Moms to be Part 4

Alright all you smart ladies, somebody make me feel better. I got so sick of waiting for my DH to change the kitty litter that i did it myself this morning. I didn't touch anything but the bag and washed my hands afterwards. So now i'm worried about toxoplomosis on top of eating a medium well steak last night. Anybody have any suggestions on how not to be that crazy pregnant lady?

I'd agree that you should be fine.....if you have to clean out the box again, maybe wear disposable gloves if it brings peace of mind.

I don't know if this makes you feel any better, but I've had a medium-well cheeseburger and several turkey sandwiches from Subway (not heated) and am doing just fine. Oh, and hot dogs, and an occasional sip of a caffeinated beverage. :rotfl: As long as everything is in moderation, I think you'll be fine. :)

I know how hard it is not to worry....but you should be just fine. Everything I have read about changing kitty litter just says to wash your hands well afterwards.... and I think a medium well steak gets plenty hot enough to kill any bacteria. I have been so good about not eating lunchmeat unless I heat it up in the microwave.....but one day I went to Panera and had an asiago roast beef sandwich with soup. It wasn't even until later in the day that I realized what I had done.

:scared1::scared1::scared1:

You guys are so BAD!!!! I would never do something like change the kitty litter or eat unheated lunchmeat!!! No, I just eat soft cheese (like blue), drink a cup of coffee (caffeinated) every day, have the occasional beer (Not lately... makes the RLS worse), and take anti-depressants and sleep meds regularly.

In all seriousness. I wouldn't worry too much about changing the kitty litter (or any of the other stuff)... but I'd sure lay a guilt trip on DH for not doing it in a timely manner.

Thanks WDWorBust... i'm glad other people worry too. I see we're due on the same day. That's cool.

Very cool :) I probably should know this but is this your first?

Okay guys....I REALLY, and I mean REALLY, want to go to Disney in early September. One...I'm having withdrawals and Two....DD is going to be 7 when the baby arrives which means she has been an only child for 7 years. As much as she wants a baby sister or brother I know that her world is going to change so much. I had scheduled a short trip in May for us but it didn't work out because our friends cancelled (DH wasn't able to go then) and DD didn't want to go with just me and not be able to ride the RNRC :rotfl: So I want to have one more trip where it is ALL about her. Where if she wants to ride Primeval Whirl 10 times in a row with daddy she can. But am I crazy?? I will be in my 30th week then. I went when pg with DD at 31 weeks and it was a WONDERFUL trip. But I am 7 years older. But so far this pregnancy has been complication free and besides MS and fatigue (oh and lack of concentration and focus) I have been pretty much good to go. I haven't approached the subject with my doctor yet but plan to at my next appt on the 17th. So what do you guys thing? Go....or I'm crazy to even think about it??

Oh....and while I'm asking for opinions.....is it ridiculous to go have a gender scan at just shy of 18 weeks and pay $50 (if baby doesn't cooperate I'm just SOL) - $85 (if baby doesn't cooperate they will bring me back to check again for free) out of pocket so I don't have to tell my doctor I don't want to know at my appt and wait until DD can be with me at my 20 week appt? I want to know NOW!! But feel like it is probably a waste of money. What do you guys think?

WDWorBust: This is going to be our second. Our daughter is really excited about the baby. :)

As for the ultrasound, if you have the extra money, i'd say go for it. Nothing better than seeing the baby.

Well, baby's been content in here and hasn't decided to come on its own...so tomorrow morning at 6 I'll be induced! Super nervous and hoping everything goes smoothly and painlessly (ha!). I can't wait to get it over with and meet baby. :lovestruc

Woo-hoo! I hope everything goes smoothly for you and can't wait to see pics!

I'm sure you'll be fine. If it makes you feel better, I had a huge, delicious ham and swiss deli sandwich on Tuesday. It was sooo good. I think there used to be a lady on here who went to a childbirth class at a hospital where they served deli sandwiches and the nurse/instructor said the risk is really very low.

Well, if you went at 31 weeks before and had a good time, I don't see why you shouldn't do it again. I just went to DL at 22 weeks and had a great time. You probably already know which rides to avoid, take lots of breaks, and stay hydrated!

As for the u/s - I don't think you're crazy and those prices are really good.

