Moms to be Part 4

Gabes Mommy - Where in S. Florida are you? My DS was born at Plantation General and we lived in Ft. Lauderdale, Coral Springs and then Boca Raton!! That's one downside I am dealing with now, I have NO warm clothes leftover from Alexander!! I have shorts and t-shirts in EVERY size but very few for warm clothes, especially 0-6 months stuff because Alex was born in April and then we came North in the Summer. I have some 12-18 stuff from the Fall and Winter after he was born but nothing smaller!!

We're in Palm Beach Gardens so not far from you at all. I had DS at Jupiter Medical Center, but hated it. I am planning on having this baby at St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm. I am so sick of this cold weather! I know a lot of people like it, but I hardly own any cold weather stuff for myself or DS so we are wearing the same stuff over and over.

Gabes Mommy - Go figure the year we move out of Florida there is a nice cold snap! We left in June and live in Southern New Hampshire now. We are from MA and all our family is up here so it was time to come home. I HATED Plantation General. It was a horrible hospital experience but I LOVED my OB.

Wow I have got to get to this board daily - I had 9 pages to catch up on!

Thanks for the advice on needed items - I am taking copious notes.

Being near family is wonderful. Congrats on your move. That explains why you don't have any cold weather clothes for your DS. :goodvibes

I thought of another must-have for you. If you like the idea of baby-wearing at all I recommend getting a pouch type sling for the first few months. The one I had was a "Hotsling". My DS loved it and it was great for when he was fussy. :goodvibes

What is everyone's name? I'm Joy. :goodvibes

Patsy

I FORGOT TO GO TO DQ!! OMG! I can't believe that. :( :(

I got all distracted by the Stouffer's meals on sale at Krogers. :headache:
I take advantage of sales so DH has lots of frozen options if we don't have leftovers for him to take for lunch... I think I got him 30 meals! I went crazy!!! :scared: I didn't realize how bad it was until I started putting it all in the car! I also got some lasagnas for us to have for quick dinners. Yum! We're going to have one tonight, I'm scrapping my other plans!

Christina, do you like your Vera baby bag? I might keep an eye out... my cousin has one and I might ask her if I can take a peek at it. I really want a diaper bag I'll love. Especially because the bottom of the Maclaren stroller really doesn't seem to have a ton of room and I DON'T want to carry my diaper bag.. I want it to fit in the bottom of the stroller!!

Ohhhh Applebees!!

We have a card for any 2 entrees free from them. Tempting! Too bad I already put the lasagna in the oven. :( Maybe tomorrow night. I can get a girly drink there, too!! woohoo! :rotfl:

DH got Applebees to go one night and I got the Paradise Chicken Salad.. got home and there was no CHICKEN!?!?!
So I called and the manager sent us a card for 2 free meals.

Hi Joy! I was wondering what your name is. My name is Christina!

Patsy - I like it overall. I just stopped using it because I got tired of the pattern. It was the Windsor Navy. It has a lot of pockets inside and stuff. It's nice because while it's all cloth you can wash it so even though it can get messier than one you can wipe down.

I do like a lot of the newer colors though so I might break down. I am on strict orders not to buy anything "extra" right now until DH gets his big commission check so I am trying to be good. I am not doing that great at it but I am trying! :-)

I think I want the Skip Hop Studio Diaper Bag this time, in chocolate. More of a 'dressier' less diaper bag looking bag. But then I think I might want a Skip Hop Duo Double too. Ahh who knows... I splurge on one in a month or so ... along with a new stroller and a new camera lens and a new .... :-)

We got pizza tonight ... I went out ALONE and just drove around to find a new place to try. Talked to my BFF and it was nice ... I only need an hour here and there to myself to be able to come home and LOVE on DS again. So refreshing. I just took a small swallow of DH's beer ... DS told on me.

I am getting so excited guys ... I keep looking over at the swing (which DS's bear is in right now rocking to sleep) and get the butterfly's in my stomach. I can't wait to hold him and to nurse him and kiss him. I am not a very touchy feely person and I hold my emotions very close to my heart so it took me a while to bond with DS. I feel like I am so much more ready for that part of having a baby this time ... More confident maybe?

And ... here's another contractions! My BFF is a nurse and she said I should go to L&D tonight to get monitored and check out. I would rather just get the rest ... They aren't consistant and while they are getting stronger last night, overnight, I had less of them than I had the last night. Today I had about 4 really strongs ones though ... Obviously if my water broke I'd go in but otherwise I'd rather not. Though she made a good point ... if I am going for the repeat C-Section don't I want to get there earlier in labor than later?

