Ahhhh I think I found the bedding I want!!!!!!!!!!!:banana:

This is it, if DH likes it too!

This is the paint color in the guest bedroom right now. It's called 'Belgian Waffle'.. originally meant to be used in Lucas' room when I wasn't going to find out what he was. That changed, though, so his nursery did too... and the guest bedroom got the lovely paint color.

This is the bedding! I really think this is it! :rotfl:
LOVEIT.jpg

I think the room in the picture is pretty awesomely close to the color of our guest bedroom! Plus, all of the nursery furniture I am stealing from Lucas' room is the natural wood color.

oooh, that is so cute! If you steal the furniture from Lucas' room, what is he going to use? Are you planning on putting him in a regular bed already?

No, I was just going to steal his glider and changing table originally.

Then I started looking at stuff online... :rolleyes1

I've changed my mind! :rotfl: I'm still going to steal his glider (it bugs me to let him play in his room unattended because I'm afraid he'll get his fingers caught in the glider... but they're so common in nurseries I have to wonder if it's even possible for him to hurt himself??)

Anyway! I picked out this crib:

51T7ccFW4EL._AA300_.jpg

and someone in the review section said that the Leksvik furniture from IKEA matches perfectly... so I'm going to get:

72491_PE188268_S3.jpg

which has a pad (sold separately, of course) so that the top can be used as a changing table.

Then I'll probably get this, too:

22206_PE088063_S3.jpg

If we have enough room left I'll probably get the wardrobe, too. Not really sure because Lucas doesn't really have any furniture so we'll need to buy him some soon-ish. I use the cube thing from Lowes for Lucas' clothes right now.

This is the bedding I have http://www.walmart.com/ip/Fisher-Price-Rainforest-Friends-4-Piece-Crib-Bedding-Set/13241507

I think my room is roughly the same color as your guest room.

I live in the basement so as for a "changing table" we're looking into getting something like this http://www.walmart.com/ip/Summer-Infant-Contoured-Change-Pad/12526899 that way I don't have to be going up and down the stairs every couple of hours to change her diaper, and while I'm in class my mom can keep it upstairs and not have to go back and forth. It was my mom's idea...she's pretty brilliant most of the time.

She's also picked out a shower cake
safari-bennet.jpg

She's going to draw the animals and cut them out of poster board and for the "trees" they are just cinnamon sticks with green stuff on them which she plans on doing. It's so adorable!

I just can't wait. The more we get and get set up the more excited I get. I had a dream the other night where I was in labor and all I was doing was screaming "Mommy, make it stop!" the whole time. I told my mom and she said she was just going to smack me if I got like that. I doubt I will though, I'm more of the suffer in silence type...I'll just clench my teeth and fists and get through it.

Does anyone have an opinion on Epi vs IV? I'm kind of afraid of the epidural and I'm not sure what the options are. My OB is on vaca so I won't see him for another 3 weeks and I have an appt with a diff OB Friday, but I'm not sure if she has a different routine than him. Any advice?

Aurora, that is soo cute! It looks like the monkey is playing peek-a-boo!! Aren't those wall decals the coolest?? I have some Pooh ones in Lukie's room... he has absolutely no theme to his room.

Emalee, you can probably get those animals at a local craft store. My mom got them for about .75c a piece at a store here called "Crafts 2000".. she super glued clothespins to the back and I have them on Lucas' curtains. I think she used them to decorate at my baby shower, too! :) They're very cute. That cake is super cute!

It's a bit far away, but this is a picture before Lucas moved in...

*eta* I forgot about Epi! I'm assuming by IV you mean either Nubain or Demerol? I think those are the two most commonly used. I had major issues with contractions causing me to have gallbladder attacks. My original pain management plan was Nubain (my OB's drug of choice) but the closer I got to my due date, the worse and more frequent the gallbladder attacks I got were. I had to go to L&D to get Demerol (My OB was, unfortunately, never the one on call so I got their drug of choice :rotfl:). The first few times I didn't even KNOW I was having contractions- the nurse said the pain from the gallbladder was diverting my attention from the contractions. Whoops. lol.
Anyway! Demerol only numbed the gallbladder attack enough so that I could get some sleep. So I don't think it's a bad choice, it definitely took the edge off! It depends on the type of labor you have-- with just straight contractions, I think it might be enough to get someone through but I don't know if it would be enough with back labor.

