Moms to be Part 4

Ok ladies, I know a lot of you have had previous c-sections, so I have a question. I go in next Thursday for my 6 week checkup. I have steristrips over my stitches (dissolvable). The nurse said they would just come off in the shower. Yeah...none of them have. Should I take them off before I go in? I think they look gross, but I'm sort of afraid to pull them off, if that makes sense. What should I do?

Also, did you go to your 6 week solo (well, with the baby) or did you take someone to help with the baby? It seems like most people I have seen have gone alone, but I want to make sure that's "normal" before I do it.

If the area under the steristrips looks healed, take them off. I did not have them for my c-section, but I did have them for a knee surgery and I called and asked if I could remove them.

I did go to my six week solo... I think. I think he released me to drive at the 2 week visit, so I would have been able to take DD and go. I don't think it would be considered abnormal to go just you and the baby. I've seen lots of mom's and teeny babies alone in the waiting area.

After my c-section only a few of my steri strips fell off. I left them on and the Dr pulled them off at my appointment, said they were no longer needed. I think at 6 weeks it would be safe to pull them off, but if in doubt ask the Dr.

The place I went to yesterday allowed me to bring my DS3. I found it through a search on this site: http://www.1800sonogram.com/. Also, when I lived in your area and was pg with DS, I seem to remember seeing lots of 3D places when driving around. The one I remember most was off I-88 near the new outlet mall in Aurora.

Awesome!! I can't believe you got a Le Cellier ADR on such short notice! :banana:

*********************

So we had our 3D u/s yesterday and DD is still a DD!! princess: When we told the tech about our last u/s, she went straight to that area and got a great clear shot of the 3 lines! Then she spent about 20 minutes just watching her and moving her around. She kept covering her face, so it was hard to get good shots. She was also close to the lining, so they weren't very clear and were kind of shadowy. But she is also starting to grow hair already! I am NOT surprised from the heartburn I've had so far! :laughing:

At one point she put both of her elbows up over her ears and DS asked if she was covering her ears b/c he was being too noisy :rotfl: (he was being a little loud at times!) After about 20 minutes, she put both of her hands over her face, then drew her knees up, curled into a little ball so we couldn't see her face at all anymore - I guess she was done with the photo session! :rotfl2:

I'm glad that you were able to confirm that your little girl is in fact a little girl!

Sounds like it was great - I would love to be able to watch the baby for that long. I didn't realize the private places gave you more time - that is a good reason to go.

Alright all you smart ladies, somebody make me feel better. I got so sick of waiting for my DH to change the kitty litter that i did it myself this morning. I didn't touch anything but the bag and washed my hands afterwards. So now i'm worried about toxoplomosis on top of eating a medium well steak last night. Anybody have any suggestions on how not to be that crazy pregnant lady? :rolleyes:

I agree with everyone else - it should be fine. I think "they" give us waaay too much to worry about these days. There was no lunchmeat thing or soft cheese thing the last time I was pregnant - I was shocked when I ran across those this time. Mostly cause I had a whole lot of sandwiches before, and I have a thing for Brie. And steak, hamburgers, hot dogs, coffee and a little beer. When I start to worry about something, I think about my mom, who took Excedrin 2-3 times a day with all 3 of us, and my friends mom, who never changed her martini at cocktail hour when she was pregnant in the 50s. Moderation is everything, I think.

But then they called back and said she couldn't because my OB had been gone for a week and was playing catch up so it would be just too busy to have a child there. I was so disappointed. DH is against paying for one when the only difference is me waiting another couple of weeks - which I understand - but I'm still mad at him. I'm also not sure that I'm not going to just tell him that I am doing it and he's welcome to be there if he wants to.

Sorry the doc's office won't let your daughter go with. I was reading on baby center that some young kids are weirded out by u/s's before the 3rd trimester b/c the baby doesn't fully look like a baby yet. DS3 was at my 12 week and the 3D yesterday and he was fine with both.

This is sad, but I don't remember the answer to either of your questions! :laughing: I am totally losing it. I am personally very queasy when it comes to blood and stuff, so I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have removed the steristrips myself, though I may have let DH do it, I just don't remember.

As for the 6 week, I wanna say DS was napping at the time of my appt, and it was DH's day off work, so he stayed home with DH. But I have seen plenty of women bring their babies in alone at the last practice - the nurses always seemed to get really excited about it. Strangely, I almost never see babies at my current doc's - I wonder if there is a policy against bringing them in? :confused3

I've been in and out of L&D the last two days. I've had some horrible bug that had me throwing up everything (including liquids) that I tried to consume. So I got admitted for IV fluids and turns out I was starting to go into labor from the dehydration. Whoops. I didn't even feel the contractions, I was just so out of it from the bug. Luckily the fluids stopped everything and I'm barely dilated 1. I even escaped without any preterm labor drugs! :banana:
I was there all night last night and it was sorta bizarre- yesterday was Lucas' birthday. He was born at 10:04pm (c-section) and my nurse the night he was born was the same nurse I had last night. At least I wasn't in the same room! :rotfl:

Scary! :scared1: I'm glad you're doing better and hope you can stay out of L&D until much closer to your due date! :hug:

Sounds like it was great - I would love to be able to watch the baby for that long. I didn't realize the private places gave you more time - that is a good reason to go.

