Moms to be Part 4

I saw her post on another thread not too long ago (earlier this week). She has been kind of MIA around here. I hope that we didn't do anything to chase her off... Her post on the other thread seemed to indicate that she was doing ok.

Oh good, glad to saw her post on another thread.....thanks :)

I was put on bedrest last week, and for anyone who has been confined to bed, you know that it is definitely not all it's cracked up to be, especially with a toddler running around. But, went to see the peri today and was told modified bedrest would be ok. :thumbsup2 Thankfully the baby is doing great, and is still measuring about 2 weeks ahead. According to the u/s estimates, the little one weighs 5 1/2 pounds already!! I know that these measurements aren't always accurate, but with my last PG, they were right on with my DS's weight. So, I'm really hoping to make it to 36 weeks, and 37 would be fantastic. Keeping my fingers crossed. :)

Bedrest is a pain, but at least you're both still healthy! :thumbsup2

RCS is scheduled for 7/6... I'm supposed to go to my pre-op appt tomorrow... Not sure why it's so early.

Maybe because of the long holiday weekend :confused3

The room that is going to be the nursery is painted dark blue with a galaxy painted on the ceiling right now - not exactly what I had pictured for a little girl!

Definitely not - but it would go perfectly with my DS3's space themed room!

.... random question, for everyone. You know the mattress springs has the bars that pull out and attack to the legs. Is there any reason you couldn't have those bars below the springs? I know traditionally you put the springs below, to where the springs are hanging from the bars, but it just made the mattress SO stinking low. I wasn't sure I'd be able to bend to get him out after the c-section, so DH took it off and redid the bars to where they were holding the springs up above them.
It's almost ridiculously high now but will be fine for a newborn, we'll just have to adjust a lot sooner. Probably after I heal up from the RCS.

I think the other ladies are right that it sounds like your DH moved it to the newborn position, and you will want to move it down when baby starts sitting up. When DH put DS1's crib together the 1st time, he put the mattress on the lowest setting, and it was just awful for me trying to reach way down there after the c-section!

On another note, I thought for a few minutes this morning that my water had "broken". I was going potty, and it just kept dripping. Nothing like the steady stream last time... And certainly not a gush like my mom always claimed to have had with each of us... but a slow steady drip. Guess my bladder is just so crammed up that it takes a while to finish emptying cuz eventually the dripping stopped.

I've been having a feeling like that a few times already - scary the first time!

We just found out today that we are expecting...took 2 tests this morning and they confirmed we brought back a souvenir from Disney! :cool1: So can I join in on this club now?

Congratulations and welcome!! As for finding out, I'm another one that can't wait to find out, and lucky for me DH is the same way. When DD didn't really cooperate for our big u/s at 18 weeks, he agreed to go for a 3D just to be sure! :thumbsup2 I agree with the comment that finding out at 20 weeks is still a surprise, just one you find out sooner! It's a personal decision though, so whatever you two decide will still be fun!

Had anyone heard from Mrs. Charming? She usually posts a lot but I have not seen her in a while.....just hoping she is doing ok :)

I haven't seen her either, and I think she was the keeper of the list we haven't seen for awhile. I hope we didn't offend her somehow....

I have a question, forgive my stupidity...but how are the drop-side cribs harmful? looking at ours I don't see how it could fall, and even if it did how it could possibly hurt ds, and neither does dh. the whole crib would have to fall completely apart. I am just curious!

going back to the dr today! got to ask about some really painful bh contractions and about me losing weight...i am eating a lot and have lost 4 pouns this week, meaning i've only gained 17 pounds so far...not that i'm complaining but I don't want to harm ds!

I hope the dr has answers for you, it seems unusual to be losing weight at this stage, but I'm sure everything is ok!

I don't get the drop-side crib thing either, but it still makes me worry anyway. My mom has a really old drop-side crib, so old I used it when I was a baby. I'm ok with DS sleeping in it, because he's so big and she took a side off for him to use more like a toddler bed now. But I really don't want DD to use it as a newborn. I sent my mom a link to the recalls, but being that her crib is almost 30 years old, of course it's not on the list. She responded that she wouldn't want to buy a new crib since it's all the new cribs that are being recalled. :headache: I'm thinking about getting that $125 Graco one you are all talking about just so I would be more comfortable with DD staying there, but it's only once a week, so I just don't know. Plus, my little sister has a newer crib at her house that has only been used a few times (her ex-bf had a baby), so it would make so much more sense if sis would just let mom use the newer crib. But the two of them are full of so much drama that I'm sure that would never happen.