It also depends, in my opinion, on how your OB will do it. Some OBs will let you take it 'til the end and others stop about an hour before you're ready to push... I had back labor, gallbladder attacks and all that other crap so I got the Epi. I loved it! It made the 16 hours I was in the hospital laboring tolerable. Just be more diligent than I was and if you think it's wearing off, let them know! I spent a few horrific hours (complete with hyperventilating) with no pain management because it wore off and the anesthesiologist was nowhere to be found. I swore to DH that I was never doing that again. Technically... I stuck to that, because I'll be doing a RCS this time. :rotfl:

Oh, and some people say they hurt... but I REALLY didn't feel anything. Maybe I got a great anesthesiologist (not the one who went missing later... I'm not sure how I feel about THAT guy :lmao:) or maybe I'm just weird, but the reason I didn't originally plan for an Epi was because the idea freaked me out. Then I got one, didn't feel a thing and all was well on earth until the shift change...

Emalee - Love that cake!! So cute - your shower guests will be so impressed.

Piecey - love the hand print artwork - is that a ribbon holding up the art?

WDWAurora - that bedding is adorable.

It is too early for me to shop but I spend so much time daydreaming about what I want the nursery to look like, etc. I can't wait until we know the gender!

Have a great day ladies...

Yep. I bought a roll (at the same craft store I was talking about up there!) of rainbow ribbon to hang stuff with.

I bought black foam board and primary colored paint and people put their handprints on it at my baby shower. :) I also bought a silver paint pen so people could sign. I don't think I'd had the baby shower yet in this picture, though... because that just looks like all my co-workers handprints!

I bought wooden plaques for the family members- his uncles, grandparents and then DH and I. Painted them black, did handprints and then I sprayed them really good with polyeurethane. DH and I wrote messages on the back of ours, too. Hung all the plaques with the same ribbon-- I also used it to hang his name above his crib.

Thanks for the tip about the animals. We'll have to go looking, my mom's pretty artistic so I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem for her but since she's putting on the whole shower I'm sure she wouldn't object to a little less work! :confused3
I think I'm going to have trouble asking for something if it wears off (I may suprise myself but I doubt it) I honestly hate asking people for help. I had a hard time registering for my shower...I felt bad asking for anything over $10  LOL. My parents had to sit down with me and just say, "Ok, get that. And that. And that." I'd balk at the price but most of what I registered for are the essentials anyway.
One of my coworkers told me the Epi felt like a bee sting, just a slight pinch and that was it. Problem is I haven't been stung by a bee since I was like 4. I avoid them like the plague because I didn't like it. I can't remember what it feels like. I hope I don't end up with an anesthesiologist like yours though...if I want pain meds I better be getting them ASAP!

Emalee - Love that cake!! So cute - your shower guests will be so impressed.

I should put some pics on here of cakes my mom has made in the past. My family won't be as impressed as my friends. I'll post the pictures as soon as I post this...I don't want to make this one too long.

Nice! I would definitely worry about fingers in the glider too! I had a cube type thing from Pottery Barn kids for the twins baby clothes, now that they are bigger we use it for underwear, socks, etc....

Right now, the baby is just going to use the drawers under the changing table, but things are going to change when DH and I re-do the closet, probably soon, we're going to tie it in with putting away winter clothes and bringing out spring clothes (and purging a ton). I feel like such a procrastinator not having a proper nursery set up but we're looking to move soon so I didn't want to make myself nuts over it, besides, we keep baby in our room for my convenience with nursing. I love seeing what everyone else is doing though!

Cute! I love all the cute animals bedding. As for the changing table, when I had the twins I had a full changing table upstairs and downstairs so I wouldn't have to run up and down stairs all day. This time I have the big changing table upstairs and I got the pack and play with a changing area to keep in the downstairs. So much better than doing all the stairs, especially when you are trying to recover.

As for epidural vs. IV, totally different things. If you are induced, you will have to have an IV for fluids and depending on your doc or hospital, sometimes they at least place the line just in case of emergency, even if they don't use it. I've been induced for both previous labor & deliveries so I've always had one. They can push a painkiller through the IV (it varies- at my hospital they use stadol, others use nubain). It was my experience that the painkiller made me sleepy and could be considered more comparable to taking a narcotic in pill form like you would following a surgery or something. The epidural is totally different- you should get numb from the waist down but it doesn't really mess with you mentally. Your hospital may have a limit on how many times you will be allowed to have the painkillers during labor whereas an epidural can generally be topped up as many times as needed. You can also still have the epidural on, at least partially (sometimes they turn it down to help you feel the urge to push/learn to push more effectively), whereas they will not give the narcotic painkiller past a certain point because they don't want it to affect the baby.

