TarzansKat - We have a 2 Nautilus's...one in each car and DD loves it (we do too). And they seem to have a longer expiration date on them so you will probably be able to use it for the baby too.
Well I had my 20 week ultrasound this morning and everything seemed good. Of course the ultrasound person doesn't tell you squat, but everything seemed to all be measuring consistently and looked fine to my untrained eye. DD went and enjoyed it the first - oh 5 minutes - then got bored. The good news is she is still a sheAlthough the tech did tell me to bring the baby by the day after she is born and he can tell me boy or girl with 100% certainty....funny guy.
Oh and this is probably another stupid question, but I was wondering....why does the internal exam at the end hurt so much? I keep hearing women say it hurts and such. I just can't figure out why!
I think it hurts so much as the only way to measure is by the Dr trying to stick their finger or fingers into the opening of the cervix. If the opening is smaller than the finger it can be uncomfortable if they try to hard.
Ok now I'm feeling REALLY stupid today and totally unprepared! There's expirations on car seats?? I had no idea!!Why and how long do they normally last?
Glad your 20 week u/s went well! That's pretty funny what the tech said. At least he was nice even though he wasn't really talketivie during the u/s.
Tarzanskat: I am trying to work until the end, but I keep finding reasons to leave the office in the middle of the day or a little early. It is just too tiring to sit here 10 hours! Good luck with your casseat, and enjoy your rest during your NST today!
They have been measuring me since about 20 weeks. I measured 31 weeks at my 28 weeks appointment. But I measured big all through with my DD so I kind of expected that.

I can tell you right now, if I had to make it through ten hour days, I'd be done.![]()
They are measuring how dilated you are, or how wide the cervix is open. I never had any pain with them, but they could be uncomfortable.
Most carseats have an expiration date of either 5 or 6 years from their manufacture date. I think the nautilus is 6 years when using the harness plus another 3 years on the booster part. (I need to check though)
Most seats will easily last through one child....it's when you get into the second child that you might run into it expiring. For example...I had given my DD's infant seat away, but even if I hadn't it would be expired now for the new baby. (Of course I don't think most people have 7 years between children) I do think the baby will be able to use the Nautilus's some though because I didn't get them until DD outgrew her Marathons and I wanted to keep her harnessed longer.
I honestly don't remember having an external exam late in pregnancy with DD, but I'm sure I did so it must not have been too terrible.
Well ladies after debating skipping the infant seat and going straight to the convertible seat - only to find out the one I had with DD and loved really isn't suitable for a newborn and considering an infant seat again I think I have finally made a decision. I think I'm going to go with The First Years True Fit Premier for the baby. It will be perfect. The bottom slots are lower than a Marathon and the top slots are higher. It also has a 65 pound limit forward facing (which DD was too tall long before she ever outgrew her Marathons by weight - heck she could still use them by weight now) It has a 7 year life instead of 6 and is less expensive and really less expensive than buying marathons and an infant seat and multiple bases. I just have to run it by DH and then decide if I should go ahead and get one now and then wait a month or two to get the second one and then wait another couple of months (or longer) to get the third one for my mom's car. DH asked me about registering this morning and I told him we could do that anytime that even if we don't have a shower (which I'm pretty sure I will have one at work anyway) that the discount at the end would be helpful. I started one at BRU online, but don't have much on there yet. So far I have a breast pump - which I debated about because it's so expensive, breastmilk storage bottles, an Ergo Carrier along with the newborn insert and that's pretty much it. I need to go through all DD's things before we really do the registry. The above things are items I either rented or didn't have with DD and know I will need or really appreciate using. I can't believe I am at the halway mark already!
Depending on the manufacturer, anywhere between 5-6 years.
Although, with Nautilus, I do think it has that extra three years as a Booster, but you won't need that for a while.![]()
Oh ok, so is the expiration date printed on the car seat somewhere I would imagine? The travel system I registered for the car seat goes up to a pretty good weight but I'm sure my kid will grow too long before the weight is hit.
Hi Everyone -- I just wanted to introduce myself and join in the group! My name is Lauren, and I'm pregnant with my first baby. I'm due on February 4. I just had my first doctor's appointment yesterday, and she said that everything looks good. My husband and I have basically no experience with babies (although I do know a little bit more than he does -- he thought babies started to crawl when they were about 2 weeks old)!
I'm pretty lucky in that I really haven't had any morning sickness, but I am exhausted at all times. I've cut back my work schedule to 32 hours a week for at least the next month because I've been so tired. Yesterday I took a 2 hour nap in the afternoon after my appointment and still went to bed at 8:40! My hour commute to work doesn't help at all, but luckily the supervisors here have been so nice.
Anyways, I've been lurking for a few weeks, but I didn't want t join until I had my doctor's appointment. Everyone seems so helpful and non-alarmist. I looked at some other message boards, but they either seemed scary and full of doom or filled with teen moms. I'm sure I'll have tons of questions in the coming months.