Girls, I got an e-mail today that all of the Trumpette disney socks and tights are on sale - they're all so adorable!! I had the Trumpette Johnny socks for DS and always got so many comments on how adorable they were - they also fit him for a really long time and are well made. I have been looking at some for DD, now I just have to decide which Disney ones to get!

I think you have to sign up to be able to access the sale, but it's free and they have lots of great sales! :thumbsup2

Thanks (everyone!) for the info about the newborn setting. I didn't even realize that existed. We never used it for DS1. Oh, well! It'll be a lot easier to get Owen in and out, that is for sure. I think the crib we have for Lucas is taller, but no biggie.

...and WHY did you have to post that website? Those are stinkin' adorable! I want several pair now. Ugh. What to choose? :confused3;)
(thanks, really :lmao:)

(ETA: BABBLE15 takes off 15%.... ;))

*eta again* haha, I got the 7-dwarf box set and a pair of the black mickey head socks (with the 1 red head). That way if DS1 can't wear the dwarf socks (he has big feet, lol) he'll still have a cute pair. You know, because he cares and all ;)

Ooh, thanks for the additional code, I am all over this now!

DS3 has jumbo feet too, lol (just like Daddy), and he had the infant socks that say they fit 0-12 months. I believe they fit him through 8 months or so, at least that's the last picture I can find of him wearing them! So I hope you got the 12-24 month size for Lucas.

We just found out today that we are expecting...took 2 tests this morning and they confirmed we brought back a souvenir from Disney! :cool1: So can I join in on this club now?

Just a little background...I'm Andrea (will turn 28 next Monday) and my husband is B.J. (32). I have a 4 year old (as of today) little boy named Connor from a previous marriage but my husband is a wonderful father to him! We live in Kentucky and are absolutely thrilled! This was our second month trying, so we are very excited that the process was short. He doesn't want to find out what the baby is, I'm unsure about that...what do you all think?

Well I guess that's about it!

Have a great day!

Welcome :cheer2: I have a son named Connor, too :)

Gvillemama - Welcome! Maybe you could tell your DH that finding out at the u/s is still a surprise, it just comes 20 weeks earlier! ;) At least, that's how I feel about it.

I feel the same way, but then I am so impatient I could never make it 40 weeks. I wanted to know so I can decorate the nursery one way or the other.

I'm 32 weeks...can't believe how fast this pregnancy is going!!! It has been hotter than you know what here so I have been a tad miserable...lol. DD was born in May so I have never had the pleasure of being pregnant during the hot and humid summer and it is so different. I feel huge and uncomfortable and I know part of it is the weather....oh well, it's so worth it and I really am trying to enjoy the remaining weeks because this is likely our last child.....

Glad you are keeping a good attitude and still trying to enjoy it - you are right, it is so worth it! But the hot summers are so hard! I have to make it all the way through this one - but, luckily, we are only supposed to hit 100 for the first time this weekend, which is really late for here - usually we are there in May.

Definitely not - but it would go perfectly with my DS3's space themed room!

Yeah, the space theme was great for DS10 - now I see a lot of priming in my future.

Those socks are so stinkin' cute. I'm having the hardest time not buying clothes for this baby. I know she won't need them - we are getting a ton of hand-me-downs, plus she is the last grandchild/niece on both sides of the family, with my DS8 being the closest in age, so everyone is so ready to buy baby stuff. Plus, the last time there was a baby girl in DH's family was 54(!) years ago, and this will be the only one - they are so going to spoil her. But still, the clothes are just so adorable! Did anyone see the little swimsuit they had at Target that was pink with an attached tutu? Maybe not so practical, but darn cute.

Well last night we were laying in bed talking and DH brought up that for Connor's sake, it would probably be easier if we knew what we were having so that we could prepare him for a little brother or sister instead of just a baby. It's step in the right direction I suppose. I guess we will see how it goes. ;)

I wanted to find out the sex and it did help my DD. She had wanted a sister, but very quickly came around to the idea of a brother. I think DD is just excited to no longer be an only child. My SIL was expecting twins and they didn't find out till she lost baby #1(Boy), she is still doing great with twin #2 (girl).

Hello ladies!

Well, the further along I get, the more tired I am. Who's surprised? :lmao:

I'm trying to keep up, but I may not respond individually. Just know I'm here, I'm reading, and I'm thinking of all of you!

