Moms to be Part 4

Oh, I started that thread. It's a bunch of mommies from when I was pregnant with Lucas. It's slowed down a lot lately... a few are getting ready for trips to WDW, I'm so jealous!
A few have joined from this thread but the majority of us are from when I was pregnant with Lucas.

They're all nice, I swear no one will attack you over there. ;)

Oh cool! Haha I didn't know you started that! :) I'm glad they're nice, some of the DIS moms are really ... um.. opinionated.

I'm jealous of the families going to WDW too! I wish I could teleport there.

I am jealous too. I want to go back again sooooo bad!

On the cruise we are taking, one of the stops is Port Canverel (I'm sure I just butchered that). You can go to WDW, but they are only in port 10 hours, and transportation is $65 per person, RT. I know that isn't bad, but we would also need to buy tickets (probably no expire; IDK if we would be able to use the AP enough or not to be worth it even with the DVC discount) since I refuse to pay the price for a one day ticket. I have been wanting to see F&G for a long time, but don't think I can justify the cost for a few hours. :( Oh well, we'll be back soon enough...but it will stink to be so close and yet so far

Hehe... I can be quite "opinionated" but I've learned to (mostly) keep it to myself... No one else cares. REALLY. :)

ETA: I love reading other peoples opinions and experiences though... I think I get most of my information about news events from reading the comments on the news sites rather than the articles. The articles (and their venues) can be SO biased, and you get a much clearer picture of what is going on from the discussion, KWIM? Which is why I asked you guys about the circ. thing. WAAY better than reading one sided (either way) stories on the internet.

Well yeah we all have our opinions.. lol. Opinions are like butts, everyone has one! lol. I was trying to be as kind as possible ;) Some moms scare me! :scared1:

Oh, I have to giggle, I just got my Victorias secret junk mail, and I was looking at the stretchy yoga pants. In a few of the pictures, there's this model wearing a "bandeau top." This thing was so skimpy I thought... "it's not a top, it's a headband!" lol

If you mean this one, http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2434277&page=15

then yeah, I started it up because I couldn't stand losing track of everyone after this thread with Lucas!! :rotfl:

We've had one bad patch of drama... a few posters stopped posting and no more issues since. One wasn't even causing the drama but she got offended and ditched us. I think it's easy to misread stuff online but you're right, the DIS has a lot of holier than thou I am a perfect parent type of people. I don't think I'm a perfect parent. I so don't even come close lol

Yep, I totally agree. I like reading things from real moms and real people. :thumbsup2

That's really cool you did that. :hippie:

Yeah, sometimes drama just shows up. :headache: I try to avoid it, or I just say my peace and probably offend people and leave, lol. But yeah, the holier-than-thou thing is a little much for me. I'm SO far from perfect, I just do what I gotta do and that's that. "Perfect" isn't even in my vocabulary.

I'm torn about the cord blood thing, ok, not quite torn, but that's still a nice chunk of money better spent elsewhere. I guess it's like an insurance policy of sorts. ::sigh::

I agree. We spent a good deal of time researching when we had DD and since then our hospital began a pilot project, which recently became permanent, for cord blood donation. I guess when I think about it banking is not terribly expensive but the initial outlay is almost $2k and then the storage every year. And there's no guarantee we will ever be able to use it. It's a really personal decision and everyone needs to do what is best for them and their situation. For us, donation makes sense.

I checked- there isn't a hospital in the entire state that does the donation. What a bummer.

I doubt we'll bank it, but I would have donated it.

Eeeep!! $2k down?!! OK... so maybe the cost hasn't gone down since DD was born. I think we're just going to have to scratch that off the list. I'd have totally donated, though.

Yeah, there's nothing even close to locally that does it here, either.

Hey, isn't this about the time in our pregnancies where we're supposed to have this big burst of energy and not be exhausted?

I'm so tired!!!

I am still tired Mrs. C. Somedays are really bad. I thought all of my books said more energy and no sickness by now too. Ooops, I guess they are wrong :-/

I called my Dr. because the kicking baby is doing feels wierd; then I had a little cramping after lunch (no bleeding or anything, but it worried me). Now I think the cramping might have been gas...it is pretty much gone. Oh well, I'm sure they will think I am psycho, and I'm sure I was calling over nothing, but better safe than sorry!

That really stinks! I hope public awareness efforts are successful with donation and it catches on everywhere. Of course, funding is always an issue but wouldn't it be great if everyone had the option to donate?

I've been absolutely exhausted this week! I am getting a good night's sleep but can't seem to catch up.....

I had my 16 week check-up today and they found baby's hb with the doppler - 156! :woohoo: AND I got to schedule my big u/s - April 27th! 12 days away - I'm so excited!:banana:

I'll come back and read what's been going on here the last 2 days.

Yep... I hear ya. I had a massive morning sickness episode this weekend. They're definitely wrong.