I'd go.... I didn't think twice about going when I did with DS. Though, at the same time... I was usually going for gallbladder attacks which was a completely different kind of motivation!

You better take your Kindle and update so I can spy on you through Facebook. I'm getting so excited for you!

I'll have my Kindle when I go and the laptop as well. I am not going to go tonight though ... there is no regularity to the contractions.

I like Sonic for their drinks and slushies, but I'm not wild about their food. And I love fast food, so that's totally weird for me. OMG a few months back (or more?) Taco Bell had a Pina Colada slushie drink... holy goodness. I loved them, I hope they bring it back for Summer. I could really go for one!

good to know about the food, although that's never what's looked amazing in the commercials- it's always about the drinks, they look AMAZING

Maybe it will be sooner than later! On that note, no news from Kiki in a few days, maybe she finally has something going on! :woohoo:

I can't seem to pick a diaper bag either. I like to try to see things in person before buying them and the stores around here just have no selection at all.

I'd go.... I didn't think twice about going when I did with DS. Though, at the same time... I was usually going for gallbladder attacks which was a completely different kind of motivation!

oh, is everyone on facebook?? I won't post my full name on here but I'd be happy to do it through PM

You ladies sure have been busy! I'll have to make sure to visit this thread more often!

Hi, I'm Sara! :wave2:

For car seats, I am one of the few that likes the carriers for the convenience of not waking up baby. Though I have to confess that I usually made DH carry it. We had the Graco Snugride for DS, and it's on of the lighter ones and only goes up to 22 lbs. I wouldn't want it to go any higher. It's probably still good, so we will most likely use it for this baby unless we find an amazing deal on one. I like the idea of the Nautilus for older babies.

All the talk about food made me go downstairs and get a fruit bar - so refreshing! Sonic used to drive me crazy with advertising when we lived in Chicago b/c the nearest one was 3 hours away. :sad2: Now we live down the road from one and almost never go. I like their slushies, but the food is not that great. I agree - no posting pics of food here. DH & I like to watch "The Best Thing I Ever Ate" on Food Network - and it makes me sooo hungry!

For diapering, we still use the Diaper Champ (original) for DS and love it. It's so simple and does a pretty good job of masking odors as long as you don't wait too long between changing the bag. And you can use regular garbage bags.

I have a nice diaper bag from Potter Barn Kids for DS, but stopped using it 1.5 years ago and now just use a small backpack from a swap meet. It won't be big enough with the new baby, though, so I've been looking at the Skip Hop bags.

I never wore maternity underwear either. I like the VS angels stretchy cotton undies - they are so soft and comfy.

I had a lot of scent aversions with DS, but not as many yet. Mostly meat and fish. DH had shrimp for dinner one night and didn't take out the trash and it stunk sooo bad the next day when I got up. :scared1:

Hospital stay - milk it for all it's worth, especially if you have other kids at home. The nurses when DS was born strongly recommended putting him in the nursery at night so I could get some rest, especially the first night, since I had been there since 2 AM that morning and he wasn't born until 6:45 PM.

Maternity leave - I had a c-section with DS, so I was off for 8 weeks, and will probably do the same this time. Due to my time with the company 6 weeks was 100% pay and 2 weeks was 75%. I didn't want to take more since I didn't think we could afford it. If I stayed much longer, I may have never come back, but I'm glad I did. I don't have the patience to be a SAHM. But I envy women who do.

Sorry to everyone that has the family and in-law problems. My family is great, but small. DH's family is large, but bought us nothing last time except a few little outfits. But I know they don't have much money, so I didn't really expect more. So my mom, and DH & I bought almost everything.

ZPT - sorry to hear about the "useless" doctor. I would go somewhere else if he was on call too! My DH can't follow instructions either. When we got DS's PNP, he and a friend put it together w/o the instructions, then couldn't figure it out at the end, so asked me to look at the instructions. They had missed one of the first steps, had to take the whole thing apart and start over. :headache:

Kiki - sorry about all you've been going through! :grouphug: I hope your LO makes an appearance soon!

Iris - don't we all wish your mom was right and nausea and heartburn was in our heads! Maybe if I say "I feel fine" enough times it will come true!

EmALee - glad you passed the GD test!