My NSTs have been going fine, and blood pressure continues to be low. I'm seriously considering starting my FMLA in mid-July. Work is getting to be too much, swollen feet, exhaustion...I would prefer not to be totally wiped by the time this kiddo arrives! Well, at least less wiped out. :thumbsup2 Plus, I figure it would be nice to get some time with my DS as well, maybe plan some little museum trips, things like that so we can bond a little.

Anyway, 35 weeks now, so it's only a matter of time. :goodvibes

Wanna see something gross? ;)

I don't know why, but it eeks me out!

I think you look great! My belly button is popping out a little and I have the biggest veins ever. Here are DD and I at the beach this last week. You can even see the veins through my tan. :scared1:

Hello ladies!

Well, the further along I get, the more tired I am. Who's surprised? :lmao:

I'm very low energy right now. Even coffee isn't helping get me off my butt this morning . :rotfl:

We just got back from a week at the beach. Had a great time! We also decided to change the baby's name. So now we have a G name! We are more excited about this one. It's very uncommon for our area. We aren't telling anyone til she comes out which will be decided tomorrow at my appt. :cool1:

I see we have lots of girl babies - where are our boy babies!?!

Your suit is super cute! I wish I was brave enough to show the tummy like that. For the most part I find preggo bellies really beautiful, but for some reason, I feel like a freak show with this one. :rotfl:

I wish I could drink more coffee.. it really aggravates my restless legs, so 1/2 cup a day is my limit. :( But I know what you mean about low energy, I've been that way for weeks and weeks.

We also aren't telling the name because we also didn't want to have to explain a change (which we did end up having as well). I also don't want to have to have the name "approved" which for some reason my parents think they have a right to do. Sorry, but his name is _________ and the birth certificate is already filled out.

Thanks! My belly is the most "toned" part of my body so I don't mind showing it off. My butt is another story. :rotfl:

Oh and around here everyone would have an opinion of her name, particularly because it's different. Since we live in a small town, it'll get back to me or they'll say it to my face. I don't want to not like it because some people are rude. No one says anything bad about a baby once they are here - win-win!

I don't normally drink any caffeinated beverages, and I found myself having a can of my husband's Pepsi last night just to stay awake so I could play with my DS!

Good for you! It's exciting to have name picked. I was very mum's the word on the possible name for this baby, but my husband and I weren't agreeing on anything. When my mom got sick (and passed) we decided to name him after her. I was able to make a boys name out of her name, and I'm really happy with it. I think we were meant to name him after her.

Long story short, it also begins with a G. :thumbsup2

This is one of the benefits of naming your baby after someone who has just passed. Because people know we're naming the baby after my mom, no one has given us a negative opinion about the name. They wouldn't dare. My mom would be so pleased. ;)

I can understand about not sharing the name - although we have with everyone. We don't have the negative talk thing going, though - I guess if anyone doesn't like the name we picked, they have kept it to themselves! We picked Keira - I had to spell it for my Grandma at least 10 times, then she finally said, "Well, I guess that's one of those new names?". Cracked me up - she is 96.

Has anyone found any good maternity pjs that are cool (as in temperature, not style :lmao:)? It has officially gotten hot here, and I am hot even in a ribbed tank (not to mention that I get sick to death of wearing them!). I would love a lightweight cami/short set, but I can't seem to find any. Any direction for me?

I am a big grouch today - the baby kept me up for 2 hours doing somersaults and kicking last night, which was the first time this pregnancy, but I know won't be the last, and DH is off doing his Scuba Certification dive today, which was something we were supposed to be doing together, until I got pregnant. I am happy he is doing it, and I'll do it next year, but I guess I'm a little more miffed than I thought I was! Plus this is our first 100 degree day - I just feel hot and complainy. Aagh. Thank God for air conditioning :goodvibes

I'm feeling the same way, and I still have almost 3 months to go! It's like it just hit me this past week!

Well you can't see any veins in the picture anyway, you look great!

I know how you feel. We didn't tell anyone with DS either, just kept saying that we hadn't decided yet. Right before he was born, DH's brother and wife had a new baby and the whole family made fun of the name, after he was born. I felt so bad for SIL! Some of the ILs were really rude about it!

