Moms to be Part 4

Congratulations Monkeybug and Joann!!

Well I had my 3 hour glucose test this morning and they worked me in for my regular appointment so I didn't have to miss work again Thursday morning. This baby is getting big. The doctor is estimating her at 5 1/2 pounds. Babycenter says she should be about 3 3/4 pounds right now. My OB also said that just failing the 1 hour screening even if I pass the 3 hour sometimes results in bigger babies. She expects that if she makes it until November 12, which is when my RCS will be scheduled, that she will be 8 1/2 - 9 pounds at least.

Congrats ladies! I can't even imagine what the end is going to be like. I'll be 20 weeks this week and I'm so overwhelmed thinking of all the things we still need to do. Thinking of the actual labor makes me so nervous and scared.

Has anyone ordered a crib from cribs.com? I found a crib I like on there, but I'm worried about the legitimacy. There's a 10% off code on the advertising banner on the budget board. Any info on the site would be greatly appreciated.

Joanne - Congrats! Daniel is a pretty big boy! Can't wait to see pics. How was the rcs?

vettechick - I know you used to be able to get the tetanus without pertussis, but I'm not sure if it's still that way. I know DH was vaccinated back in 2005, so I pulled out our copy of the receipt and the dr had check DT instead of DTAP, which would have included Pertussis.

WDW - glad you had a good time on your trip! :goodvibes And somehow, the body just finds ways to keep growing, even when you think it's not possible! :rotfl:

As for me, I'm ready to have this baby tomorrow! I'm not feeling great today, and started to lose part of the mucous plug this weekend, so I may have eventually gone into labor on my own, but glad I don't have to worry about that anymore. Now I can just worry about missing DS3 and everything else that comes along with having a new baby and surgery!

Good luck Pollito! So exciting. I feel like I will never get there. I am at taht yucky, look real fat, no one is sure I'm pregnant stage. '

I had a bad scare this week. I had just relaxed because I hit 12 weeks. I had mentioned earlier how I was nervous since I'm 41 and 1 out of 3 pregnancies over the age of 40 miscarry before 12 weeks. Well, I was finally breathing a sigh of relief and I started bleeding. It was pretty bad - I passed large clots and was sure I was miscarrying :sad1: I went into the hospital, and they were able to see the baby and heartbeat right away with the sonogram!!!! Such a relief!!!!:lovestruc Everything has been fine since. I have ben taking it easy, and am still nervous and scared, but I am just so thankful that my baby appears to be ok. BTW- Prayer works!:goodvibes

Congrats to the new babies! How exciting.

My ultrasound last week went really well. I didn't know it was going to take so long with all the measuring and everything, but it was so nice being able to actually see the baby moving around. My DH and I didn't find out if the baby was a boy or a girl -- I'm still convinced that I want to be surprised at the birth. The baby weighed about 12 ounces!

DIS B -- I'm 20 weeks too, and my DH and I are just starting to get stuff ready. We actually haven't bought anything yet, but I am making lists and such. We aren't planning on painting the nursery, so that eliminates a lot of work! Our spare bedroom has pale yellow walls now so I don't feel the need to repaint.

Talula -- I hope everything stays OK. That would be so scary.

All -- In regards to buying baby stuff, since we aren't finding out the gender, do you think turquoise stuff is semi-gender neutral? My husband hates all the brown and green gender neutral items out there, and I have to say that that isn't my favorite color combination either. It seems that everything is brown/green, bright pink, or dark blue, or turquoise/aqua.

I think turquoise is fine for a gender neutral color. I do have to say that you are definitely stronger than I am....there is NO WAY I could have waited :)

Oh....and for all you ladies at the 20 week-ish mark. You feel like you have plenty of time still (and you do).....but plan on trying to get everything accomplished early. I am sitting at 32 weeks now and am exhausted all the time and still have so much I need to get done before the baby gets here :)

Well it's official....I have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I'm a little concerned because it feels so late. I didn't do the screening until almost 31 weeks....then I got the results on the Friday before we went on vacation so we lost another week. And now here I am at 32 weeks and just now being diagnosed (and waiting on the dietician to call me).