Piecey/Patsy - interesting that your OB will let you go to 40 weeks, mine said 39 weeks for a scheduled c-section, but I would rather wait as long as possible. That nursery nurse you had was so out of line - I hope she's not working there anymore making new moms feel bad! The community baby shower sounds like fun!

Lindsay - are you so excited to see your baby in a week?! 4.5 pounds is small, I hope everything goes well for both of you!

Gabe's Mommy/Joy - thanks for the tip on Arnica. I've never heard of it before, but will get some for this time! I would be so mad if nurses were hitting on DH right after you gave birth - that is just unacceptable! Oh, and I'm with you on being hit on by men lately - maybe it has something to do with the growth spurt "the girls" have had? ;)

Christina - Have you figured out when your DH will take off work yet? How are the contractions today? Sounds like Ryan may try to make an appearance soon!

Mrs. Charming - so exciting on getting the u/s scheduled! :woohoo: I would probably hold onto the Fertility Monitor until you are holding LO in your arms, like others said.

Nette - the clotting sounds scary, and that definitely did not happen to me. It would scare the crap out of me too!

Vettechick/Allison - Scary on your bleeding experience too! It's a good thing you insisted on seeing the doctor! That napnanny looks awesome - do they make them big enough for adults?

Oops, I almost forgot to post my own update! :upsidedow

I went for my 12 week appt today, and the doctor tried to find the heartbeat with the doppler, but wasn't having any luck. So they did an ultrasound and found the baby pretty quickly with a nice steady heartbeat of 144 :goodvibes

They gave us some pics I may try to post later, but one I can't tell what it is, and the other looks like an alien. :rotfl: Baby's ankles were crossed, so dr wouldn't make a guess at gender. One of my sister's other co-workers (who is a dr, but not an OB) guessed girl, but I don't know what he is basing the guess on. :confused3

Sara - 144 seems low for a girl if you go by the old wives tale!! This LO had a heartbeat regularly above 165 in the early U/S and there is no question he is ALL BOY! :-) Now he is steady in the 140's. I had such high hopes with the high heartbeat in the beginning.

I never answered about the going back to work ... Obviously, I didn't. I started FMLA in December and took days as needed, mostly mental illness days. I had just under 12 weeks when I went on Maternity leave. I ended up giving my notice about 8 weeks in, like Patsy. I hated my job and the daycares in S. Florida (at least in my area and that wouldn't cost me more than my salary) where not someplace I wanted to send my kid!!

Yay - free Applebees! Our dinner was yummy. You must have been so disappointed when you didn't have chicken on your salad though - boo! How was your lasagna?

Christina I am so excited for you!!! Definitely keep us posted. :goodvibes I went into labor right before my c-section with DS. It was early enough that it never got too bad, but I was still so happy when I got my spinal. Earlier is definitely better than later.

I'm Becky :wave2:

oh, is everyone on facebook?? I won't post my full name on here but I'd be happy to do it through PM

Hi Becky! I'm on Facebook and I would love to add everyone - just PM me your names or email addresses or I can do the same for you. :goodvibes

You ladies sure have been busy! I'll have to make sure to visit this thread more often!

Hi, I'm Sara! :wave2:

Maternity leave - I had a c-section with DS, so I was off for 8 weeks, and will probably do the same this time. Due to my time with the company 6 weeks was 100% pay and 2 weeks was 75%. Hi Sara!! I was a SAHM for 2 years with DS and discovered it just wasn't for me either. I have such respect for women who are just natural homemakers because I am just so not. :goodvibes Thanks for the info on the maternity leave - 8 weeks sounds good.

Why didn't I think of the growth of the girls factor? I'm sure that's it. They never grew during my pregnancy with DS but this time they are HUGE. :rotfl:

Congrats on seeing your sweet baby. I love getting U/Ss! :lovestruc

Hmm.. I may have to look into those bags you guys are talking about!

I'm planning to look at the consignment sales next week... I figure they'll have diaper bags, right?? Getting excited. Bummed, though, that we have to leave at 3 to get her home on time. I wish we had time to hit a BRU and buy, buy, baby...

Sara, I thought it was weird too. I just assumed 39 weeks. Nope! I was wrong. I think I have the craziest OB! Everyone (me included) is shocked she pushes for VBACs and now wants me to go full-term for a c-section. :rotfl:

Oh! And some of you may remember me ranting on here yesterday that I got a mysterious call from the hospital information # (could have been anyone within the building!) and I thought it might have been my OB cancelling my appointment? Well, turns out it was the local cardiology group. DS had a bill I'd forgotten about. So I was relieved..

