Moms to be Part 4

Aurora - I hope the job interview turns out well for you. The current job doesn't sound ideal. I regularly travel for my job, and during the first pregancy, my boss never forced me to go anywhere I wasn't comfortable going and in general made the schedule easier for me, ie assigning me local tasks and sending someone else out of state. My co-workers at the time were all men, and were very good about not complaining, since it wasn't extra travel for them because I was still doing work.

Cici - congrats on baby Adam - he sounds adorable! :goodvibes

DMickey - the nursery looks great!

Piecey - how is your ear, getting any better? I get migraines too and my OB gave me a prescription for a medication that is safe to take during pregnancy last week. Haven't had to use it yet though. Congrats on hearing the hearbeat. I was only 8w3d at my last appt and they haven't tried to hear it yet. My DS was also often in the 160s, but I've heard girls usually have higher heart rates, so who knows. :confused3

Hulagirl - you're getting so close! I hope your L&D is as easy as the doc thinks!

Nette - I wasn't sure how I would handle a boy either, since I have no brothers and was mostly raised by my mom, but I love DS. He is wonderful and it's so great getting to experience everything that goes along with boy for the first time. Except for peeing in places other than a toilet. :headache: I hope all turns out well with the u/s findings.

Lauren - congrats on having a girl! I was conflicted with my maternity clothes the first time too, I thought they were so ugly. But it was a matter of finding some cute ones that I was finally able to accept it.

EmALee - don't let those annoying co-workers get to you! They usually mean well, but don't realize the effect they have on a pregnant woman. When I was almost 9 months pg the first time, I had to attend training at another facility and a woman I had never met before went into great detail on her L&D, including pain, tearing, etc. I was traumatized.

phragmipedium - never had that feeling and hope I never do! :scared1:

Foundmyprince - congrats on the new due date!

arubio - sorry to hear you've been so sick! I hope your mom is able to be there for your L&D!

Kiki - How did the belly casting go? I've never done it because I don't think I could stand the feeling and have no idea where I would put it, but I think it's kind of cool. :thumbsup2

Lindsay - sorry about the cancelled trip, but it will be for the best to make sure you have a healthy baby!

I'm 37 weeks as of yesterday :scared1:

Tomorrow my massage therapist who is also a doula is coming over to make a belly cast. She did one for me for DD3 and I still love it. DD loves it too as she always asks about it...it is in her room and her footprints are on it.

Just wondering if anybody else has had it done or is getting it done. It's such a nice thing to have to remember these days :)

I've always seen that and thought that it looked so neat! I hope that it turned out well!!!

I'm having some really intense Braxton Hicks contractions, but nothing steady and consistent yet. Sigh... I went to buy some fresh pineapple today. Who knows if it really works or not, but I do like it a lot, so hey, it's worth a shot. I'm ready to meet my baby!!

CVS has mismarked their Huggies Wipes refills. The Natural Care 215 ct and the Soft Skin/Sensitive 184 ct are rining up $2.50 instead of $7.99.

Thought someone might be interested in buying wipes! I just bought a TON!

Belly cast went well. It took about an hour. It was taken away and it will be covered in drywall compound. After baby is born we'll stamp her little feet on there.

If you do it make sure you go to the bathroom first...LOL

For those that are interested I am sure you can google it. You get vaseline smeared on you and then covered in pieces of plaster cast material.
It dries quickly and peels off.

Yesterday I did my GBS swab. With my luck it will be positive.

Can't believe we were all the way back on page 5!!! What's going on with everyone? Do we have new babies? or new job offers?

Had the appt with the peri yesterday. He said the spot on the heart is teeny and is flexing with the heart and normally they would just ignore it. He also said that because I won't turn 35 until after baby is born, that the risk for Down Syndrome is just barely raised (from 1/300 to 1/270ish). I didn't have the triple screen done, so I guess my mileage may vary, but they didn't see any other soft markers so I'm going to try not to worry. Not much I can do about it anyway.

Glad to hear that it went well! And cute idea with the feet prints!

Yeah, I'm GBS positive. yea antibiotics

Are you getting a fetal echocardiogram done? Our daughter's heart looked structurally fine, and I am 29yo, so Downs risk was low enough, but my OB still suggested the fetal echo. We sort of debated it, as the OB said they really don't use the echogenic foci as a Downs marker anymore since it was pretty unreliable, but I'm one of those people who has to know definitively either way. So I only bring it up since you mentioned trying not to worry cause having that test done eliminated the worry for me.

Lindsey - I know you're probably really scared with your baby's growth issues and the breech position, but I think, and I could be wrong, that knowing in advance that you'll need a c-section is better than finding out at the last second. You'll get a chance to prepare for it, know what sort of recovery you'll be in for, etc. But when it's a surprise, particularly after hours in labor, you're just focused on getting your baby out safely and it isn't till after the birth that all the emotions hit. Anyway, good luck with it if your baby doesn't turn before you go into labor, but here's to hoping that she will!