Skuttle - You said you were diagnosed with GD...what do I have to look forward to. I don't think I will hear from the dietician before tomorrow now and would like to start trying to eat better now, but just not sure how that should be.

JoAnne - congratulations! What a big baby!

Taulula - Wow, how scary - so glad everything is okay.

WDW - glad you had a good trip, and sorry to hear about the diagnosis. I hope you are able to control it with diet. Good luck!

ITA about getting stuff done early if you can - at 34 weeks I feel like a whale, and I'm so tired that doing much other than sitting on the couch just seems exhausting. I wish we had gotten the nursery done earlier, but it just didn't work out. I think the painting on the ceiling may just have to wait until after she is born - what I want to do is labor-intensive, and I'm not sure I have the stamina. I'm kicking myself for not getting in there and getting it done earlier!

Question for everyone - what do you take for a cold while pregnant? I have a horrible one now, and have always just dealt with it before, but I have too much work to get done, and its really slowing me down. Is there anything that's safe and actually works?

One more question. I know this can be a touchy subject, and don't wish by any means to start a debate, but about baby vaccines and autism links and all of that - we have decided to get the vaccines, but on a more spread out schedule than normal. Does anyone know of a good website that discusses an alternative schedule in a, well, calm way?

Pollito...Thinking of you today!

Talula...So glad that things turned out okay! Are you on any sort of bed rest or pelvic rest due to the bleeding? Definitely take it easy!

lspst...You are strong for not finding out! I'm counting down the days until next Tuesday when we can hopefully find out the gender!! When we moved into our house 4 years ago, we knew we would start TTC #2 right away so we didn't do a thing to our spare bedroom, so I have a ton of work to do! Including a ton of junk to find a new home for!!

WDW...After I was diagnosed, I saw a dietician that went over the diet withe me and then I saw a nurse that showed me how to work my meter. I check my blood first thing in the morning (has to stay under 90) and then 2 hours after every meal (has to stay under 120). It's not too bad. I've gotten used to that routine. The worst part is paying for the strips! They gave me a meter and the lancets (needles) are cheap, but the test strips are expensive!

As for the diet, I have to eat three meals a day plus three snacks. Every meal needs to include protein, which was the biggest change for me.

My diet is as follows. I've also included some things I normally eat.

Breakfast:
1oz protein (1 egg or spoon of peanut butter)
2 carbs (1carb = 15 carbs) (1cup milk and Special K cereal, around 2/3 cup I think is the serving)

Snack:
1oz protein: Cheese stick or spoon of peanut butter
2 carbs: fruit, or 6 unsalted crackers (1carb) or 3 graham crackers (1carb)

Lunch:
3oz protein (some sort of meat)
3 carbs: fruit, bread, melba toast
1-2 servings of veggies (1serving - 1/2 cup; Non-starchy)

Snack:
1oz protein: cheese stick or spoon of peanut butter
1 carb: 6 unsalted crackers or 3 graham crackers or 1 fruit

Dinner:
3 oz protein
3 carbs: bread, pasta or rice (1carb=1/2 cup cooked, I think)
1-2 servings of veggies (non-starchy)

Snack (about an hour before bed):
1oz protein: cheese stick
2 carbs: fruit, 100 calorie pack snack

I also have some "free" foods that I can eat whenever. That includes cucumbers, carrots, and celery.

I've learned what makes my blood sugar jump and what doesn't. Sugary stuff doesn't affect it as much as carbs. I really can't eat any kind of potato with it making my sugar spike. I ate ice cream at the mall and it didn't affect me at all.

I also watch my salt since I was put on bed rest with DS for PIH.