That's great that you were able to name your son after your mother! We are also naming DD after DH's deceased mother, which we thought woould prevent any negative comments. Too bad her name was Isabella, so my sister already asked if we are naming DD after the Twilight character. :headache:

This baby has been keeping me up at night too, she's been moving so much! As for pj's, I don't have any maternity ones and didn't last time either. Last time I wore one of DH's t-shirts. Since it's so much hotter here than winter in Chicago, I have been wearing either sleeveless cotton nightgowns from Kohl's and Target mostly, or bra-top camis with roomy boxer shorts. I think the camis are Donna Karen, but I got both the camis and sleep shorts at Sam's Club for a really great price. They are roomy enough to be comfortable so far, and I think they will last most of the pregnancy. If not, I will stick with the nightgowns.

I forgot I also wanted to ask if anyone has done a pre-natal massage yet. My sister gave me a gift certificate for my b-day, but she seemed to think I need a note from my OB before I can get the massage. I never heard of that before, has anyone had to do this? Do you have any tips or comments on the pre-natal massage?

I'm really pleased to honor her in this way. My first son has my grandfather's name (my mom's dad) as his middle name, as he passed when I was in high school and I wanted to remember him as well. I like that sort of tradition.

I know how you feel about the Isabella thing. My husband has always called me Bella (he's Italian), way before there was ever a Twilight. If we'd had a girl, we really wanted to name her that, but after Twilight became so popular, we got discouraged. At least you'll have the ability to tell people no, and tell them why, and it is a wonderful tradition to carry on.

With my first son, I got a massage once a month. The woman I went to knew I was pregnant, and she was certified in that she knew what "not to do" to a pregnant woman. For example, I would never lie on my back, always on one side or the other, and there were certain areas, like the belly most obviously, but I can't remember where else right now, that she avoided.

You could always call your OB for advice, but I would just call the massage therapist as well to make sure he/she is aware of how to handle pre-natal massage specifically.

And if you go, ENJOY! It's wonderful. :cloud9:

I had a 9:15am with ob this morning but the office called and said doc has a surgery - I had to reschedule for this afternoon - 3p.m.

the reason that is such a bummer is I am a few days from week 25 and don't feel her kick at all - I was/am very overweight and carry much of it in my stomach - so I am trying to be logical that due to my size it is normal not to be feeling her yet - but I am sooo scared.

Even just waiting the extra hours until 3pm is going to be hard....

dizluvah: I am sure everything will be fine. I know it is hard not to worry though, but worrying won't help anything. 3:00 will be here soon and all of your worries will be gone, I'm sure.

We told everyone the nae we had picked out. Everyone seems to like it and I don't care if people don't. We've had it picked for a long time, before I was ever pregnant, so it is what we are going with no matter what!

I had an appointment on Friday. Everything looked good, but I told the Dr I've been having a lot of BH contractions, some with pain down there too. He did a cervical exam (owwww!!!!!!) and said that everything was normal for this stage, but baby already has his head in position to be born! (That explains why my belly looked like it dropped down a couple of inches overnight right before the appointment I guess!) He said that is unusual, but not unheard of for 30 weeks, and told me to call if I have more than 6 BH in any given hour, have any spotting, or if they just feel different somehow. He said I would know. I hope he's right!

He scared me then because he said he would like for me to get to 34 weeks, preferably 36. I thought the goal would be to get as far as possible! He didn't tell me to stay off my feet or rest or change anything, though, so he must not be too worried about anything happening... Although, that night I had five in an hour, had some water, then had four in twenty minutes, one very painful. I was about to wake DH up to go to the hospital, but then they stopped and I had no more that night and less than a half dozen, only two painful, the rest of the weekend. I think drinking more and walking around helps!

Still not sleeping well. Just uncomfortable all over. Last night my girls hurt so bad they were actually throbbing. This morning they seem bigger and my maternity clothes are starting to not fit (which is wierd; I've really only gotten bigger in my chest and belly, and just a teeny bit on my inner thighs). I am usually an XS and bought them in a M, so I thought they would make it the whole way.

We went to BRU Saturday, and they had the Mickey car seat on sale for $75 and the Chicco Lullaby LX playyard for $95, plus I had a 20% off coupon. We bought them both, even though we already have a carseat and a playyard. We figured we can use two playyards (one at home one at work; we also got the ocean wonders one on sale for $100 then used a 20% off coupon on it) and we will eaither try to take the first carseat back (didn't fit in our stroller right anyway) or just use it in the second car instead of an extra base. Funny, though, that those were both things I wanted and didn't get because of the price, then they were on sale once we had other versions.

