture date will definitely be on it somewhere and the manual would tell you how long it is good for in that case. If you registered for a travel system you can rest easy knowing that the baby will most definitely outgrow the seat LONG before it expires. If you have a second baby there's a chance it would still be good for that one too. (Unless you're like me and wait until the baby is 5 to start trying for #2 and then it take well over a year to conceive)

Ladies I cannot focus on work. I am so jealous of you guys that are close enough to start leave already. Of course I have an absolute TON of stuff to get done in the next 38 weeks or so. Oh....but I am sorry that you are so miserable right now. I have just started being a little uncomfortable and having a little bit of swelling now and then.

I am really uncomfortable today. Baby feels like he is putting a lot of pressure on me. My Dr said to call if I have more than 6 BH in an hour and a lot of pressure and they will do an ultrasound and make sure I'm not too effaced or dialated. Right now I am having 3-5 per hour, usually 1-2 painful. I don't want to look like an idiot by calling and having it just be normal discomfort...but I also don't want to try to be a hero and having something happen because of it. Then I would look even stupider. Right now I'm just waiting, hoping I don't get to six an hour!

Tarzanskat: I just sit at work as well, nothing too strenuous. It is hard just to sit in a spot for so long though so I know how you feel. Sometimes I think maybe I could just stretch out and lie down on the floor for a while...then I see how gross the carpet is and change my mind!

Nette: Glad you got to start leave early and were able to get a good night's sleep!

We thought of getting just a regular carseat as well since we didn't want a travel system, but decided to start with the infant seat simply because it will be easier for somethings like going out to eat or to the store...we can just leave him in that if he is asleep! I was really torn on what to do, though!

have a great day everyone!

Hi Everyone -- I just wanted to introduce myself and join in the group! My name is Lauren, and I'm pregnant with my first baby. I'm due on February 4. I just had my first doctor's appointment yesterday, and she said that everything looks good. My husband and I have basically no experience with babies (although I do know a little bit more than he does -- he thought babies started to crawl when they were about 2 weeks old )!

I'm pretty lucky in that I really haven't had any morning sickness, but I am exhausted at all times. I've cut back my work schedule to 32 hours a week for at least the next month because I've been so tired. Yesterday I took a 2 hour nap in the afternoon after my appointment and still went to bed at 8:40! My hour commute to work doesn't help at all, but luckily the supervisors here have been so nice.

Anyways, I've been lurking for a few weeks, but I didn't want t join until I had my doctor's appointment. Everyone seems so helpful and non-alarmist:goodvibes. I looked at some other message boards, but they either seemed scary and full of doom or filled with teen moms. I'm sure I'll have tons of questions in the coming months.

Welcome lspst8!

I called my Dr office this morning. I had so much pressure I was feeling sick and nauseous. I have to go in for an ultrasound at 1:45 today. I am not too concerned. I think everything is fine and will feel better once we see for sure. Nevertheless, I am keeping my fingers crossed!

Didn't get to schedule my RCS. My OB had a death in her family so I saw the NP again. July 15th is the date to schedule now.

Sorta disappointing though I don't think I'll have any issue getting the morning that I want.

Uhhhh..... I'm not sure how good of an idea staying home alone was. All I've done is eat all day. Cereal, giant fruit and yogurt smoothie. Then for lunch tortilla chips with melted cheese on them plus red & yellow bell peppers w/ blue cheese dressing, and now ice cream. :rotfl: Good god, I'm gonna gain another 10 lbs.

My u/s went well. Baby is head down and appears to be about 4.5 lbs! My fluid level is on the low side of normal so they are repeating the u/s this Wed. I hope and pray it does not drop. I had the same problem with DD, but it was discovered later in the pregnancy and I was induced at 38 weeks. I am almost 33 weeks right now so I am really hoping that I don't get put on bed rest. Of course there are worse things but I have no idea how I will manage an active 3 yr old!!!