UNTIL MY OB's OFFICE CALLED TODAY! AGGGGGGH! To cancel my appointment! I'm so irritated! They said my OB is really behind and the wait will be crazy. But the only days they can move me to I can't make, I won't have childcare for one and will be out of town for the other! I can't take DS, he is REALLY sick (spent all night in the ER last night with him, poor baby) and that is a big no-no for her practice. No sick kids. No getting her other patients sick.
They called to move my last one, too! Though it was with the OB in the afternoon and they switched me to the same morning but with the NP. They didn't do this at all with DS so I'm starting to get a bit upset if this is how things are going to go. I figure by "her schedule got crazy" they mean she is doing some procedures they hadn't anticipated but I'm still bugged by it.
Hormones are crazy... I was really tempted to say "She can bump me to the week after next IF she gives me an order to schedule the ultrasound!" but I didn't think that would go across very well. :rotfl:

Patsy - That would drive me nuts, cancelling appointments. I just got a letter from my new OB's office that they aren't going to be doing OB after July. GREAT ... Not that I am sure we will have another but still, I liked them. I always have to wait there too ... I get the earliest appointments I can so that DH can be home with DS without having to work ... 7:30-8:15 and I STILL have to wait. Seriously???? How do they get backed up that early????

Sara - 144 seems low for a girl if you go by the old wives tale!! This LO had a heartbeat regularly above 165 in the early U/S and there is no question he is ALL BOY! :-) Now he is steady in the 140's. I had such high hopes with the high heartbeat in the beginning.

Lucas was 182 @ my first appointment with him. He stayed in the 160's right to the day he was born. He totally blew the old wives tale. :(

This one was lower... I think the 150s. I'd have to go back and look. :confused3

Lasagna wasn't bad, but Stouffers has nothing on my Aunt's lasagna!
I served it with a salad and garlic bread so it wasn't a totally lost meal. DH didn't mind it at all, I've just been spoiled by my Aunt. :rotfl:

I'm really behind after only one day but...

Here's a weird question for everyone - has anyone found that more men are showing interest in them since they have been pregnant? I have had a bunch of guys flirting with me lately - it's weird. I am thinking maybe the hormones make pregnant ladies more attractive to men? Hopefully it will stop once I start really showing. LOL

Yes! Absolutely yes. I work in an office where clients are coming and going all of the time and most of the time I also work with men. I've never had so much attention paid to me. I read somewhere though that a woman's "natural odor" becomes more attractive to men while she is pregnant. They suggest to not wear perfume and see how much more attention you get! :rotfl: I keep wearing perfume trying to divert the attention LOL

I just wanted to let everyone know....I got accepted into our 2 year technical college here for the fall! I can't wait. I wish I could start right now. I've always hated school so I don't know where this excitement is coming from but I am glad I'm not part of the statistic about people who don't go right out of high school never going...I'll be out of high school 4 years this spring and I'm going back. I think it's almost better to wait...I have more life experience now and I feel I'm mature enough to handle it. Well mostly LOL. I just wanted to share my good news...its time for me to go find something to munch on now that I've read all of these food posts!

You ladies have been BUSY typing it up on here!! I haven't had much time to write since I've been trying to get thank you notes knocked out from my shower. It was insane...it's been snowy there, so everybody was thrilled to have a chance to get out and socialize. There were almost 60 people there!! So...I've been writing a lot. I have them all done now, just waiting on a few addresses from my grandmother (I didn't even know everybody at the shower-my grandmother's church friends) and I need to buy more stamps, but they should hopefully go out on Saturday, which is the day of my next shower, which will be MUCH smaller (like less than 10 people). The big one was amazing, but definitely stressful and exhausting for me. I felt like I couldn't spend enough time with anybody and I stayed kind of dazed and confused.

For our diaper bag, I bought the chicco that matches our carseat. It's green and gray and I like it. I'll throw in a couple shower pics...I'll leave out the pic of the cake, since we're anti-food pictures!!

Diaper cake (non-edible, doesn't count!):

This one is a little blurry, but my dad had these shirts made, and they were too funny. We're definitely Ford Mustang people in my family!

26056_775571681089_11817795_42727220_2897176_n.jpg

And I'm totally not looking, but here I am in all my massive glory at the shower:

26056_775570583289_11817795_42727145_1942274_n.jpg

Those are about the only ones I can post since I have people in most of the others!!

It was a great day, and I'm looking forward to having the exact opposite shower on Saturday!