No, I don't think so. The sono tech and the doctor both looked extensively at the heart yesterday. The doctor even turned on the doppler shifting thingy to make the blood flow show up in reds and blues. He seemed extremely unconcerned.

That's reassuring. Our ultrasound tech did a lot of watching the blood flow too. She didn't tell us till she was entirely done that she saw the spots, but I thought it was odd that she kept taking pictures of the heart and checking the blood flow so much. Then it all made sense. I guess she figured she should wait and see if everything else was okay first so that we wouldn't freak out.

I'm having another miscarriage, so I wish you all the best for H&H pregnancies with beautiful babies at the end. This is my 3rd, and I do believe we're done trying. we'll be moving on to the stage of just enjoying our 2 children that we have with us.

Oh my god. I'm so sorry.

Thank you. I think you're right. I would prefer to do it naturally but if I can't, I would like to know in advance and prepare for that.... I feel bad still technically having two months to go yet, and just really being ready for this to be over.

hulagirl - are you still having the BH contractions?

Kiki - how did your GBS results turn out?

Nette - I'm glad everything looks ok with your baby, you're right worrying won't help anything. I hope you can enjoy the end of your pregnancy!

Lindsey & justthat - I agree that the idea of a planned c-section is easier to deal with than an unplanned one. With my first DS, my water broke at 2 AM 3 days after my due date, but I still didn't go into labor on my own, so had to be induced, then went through the whole labor thing for 15 hours, tried to push but nothing happened, then still had to have a c-section. The whole day was just exhausting and overwhelming, and if I knew that's how it would turn out, I would have preferred a scheduled c-section. If my water hadn't broken and I had made it to a u/s appt the next day, the OB probably would have seen that regular delivery wasn't going to be successful and the whole thing could have been avoided. This time I will have a scheduled c-section.

EeyoreEma - I'm so sorry about your miscarriage. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Oh I most certainly am! whew! some are worse than others but I keep hoping that they turn into the real thing! All in due time I guess. I suppose I shouldn't try to be rushing it too though. she will be here before we know it and then we will miss this quiet time

And to EeyoreEma... I am so sorry to hear what you are going through

Ditto on a planned c-section being better.
I was induced at 39 weeks for DS for several reasons. First, I had to keep going to L&D for demerol shots because my contractions caused gallbladder attacks. Second, Lucas was measuring in the 98th percentile at every ultrasound I had, right from the start. They thought by inducing me at 39 weeks he'd be about 8lbs and we'd avoid a c-section.

I labored from 5:30am-9:45pm before they finally made the call to do the c-section. I pushed for about 2 hours, but his head never made it past my pelvis. Since it was a planned induction I hadn't eaten since about 6:00pm the night before, I was sooo exhausted from laboring, my epidural had worn off 3 times (I hyperventilated from the combination of gallbladder attack/contractions/back labor) and I was delirious. The only thought in my head, as they wheeled me into the OR, was "I wonder what happens if I fall asleep??" I was that exhausted. It was a miserable experience. The second my OB saw Lucas she said "Oh my God, I am so sorry." She apologized soooo much to us for letting me labor so long before we finally did a c-section. Lucas was 9lbs, 5oz... and his head was HUGE! :scared:

I'm planning a c-section this time. Happily. It'll be so much easier to recover from both physically and mentally since I know what to expect going in.

Sorry to hear that Ema. :(

I have a question for you guys. I am 14w4d. For the last few days I've had what feels like Braxton Hicks. Not painful contractions, so I don't think something is wrong, but several times in the day my uterus gets hard. It lasts for several minutes and then things are fine again.

When I was at my 7 or 9 weeks appt he said it was too early for BHs, but it could be my uterus growing. Do you think that's still the case, or am I already having BHs? If it's the latter, I'll drink more water (which I have been slacking on. Too busy at school and I forget!).

Any thoughts? I don't feel this is something I need to bother the doc's office over. Like I said, I don't think something is wrong. Just want some personal opinions!

********
I am sooo tired. My DS has been sick for a few days and not sleeping well at night again and after getting up with him each time I can't get back to sleep and he is REFUSING to nap or even rest with me. I can't wait until next week when my DH is traveling (not that I want him to travel when I am 36 weeks!) but my mom will be visiting so I can nap or sleep in.

Of course, I am now questioning my decision for the RCS vs. the VBAC. I just can't decide. I have a new "plan" I want to talk over with my doctor next week ....

I think I started having BH around then too... I could feel my uterus just kind of ball up in the bottom of my abdomen, but a few minutes later it would pass. I finally went and looked it up the other day, and what I read says that they usually start around 20 weeks, but can start earlier in subsequent pregnancies... so that could definitely be what's going on.

Vettechick - I agree it's probably just BH but I'd up your water intake. I never remember having them with DS but remember getting them early this time.