Finally (in my novel) we went to the mall yesterday to look for some new maternity shirts for me (Everything was soooo ugly; they looked like scrubs with ties on them...or so expensive I couldn't bear the thought of paying for it to wear a couple more months...). While we were there we stopped and got a card at Hallmark for my Mom's birthday and the lady said they were having their annual ornament preview in a couple of weeks (crazy...) and they had Baby's first christmas ornaments we might like. DH said "what would we need that for?" She was mortified and he quickly told her he was kidding. She said she usually doesn't say anything, but I was all belly so she thought it was safe...I told her to ignore DH. Then on the way out of the mall I got a cookie and was eating it as we left. This group of teenage girls was sitting on a wall outside and one yelled out, "Wow, if I was that fat I don't think I would eat any cookies!" DH was PISSED; I thought he was going to smack them. I said to ignore them...

Sorry for the novel...I am just rambling to avoid working, LOL.

Have a great day everyone

I had one with my first pregnancy, but it was a masseuse that I knew very well and trusted completely. It was really awesome. Some places might require a doctor's note, and others may not. Ask the spa. I think the only real difference was that I had to lay on my sides and not on my front or back. (The girl who did mine did not have the special table with the belly hole)

Wow. That would scare me too. But if you haven't felt her kick up to now, I wouldn't let it worry me too much. Try to stay calm and take care of you until then, but I bet everything is ok.

Yikes! Sometimes doctors aren't so good at communicating and they leave stuff unsaid that is scary. :)

I've had TONS of BH since about 20 weeks. Some were in close succession, some completely out of whack. My doctor said that's normal. Mine have also been painful sometimes.

Last night was awful. I woke up at 11:44 with the WORST contraction so far. I'm not sure it was as bad as the transition contractions I had w/ DD, but it was bad and LONG. It lasted about 6 minutes. And then my back hurt so much afterward that it took me another 2 hours to fall asleep because every subsequent contraction just ached. (Those were all short and less painful) I really thought I was going to have to go in to the hospital during that first contraction though. So today I'm overly tired again. :(

DD7 is overly tired today too. She ended up falling asleep about 4pm yesterday and we let her nap for an hour so she had trouble going to bed at 8pm as is normal. :headache: She's also starting to realize that baby brother is imminent, and I think it's affecting her emotions. She's already a very emotional kid -- which is good in some ways (she is very empathetic) and bad in others (has a hard time controlling her emotions) -- so I know this is really hard on her. She just called me from her day camp saying that she just really didn't want to be there today. I told her I couldn't just come get her because I have to work and so does daddy and I promised her that we could do something special tonight (I have no idea what... any ideas?). I also told her that daddy would bring her her book (Percy Jackson Lightening Thief) at lunch time so she could find a quiet corner and read. (My hope is she'll just fall asleep and that will help her out)

But of course, I'm so hormonal and tired myself, that I hung up with her and started bawling myself. Thank god I have an office door. I feel so rotten that I am totally disrupting her life. I know that she will be a fabulous big sis, and that she will love this baby more than anything, but I also know it's going to be a big adjustment for everyone. I hope I am a good enough parent to handle the transition well. :guilty:

Thanks everyone for the advice on massages!

Sorry you're having to wait when you're so nervous. Hopefully hearing the HB will set your mind at ease! Have you felt the baby move at all yet? Have you tried drinking some juice then lying on your left side to see if it is more noticeable? I know when I first started feeling this baby moving, it was mostly when I was lying down, especially when I was trying to sleep at night!

Did he say you would be induced then, or just say they wouldn't stop labor?

This morning they seem bigger and my maternity clothes are starting to not fit (which is wierd; I've really only gotten bigger in my chest and belly, and just a teeny bit on my inner thighs). I am usually an XS and bought them in a M, so I thought they would make it the whole way.

It's probably the way you are carrying. I am also usually an XS, and with my first pregnancy, that got me almost all the way to the end. With this pregnancy, I couldn't really even squeeze into a pair of XS maternity pants during the first trimester, and tops were way too tight around the chest. I'm doing ok so far in small pants, but most small tops still look like I am swimming in them because of the way I am carrying this one. I hate when nothing fits!

:rotfl: at your DH messing with the girl at Hallmark and  at the ignorant teenagers.

Wow, it sounds like you could be getting close!!

Aww, sorry about the rough day, I probably would have cried too. I can't stand to see or hear my DS upset when I can't do anything about it. I'm sure you will handle the transition the best way possible for your family!