I'm paying $100 to have a 3D u/s today to confirm the gender of this baby. Everyone wish me luck and cross your fingers that she's still a girl! :yay: princess:

Hi everyone! Just checking in.

WDWBust - Personally, I wouldn't go at 30 weeks in early Sept. The only reason is b/c it would be way too HOT for me. We had a weekend of HOT and HUMID weather here in Chicago and I thought I was going to die and I was only 19 weeks at the time. Like you, I have a 7 yr old who's world is about to change (for the better : ) I just can't imagine putting up with that heat being huge. I couldn't stand it at home and I'm not even big yet. That's just me though. What about something closer to home and not in hot, humid weather? I was thinking about a waterpark for DD for her last big hurrah. She loves waterparks and I figured I could float along the lazy river all day and not walk round in the heat w/ thousands of people. Again, just my personal opinion, I don't think I could handle it.

Eating - I eat lunchmeat all the time. Sometimes heated, sometimes not. My doc said no worries. It would be extremely rare to get lysteria or whatever it is called. He also told me 1 cup of caffeine per day. I don't drink coffee so I occasionally with drink a soda. It helps with the headaches.

$ for ultrasound - I'd do it to give you a piece of mind. If I can find a 3-D place that allows my DD to be there, I would do it. She is not allowed at my doc or the hospital : (

We find out Monday whether we are having a boy or girl. I don't care what we are having. As long as the baby is healthy, I'll be happy. :)

Honestly I wouldn't worry about it. A lot of people have been exposed to it before and actually have immunity. I grew up on a farm drinking fresh cows milk, so I've more than likely been exposed to it and am immune. I still let DH do the cat box, but that is his job anyway.

WDW or Bust---Go For It!!! I was checking in to just say:

WE BOOKED DISNEY IN JULY!!! I will be 30 weeks!!! It is our wedding anniversary and my DH is in need of a trip, so today we put a call in to DVC. I told DH that I would go on one condition---I would go if we could have LeCellier ON our anniversary. Well, the gods were in his corner, because sure enough, we got an ADR--I cannot believe it! So then I tried Chef Mickey (the kids favorite) and we got that too! Unreal! So I booked the trip!! Now if I can find a cheap flight, that would be great!:cool1:

Have you ladies done any reading on early vs delayed cord clamping/cutting? I ran across an article (on msnbc I think) about it, and started doing some research... It's very interesting. I know we've had the discussion about cord blood banks, and I thought this was relevant...

http://midwifeinfo.com/articles/cord-clamping--please-wait

<church lady> discuss amongt yourselves </church lady> ;)

Interesting article. It's not really something I've ever really thought too much about. When DS was born I can honestly say I have no recollection of the cutting of the cord, except that DH absolutely refused to cut it. Has anyone with kiddos asked for the doc to wait to cut the cord?

Kudos to you for doing WDW at 31 weeks! I say if your doc gives you the go ahead, and you feel good, go for it! :yay: Just rest often, and drink water like it's going out of style! :rotfl:

As for the u/s, it's great that you want your DD with you when you find out. Sounds like if you go at 18 weeks, it would be to a private facility, and not the doc's office, right? I've heard that the private places, while somewhat costly, do spend some quality time looking at the baby and just watching him/her. Might be more enjoyable for your DD than the doc's office.....I know at my ob's office the scan's are usually not terribly long.

:yay: Congrats on your upcoming trip! How exciting!! :woohoo:
Just curious.....DVC is something that I've been researching for about a year now.....I know that planning ahead is a big part of it. But, it sounds like you guys had success in getting a room just a few months out, which is great. Just wondering if you got the resort you wanted, and if you've had prior success booking so close to your trip. I'm just not sure I could always plan (or want to) 11 months in advance.

Leith, we usually do not have a problem, because we go in off season. I did try and plan a Christmas trip a year ago with about a month's notice and could not find availability, but that really was it. I booked today knowing notice was short, and we ended up getting our 1st choice, for at least part of the trip then our second choice for another part. Also, there are waitlists, and everytime we have been waitlisted it has come through. Again, it is our personal experience---we love DVC!!!