Sometimes it really is best just to call, and sometimes that little bit of peace of mind means the world. :goodvibes

I really hope so, too. If cord blood does all they say it can, I don't see why it's not done everywhere. :confused3 Then, maybe, it wouldn't be as expensive because so many people would be doing it.

I'm exhausted too. The darn phone woke me up 2 mornings in a row. I always panic at first because I immediately think it's an emergency with a family member (DH primarily.) No, its some kind of crap, every time.

YAYYYY!!! :woohoo: Are you going to find out the gender when you have your U/S?

Exactly! Then there will be no need for anyone to bank if they don't want to because it will be readily available.....

Hope everyone is doing good! I might not be around as much (obsessively :rolleyes1) as usual because I just figured out we're leaving for beach in two weeks and I still have school to do! Time to get this house cleaned and pull out the summer clothes. Time flies when you're pregnant! :yay:

Oh, and if anyone is *FACEBOOK* friends with ZPT her husband posted baby info. I'm sure she'll be by soon enough to let us know, though. :)

Have fun at the beach - that sounds like fun! Good to hear ZPT had her baby, hopefully she posts soon with pics! I really need to get on FB one of these days.

Everything is great. Baby is measuring right on target, a solid heartrate of 178bpm and was wriggling around today when they did the ultrasound....that was very cool .

That's great news!

Is anyone here looking at or made the decision to do cord blood banking?

I looked at it with DS, and like many others couldn't get past the cost. If we had the money, I would probably do it, but we don't. :sad2: I checked the link KPM posted about donating, but it's not an option anywhere in my state - I wonder why that is?

I don't really have strong feelings about it one way or the other since I don't really understand the equipment involved in the way DH does!

This is the way I felt with circumcision when I was pg DS. DH has one and I don't, so I let him make the decision. I checked AAP info, and they didn't make a recommendation either way, so I left it up to DH. We did not end up circumcizing DS, because DH is not circumcized and he wanted them to be the same. DH's brother had a son 3 weeks before us and their son's boy part never fully came out (looked like a turtle), so it was painful for him. I don't think they had the "new" way of doing it, though. One of my friends that used our same pediatrician in IL had it done the "new" way on both of her sons and said they did great and didn't seem to be in any pain after it was done.

Also, we take no extra steps to clean his *****. We wash it just like the rest of his body: we don't pull the skin back, which is what a lot of people have asked me! Finally, in my son's preschool class there were 8 boys, 6 girls. None of the boys were circumcised---I could not believe it! I thought we were the only ones, so I was very relieved to know that he was not the sole kid!!!

We don't pull DS's skin back either to clean, though I think the ped has done it a few times just to make sure everything is ok. What a funny conversation to have at a pre-school class! :rotfl2:

We are leaving on a quick road trip tonight to pick up our new bulldog puppy tomorrow morning. I am excited, and hoping I can have him potty trained by the time Colton arrives!

Congrats on the new puppy! I don't know much about bulldogs, but we had our beagle puppy potty trained within less than 2 weeks, I want to say. She was figuring it out by the 3rd day home or so.

We're also going to be getting a new puppy the first weekend in May. We lost ours this past November and had already put a deposit down on one before we found out I was pregnant so we would be potty-training during the summer when it's a little easier. I'm excited to get our little Abby (she's an australian terrier) but probably would have waited had I had any idea I would end up getting pregnant so quickly after it taking forever!!

Abby was the name of my dog growing up! :thumbsup2 Supposedly my father had named her after some gangster Abigail Hoffman  Congrats on your new puppy!

Oh, I started that thread.

I remember when that thread was started - there was a previous "new mom" thread that I was a member of from when DS was born, and we all felt old when you started that thread so we changed our name to "toddler moms"

Did you get to talk to the doc? What did they say? I hope the cramping is gone for good!

I'm exhausted too. The darn phone woke me up 2 mornings in a row. I always panic at first because I immediately think it's an emergency with a family member (DH primarily.) No, its some kind of crap, every time.

Ugh, they're doing construction in our neighborhood, and start building @ 6 AM every day, which always wakes me up. Stupid DH & DS still manage to sleep until 8 which drives me crazy! :upsidedow

Sara: Yeah for getting your US scheduled soon! I hope puppy is trained in short order, our other puppy took a LONG time to get it.

I just talked to my Doctor. He said there is nothing for me to be concerned with; everything sounds normal. He said to call back if I have any spotting or anything but otherwise go on about my business. He does want me to come into his office Tuesday to check me out before DH and I leave for our cruise (puppy is staying with grandpa and grandma; I feel bad leaving him so quickly but they will take GREAT care of him!). He said it's more for my peace of mind than anything and not to worry. :) So I feel mostly better...IDK if I would have felt better to not have to go in at all or since I will have to go in and get a little peace of mind, KWIM? I am thinking if he was concerned he would have had me come in right away so I am trying to be calm :)