For personal experience- with my first I was in induced labor for 29 1/2 hours- from about 5 pm until 9:31 pm the next day. I did two shots of the stadol- the first so I could try to get some sleep and another one while I waited for the epidural. I tried really hard to not get the epidural but in the end my labor was just soooo long and I had back labor and felt everything in my back/couldn't move from the back pain so I listened to the very wise nurse who told me not to let anyone else influence me, just to do what was right for me to get through it. She also said something about there's no prize at the end for not using pain meds- so true! So I got the epidural and it was wonderful- I finally relaxed and went from 4cm to 10cm in no time. I think that getting rid of some of the pain allowed me to finally relax and let my body do what it needed to do.

When I was having the twins, I was anti-epidural. I had a lot of back pain after my first was born and I thought that maybe the epidural had played a role in that. So I was determined, I wasn't going to do it that time. Another induction, labor started around 7 am and by the afternoon I was miserable, got the shot of stadol and took a nap. I don't remember it making me so loopy with my first but I definitely was that time- I said some funny things apparently. I woke up from my nap and the pain was intense and unbearable. I told the nurse I wanted another shot of stadol while I waited and screw it all, I wanted the epidural. Too bad so sad for me, I had gone from 4- 10 and it was time to push so no epidural for me. I have to say- that intense back pain? Even worse after the twins! It had nothing to do with the epidural and everything to do with my tilted uterus and just my general anatomy- apparently I just get back labor (I also get back cramps with my period)

This time around, knowing that the epidural had nothing to do with my back pain, I am going for it. Heck, they could hook it up now and let me get through the remainder without the constant back pain, that would be super! In the end, no one can decide but you what will work for you. You can always go in with no expectations and make up your mind as you go along. There's no right or wrong!

Here is one of part of our nursery...It's the Pop Monkey set from Babies R Us:

The walls are green. Hard to tell in the pic. I love all this monkey stuff. I went into Best Buy since I couldn't handle it, and he showed me the bedding online later. We added the wall decals this week.

That is so cute! I can see the green, I Love it- what a nice soft color!

I have to say, we have that same carseat and it is AWESOME! So easy to install in the car! We've had our share of carseats and helped friends and family with theirs too and by far that is the easiest carseat to install

I think I've mostly decided that I want to try and do it with just painkillers. I want to still be able to feel what's going on. Your back pain due to your tilted uterus scares me though...I have a tilted uterus too so maybe I'll just have to get the epidural and deal with it! I plan on talking to my OB about it sometime soon, I just like getting advice from others especially since I'm not particularly fond of my OB.

- What is RCS?

- I love all of the bedding sets!! I'm jealous, I want to decorate another room! We will be moving in March of next year so I'm not sure what we are going to do room wise. My daughter Carrington (14 months) has a neutral vintage pooh room. I'm thinking we'll keep her in there and just keep the baby with us until it's time to move. Then we'll take all Pooh stuff with us for the baby and Carrington will get a big girl room. Bring on the pink!!! I'm so excited although it is a bit of a ways off.

OMG I feel like such a slacker! LOL you're all in school for advanced degrees, I'm a few credits short of a BFA. :rolleyes1 AH well.

I know how you feel. My husband is in med school so most of his friends have advanced degrees. Most of my friends from HS and undergrad are all getting MDs, JDs, PhDs etc. I feel like a slacker sometimes. Not only are we the only ones with a child, but not many others are married either.

OK.. I'm taking notes here. Boy = monkies. Cute. I like that. I definitely like the green too, somehow I never seem to think boy = green. I also need to get a 2nd dresser. I did OK without a glider last time, so I don't think I'm going to run out and buy one esp. since this is the last behbeh.

Emily: I want cake now!! LOL. Neeeeed caaaaaake.

ZPT: Thank you for the pain management lesson :) I'm definitely keeping that under my hat in case I go into labor before my c/s date!

My 3D is today... yayyy!! I'm excited. I really have no clue what this baby is. My pregnancy is a little milder, like I only had all-day sickness and not hyperemesis like I had DD. I seem to be carrying the same. I have no "sign" pointing in either direction, I really have no idea! It's going to be a big suprise either way.