Yes it is. The place I went to had different packages that were different prices and lengths of time, # of pics etc. I was worried that if I took the 10 minute package ($80), it wouldn't be enough time to make sure she was a girl since we probably spent almost that long at the OB office and couldn't get a good enough shot. Plus it was only $20 more and you got a lot more pictures and DVDs with the extra time.

That's fantastic that she's still a girl :) I called my OB's office this morning and just asked if they ever allowed children and told her why and she said occasionally the doctor will, but that she has to approve it. So she said she would check for my next appt and give me a call back....I was so excited. But then they called back and said she couldn't because my OB had been gone for a week and was playing catch up so it would be just too busy to have a child there. I was so disappointed. I never even thought about asking if DS4 could come to my 13 week ultrasound, just brought him (along with my husband.) I wanted it to be "real" for him. However, I had an ultrasound at 9 weeks to date the baby and I noticed a basket of toys and books in the ultrasound room, so assumed it was allowed. I'm sorry your daughter can't participate, DS was soooo excited to see the baby and all his/her little parts.

When we were watching the baby, so was DS, he loved it. The hardest part was keeping him occupied between the scans when the tech wasn't in the room. (We were having the nuchel (sp?) testing done and baby did not want to show the correct angle of the neck/spine, so I had to keep getting up and walk around to get the baby to turn. Never happened. What can you do?)

Also, did you go to your 6 week solo (well, with the baby) or did you take someone to help with the baby? It seems like most people I have seen have gone alone, but I want to make sure that's "normal" before I do it.

I took my DS on my own to my 6 week check-up. DH stayed home with his mom & grandmother who were visiting. I needed to take DS because I was nursing and wasn't sure how long I'd be gone. Not only the drive there and back (almost an hour), the wait at a very busy practice, I also was getting a prescription for bc pills, so I think I ended up being gone for close to 3 hours, so needed DS with me so he could eat.

When is the best time to get a 3-D ultrasound done?

I'm 20 weeks right now and we are going to find out the sex at my 20 week ultrasound on Monday. DD is not allowed to go.

So, I would only do the 3-D ultrasound so she can experience seeing the baby, etc. I found a place near our house that is $99.

Just curious when you all think the best time (weeks) to go.

So we had our 3D u/s yesterday and DD is still a DD!! princess:

:cheer2: Glad to hear you're still getting a DD!!

Yikes! Hope you're feeling better now! :)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I hope everyone had a good weekend. I convinced DH that we really needed to clean and organize the entire basement before the baby comes. :rolleyes1 Between that and keeping up with the laundry, the weekend went by much too fast! :rolleyes:
Have a great week! :yay:
Glad your DD is still a DD Pollito!
Piecy: scary about the early labor. Hope you're feeling better now!
The place I went to last week said 27-31 weeks. They said that's when the baby starts to get a little "chubbier and cuter" :cutie: and much after that it gets difficult due to space.
Thanks! If I do end up scheduling one, I'll probably shoot for around 27 weeks. I think I'll keep it a surprise for DD. She's a little bummed she can't go with us today for our 20 week ultrasound.
I can't wait though! We will finally know the gender. :cool1:
Congrats on confirming you're having a little girl! princess:
I'm so jealous....I want to know gender NOW!! But I think I will wait until my 20 week ultrasound instead of the spending the money. It's only 2 more weeks at the most from when the doctor will find out.
I know how you feel. I've been waiting forever! I'm 20 weeks and 3 days! My doc did an ultrasound at 18 weeks and it was super quick b/c he was running behind so I didn't even ask him to check. I was so bummed b/c I thought maybe I'd find out then. I'm leaving work in 15 minutes for my appt which is in 1 hour. So, I should know in the next couple of hours.
Don't worry, your time will be here before you know it! :goodvibes
Ooh, I hope your LO is cooperative! :goodvibes
I was so dying to find out with this one. Before my big u/s, I tried the Best Baby Gender Test at 10 weeks (girl) and the Intelligender Test at 14 weeks (boy). I was so bummed that the results were different, b/c I felt like if they were the same, I might have a better chance of them being right. If you check around, they both probably have the same accuracy ~ 50% - as good as a guess! :laughing:
Well ladies the horror of all horrors struck this weekend. I've got what I'm pretty sure are hemorrhoids. My poor but just aches all the time. I've been using the witch hazel but it wasn't doing much. Today added Preparation H and I really hope it starts working soon. It's painful if I sit, stand or even lie down. So I'm sore and grumpy today. I sent DH and DD out for a night out so I could just lie down and rest my poor but. The worse thing is I wasn't even constipated, but I have developed more varicose veins in my legs this pregnancy. It's a first time for painful hemorrhoids for me though. I am praying I don't have to suffer for the rest of the pregnancy with this.
Other than that the pregnancy is going well. Tomorrow is my DD's last day of grade 4. Life seems to be good.
Ouch! Call you doc and get some Proctosol. You'll feel better in 24 hours. :hug:
OUCH! I had them after my first pregnancy and they were horrible. Did you try taking a warm bath? My doctor told me to ask the nurses at the hospital for a sitz bath. They said they don't have those anymore, but from what I understand you sit in a donut type thing filled with water. So, maybe taking a bath will help? Or just letting the hot water in the shower hit the area for awhile? Sorry, hope you feel better.
I had my 20 week ultrasound today and everything looks great.
The baby cooperated and we were all shocked to learn it's a BOY!
We all thought girl for sure. It was very obvious we were wrong.