If you have any specific questions, just let me know. I received a book from the dietician that went through what counted as a carb, protein, veggie, etc. and the appropriate serving sizes for each.

Hi, My baby is almost 4 weeks old but I still lurk.

I ordered my first son's crib from cribs.com! It was a DaVinci Kalani crib and they had the best price. It came very quickly and was packaged very well. I ordered it 12/8 and it was delivered within 2 weeks.

Oh my!! That is so scary. So glad everything is okay.

Yes, everything is fine now. I was put on bed rest for 2 days, and one week of no intercourse, strenuous exercise or lifting over 10lb. I found a link of what I was diagnosed with:

http://www.justmommies.com/articles/subchorionic-hematoma.shtml

Subchorionic hemmorage.

I had a blot clot that completely released from the uterus. There was no evidence on the sonogram that there was any clot left after I hemmoraged and my bleeding has completely stopped. Sometimes when this the clot completely releases, it causes a miscarriage. I am so thankful that my baby was ok! Some woman continue to bleed for weeks or throughout their pregnancies due to the clot not releasing and "bleeding out".

Skuttle -
Thanks so much for the info. I'm hoping I get a call from the dietician this morning. If not I will be calling my doctor's office again this afternoon.

Hi ladies! William Christopher has arrived! He was born on September 15, 2010 at 9:48 a.m., weighing in at 7 lbs 13 oz and 19 1/2 inches long. His birth was via RCS and the c-section was textbook!

However, on day 2, my blood pressure crept up and then shot way up so we ended up at the hospital for 6 days, instead of 3. We are home now, and I have to be on blood pressure meds for 6 weeks or so, but he is so worth it!

Our first night home, he slept from 10-2am, fed, then slept til 6. Last night he slept from 11-5---UNREAL!!! I keep thinking that the other shoe will drop, but for now I will take it! My DS9 did not sleep for more than 2 hours until he was 9 months old--stinker!

BFing is going well also. He has a good latch so that makes all the difference!

As for pertussis vaccine(tdap), I declined because of all of the extra meds in my system right now. I think it looks like a good idea, though, so I may get it soon.

Here is a picture of my handsome little guy!

I cannot believe that I ever doubted wanting a third--he is an absolute angel:cloud9:

Finally got pictures uploaded. Here is the big man himself.

Things are going good and the Dr feels the jaundice is under control. We can officially stop supplementing and focus on relearning breastfeeding. It's been challenging at times. Yesterday we were able to breastfeed all but twice. We fed once 3 oz pumped breast milk and the other time 2 oz formula. The only challenging part is he doesn't want to feed that frequent. He's happy to wait 3-4 hours between meals. He's been sleeping 5 hours the past 2 nights. The Dr doesn't seem concerned as his weight continues to be good. Started off at 10 lbs 2 oz and was 9 lbs 8 oz at discharge on the 19th. Yesterday he was 9 lbs 8 oz. Other than a few things, all is going great. I'm still pretty sore, but feeling a bit better each day.

Aawwww.....such cuties.

cmskok - glad things went so well, but sorry about the blood pressure issue.

Joanne - When I had dd we ended up having her readmitted 2 days after we were discharged for jaundice and having to supplement with formula and she did just fine with breastfeeding after all that. So although it's more work I'm confident it will work out for you.

I am STILL waiting for the dietician to call. I'm giving them until 2pm and then I'm calling my OB's office again. It will have been over 24 hours since they got my results then and feeling like I was tested late just makes me more anxious to get the resources I need to make the best choices for me and baby when eating.

Hey guys, I know it is super early but I had a positive home pregnancy test last night. Of course I took two more just to make sure. So I get to join you all! This is our second baby. We have a little girl who will be 1 in October. Based on the online calculators, my due date will be somewhere around June 3rd.

Does anyone mind if I start a new list? There was a list for my first pregnancy and I loved being able to see the list of pregnancies and all of the names and stuff. So if you guys send me your info, I would be glad to start one and take care of it!