DD is sickies, and I'm just kinda starting to feel human again... except now I'm puking all the time. Ugh. Thanks, post nasal drip. Thanks.

When you have periods, do you get typical cramps or back cramps? That might be one indicator what will happen in labor, although you never really know until it happens. Just keep an open mind and you'll be fine. As we all know, nothing with pregnancy, labor and delivery or babies goes exactly according to plan ;)

RCS = repeat c-section

I'm with you on the doing a nursery- we're planning on moving, most likely in the next few months so it really makes no sense to get into painting and decorating and all that. It's hard though because a small part wants to and I looooove seeing all the nursery photos.

DH and I are in the same boat with marriage and kids. We've been together for 13 years, married for 8. Our friends are just starting to settle down and a few are starting to have kids. We are so far ahead of them in that regard. We joke though, because they will be getting into the tween and teen years and ours will all be out of the house, or at least be old enough to be alone and DH and I will be off having adventures!

Thanks.

I've never had a glider either. When the twins were born DH put our small loveseat in our bedroom so I could prop lots of pillows around me and tandem nurse but that was the extent of it. It's okay though, I probably bought every other piece of baby gear on the market at some point  Maybe that's why I feel unprepared this time- we've simplified. We realize what we won't use, or at least don't need to have right away and we skipped out on a lot of what seemed like must haves when it was our first. :confused3

Have fun at your 3D ultrasound!!

Sorry to hear your little one is sick now- that's the pits when the kids are sick, especially when you still are not feeling 100% yourself

Mrs Charming, I see your signature about a pin and going in December- do you mind sharing what discount you were able to get? We have a trip scheduled for August but we're debating putting it off til December.

I know how you feel. My husband is in med school so most of his friends have advanced degrees. Most of my friends from HS and undergrad are all getting MDs, JDs, PhDs etc. I feel like a slacker sometimes. Not only are we the only ones with a child, but not many others are married either.

I love the name Carrington. It's very glamorous and "Dynasty." We'll probably be moving n Feb of next year, so yeah, going all out on a nursery isn't really in the cards for us, either. DD's getting her big girl room sooner than later since the baby is going to be in with us (taking her place, sniff sniff) and so I think I'm just going to use those removeable wall stickers. I have some really cute Princess ones that I bought when she was little, thinking she was going to have a bit more of a nursery.

Luckily we're in the "blue collar" type group where most of DH's friends are in some sort of construction, so there are few advanced degrees... but then when I find a group that almost all has advanced degrees, I feel like crap! lol. And the thing is, I don't *want* to go back to school, I'm almost 30, and I don't regret my choices in the least... but it still makes me feel like an idiot! :headache:

Sure! Back in December 09, we got the 25/30/40 PIN. We booked the Poly for $219/night. It might be our first and last Poly trip, but it's going to be for my big 3-0, so why not! :P

Luckily in my house chocolate is a drug. We have cake like every other week. With easter coming with get the most delicious lemon angel pie which is a family recipe that my mom will not let my sister or I see until we have our own families to make it for...and even then I'm not sure I'll ever be able to make it like my mom.

I'm sorry your DD is sick while you're not quite feeling better yourself...I hope you both feel better soon!

When you have periods, do you get typical cramps or back cramps? That might be one indicator what will happen in labor, although you never really know until it happens. Just keep an open mind and you'll be fine. As we all know, nothing with pregnancy, labor and delivery or babies goes exactly according to plan ;)

I get the kind of cramps that debilitate (sp?) a person. In high school I'd actually have to go home because I couldn't sit in class and standing in the back didn't work either (plus I looked like a totally geek standing in class ). I'm sure my labor will be painful...I know my OB had said something earlier about maybe just scheduling a CS to avoid any problems but I don't want to pick my baby's birthday, I want to go into labor and get to experience that. Call me crazy if you want but part of having a baby means going through the whole experience for me. Even if it means pain, I mean...the memory will fade right? :confused3

As for the cake pics...those are really sucky pictures. I showed my mom the ones I posted and I've been told I need to post different ones and now she's looking for the envelope I couldn't find earlier. She wants you all to see the really impressive ones she made when I was little...so in about 4 hours there will be a new cake post. (Because technically I'm at work :surfweb:)