Sorry, I know this wasn't directed at me but.... We have DVC and I wanted to share that since 2005 we have NEVER had a problem getting a reservation, and we usually go about 2-3 times a year. We haven't always gotten the resort we wanted, but we've always gotten something we like and we NEVER plan 11 months out. I love our DVC membership and HIGHLY recommend it!

Thanks so much for the feedback! I just wasn't sure about the whole planning so far ahead part of DVC, but it sounds like with a little flexibility, you can have success planning several months in advance, instead of 11. Now......if I could just figure out which resort to buy into! So many great choices!

Leith, here is the other thing to consider:

unless you plan to go during peak season every year, when buying in, buy where the points cost less. We have yet to run into not being able to pick our resort with 6 or so months notice. Let me reiterate that if you are going over Spring Break or Christmas, then you should buy where you are determined to stay, because you can book at your home resort 12 months in advance !!

Ladies, do you know of any Disigners that do pregnancy related disigns here on the boards? I always make family shirts and I have looked through 3 threads this morning and I haven't had any luck.....Thanks!

I don't, but what about getting someone to make iron-on transfers and just buying a maternity shirt at Target or ON?

If I can find a 3-D place that allows my DD to be there, I would do it. She is not allowed at my doc or the hospital : (

The place I went to yesterday allowed me to bring my DS3. I found it through a search on this site: http://www.1800sonogram.com/. Also, when I lived in your area and was pg with DS, I seem to remember seeing lots of 3D places when driving around. The one I remember most was off I-88 near the new outlet mall in Aurora.

Awesome!! I can't believe you got a Le Cellier ADR on such short notice!

*********************

So we had our 3D u/s yesterday and DD is still a DD!! princess: When we told the tech about our last u/s, she went straight to that area and got a great clear shot of the 3 lines! Then she spent about 20 minutes just watching her and moving her around. She kept covering her face, so it was hard to get good shots. She was also close to the lining, so they weren't very clear and were kind of shadowy. But she is also starting to grow hair already! I am NOT surprised from the heartburn I've had so far!

At one point she put both of her elbows up over her ears and DS asked if she was covering her ears b/c he was being too noisy :rotfl: (he was being a little loud at times!) After about 20 minutes, she put both of her hands over her face, then drew her knees up, curled into a little ball so we couldn't see her face at all anymore - I guess she was done with the photo session! :rotfl2:

That's fantastic that she's still a girl :) I called my OB's office this morning and just asked if they ever allowed children and told her why and she said occasionally the doctor will, but that she has to approve it. So she said she would check for my next appt and give me a call back....I was so excited. But then they called back and said she couldn't because my OB had been gone for a week and was playing catch up so it would be just too busy to have a child there. I was so disappointed. DH is against paying for one when the only difference is me waiting another couple of weeks - which I understand - but I'm still mad at him. I'm also not sure that I'm not going to just tell him that I am doing it and he's welcome to be there if he wants to.

Ok ladies, I know a lot of you have had previous c-sections, so I have a question. I go in next Thursday for my 6 week checkup. I have steristrips over my stitches (dissolvable). The nurse said they would just come off in the shower. Yeah...none of them have. Should I take them off before I go in? I think they look gross, but I'm sort of afraid to pull them off, if that makes sense. What should I do?

Also, did you go to your 6 week solo (well, with the baby) or did you take someone to help with the baby? It seems like most people I have seen have gone alone, but I want to make sure that's "normal" before I do it.

Mine didn't come off, either. I had DH take them off for me (after I called my OB to make sure it was okay)... I thought the same thing-- gross! But it petrified to remove them because I was afraid that I wasn't healed back up yet. It wasn't a big deal at all, I was still so numb I barely even felt what DH was doing. :thumbsup2

I went alone with Lucas to the PP appointment, too.

I've been in and out of L&D the last two days. I've had some horrible bug that had me throwing up everything (including liquids) that I tried to consume. So I got admitted for IV fluids and turns out I was starting to go into labor from the dehydration. Whoops. I didn't even feel the contractions, I was just so out of it from the bug. Luckily the fluids stopped everything and I'm barely dilated 1. I even escaped without any preterm labor drugs!
I was there all night last night and it was sorta bizarre- yesterday was Lucas' birthday. He was born at 10:04pm (c-section) and my nurse the night he was born was the same nurse I had last night. At least I wasn't in the same room! :rotfl:
