Moms to be Part 4

Congrats Irisbud! He is so tiny and cute!!!!!

OK I have a silly question! Do they let you wear your own pajamas in the hospital? (after delivery and all that obviously) It's been over 4 years and I can't remember if I should bother packing them or not.
Also for anyone who has been induced, did the gel actually make you go into labor and did they send you home after it?
My midwife is saying that I'll go to labor and delivery and they will insert the gel, and then I go home and if I haven't gone into labor in 24 hours they will start potossin. The thing that freaks me out is that they are inducing me because of rapid labor, so if the gel is going to make me go into labor why are they sending me home??? She also told me that the gel would give me cramps but that I didn't need to come in unless I felt contractions. With my son I woke up feeling crampy, went to the hospital (which was only 10 minutes away) and was a 7 by the time I got there. He was born 45 minutes later and would have been sooner but they had me try and hold off on pushing until the Dr. got there. I told her I was just going to sleep in the hospital parking lot.
Is it crazy hormonal of me to think they should have me stay at the hospital? I feel like they think I'm exaggerating my last experience, but I was literally apologizing to my husband on the way to the hospital because I woke him up so early and I probably wasn't even in labor.

Is the gel cervidil? My spelling may be off - but that's how it is pronounced.

Yes, I was able to wear my own jammies while at the hospital (after delivery).

Oh yay on the jammies! I feel stupid for not remembering, but it's funny the little things you forget between each baby.
It wasn't cervidel (or how ever it's spelled) that she mentioned it was prosta-something, but I imagine they are similar...
I'm just worried that if they gel makes me feel crampy, I might mistake the beginning of labor, for side effects of the gel.

I bought a gown just to wear at the hospital. I normally wear PJ's, but was told to bring a gown because they would be in to check how things were "down there" regularly. I think I wore it for a few hours before DS sprayed me and I ended up having to wear the hospital gowns.

I was told I could wear my own clothes post delivery, but didn't take anything. The hospital gown didn't bother me too much.

They didn't check me down there, only my incision area. Is it different with a ******l delivery?

I remember them checking the first night and maybe the next morning but not after that, of course they sent me home the next morning after my son and it's been almost 8 years since I had my daughter, so they may have checked daily and I just don't remember. I tore both times though (a not so fun side effect of rapid labor) so maybe that's why? I don't know if they check if you don't need any stitches.
I'll probably pack a nightgown just in case. (maybe two, my DS was a squirter too, and I'm sure this one will be as well...although this time around I did make a few pee pee teepees)
Ugh...does anyone else get so excited about finally meeting baby, but dread that you have to go through labor first???? It's like I can't wait for next week to be here, and I wish it were another month away all at the same time. So hoping there's an epidural in my future this time around!

Hello, all! Just joining in b/c I just found out I am PREGNANT!! I tested positive on 9/1 and based on when I ovulated am about 5 weeks along, due May 9th. Of course, it is early, but hoping it sticks! My hubby, 38, and I, almost 37, just got married on June 26th. This was our 2nd month of trying so I am extremely excited it happened so soon. I wanted it to be this month b/c I am a teacher and wanted my due date to by May. This is my first child. My hubby has a 16 year old from a previous marriage, though, ever since the divorce, he and his son have always lived in a different state. My first doc appt is Sept 22nd. I am a HUGE Disney fan and have been on the boards for awhile. Really excited to join this thread!

I had a ******l delivery. If I remember correctly, I think I may have had a small tear with one or two stitches, so that may be why the checked on me regularly.

ArielSRL...Congratulations!! I hope you have an uneventful pregnancy. :)

I was induced and they let me wear my own pjs, even while I delivered. I wasn't sure if I was going to have an epidural or not and I hate those open-backed gowns, so I wanted to wear my own long nightshirt in case I was up and about alot. They said it was fine with them as long as I was okay with it potentially getting messy (it didn't, but I'd brought extra pjs on purpose knowing that might happen). As long as you're willing to hike it up ;) and if it has easy access up-top (buttons or a loose neck?) if you plan to breastfeed, they shouldn't have a problem with it it, I'd think.

My DH and I rearranged the baby's room like 10 times yesterday. We bought a dresser and crib over the weekend. Our poor baby's room is so mismatched. The dresser is white, the crib is walnut, the walls is grey wallpaper, curtains are bright red, and there's a full sized bed also in the room. Yeah, it's pretty kooky. I'm kind of embarrassed when people asked me what color is the nursury. Uh, every color in the rainbow? :lmao: But I doubt it will matter to the baby. Anyone else have a mismatched nursury?

Congrats Ariel! I'm expecting my first too, and everyone has been so helpful here.

Coneygoil -- I'll be right with you on the mismatched nursery. Right now the room has kind of turquoise carpet, pale yellow walls, and a double bed in it. I'm hoping at least to get a dresser and crib that match the bed -- it's basically unstain wood so it shouldn't be too hard. My DH and I want to move in a year or two, so I don't want to make the room look too much like a nursery. I found the cutest stencils for a jungle themed room, but I really don't want to spend all the time painting the animals only to have to paint over them all in a year when we put the townhouse up for sale.

ArielSRL - welcome! Your first appointment is the day after my RCS!

monkeybug - I wore my own nightgown after the first day, made me feel more "normal" again. They did not get ruined, but I was ok with the possibility that it might. It's only been 3 years, and it's one that I don't wear often since it's bigger than my normal style, so I'll probably wear it again (in 2 weeks!) since I care even less now if it gets ruined.

As for your gel and induction, does your midwife know how fast you went last time? I would think they wouldn't want to send you home if that's the case....

coneygoil - You're right, the baby won't even notice or care what the room looks like. My first baby's room was totally mis-matched, until my little sister came in and fixed it up for me. This time when we bought our new house, we purposely left a room blank knowing we wanted another baby, and had my sister decorate from the start. I picked out the bedding and wall colors, and some of the things hanging on the walls, but she arranged everything and did the stencil. She really did a great job - I'll try to post pics later.

Pollito-
That room is sooo, so stinkin' cute!!!! I love it!!!
You and your sister did a great job!

The problem with the practice that I go to is that there are 4 midwives, and you see a new one each time, at my last apt. I saw one that I'd never seen before, and she's the one who explained how it all would go. I told her about my labor with my son, and my concerns about not knowing if the cramping is from the gel or labor, but she just kept telling me not to worry, that I would know the difference. She then went on to explain to me what a contraction feels like....at which point I asked her if it was in my chart that this was my third...trust me two labors with no drugs! I know what contractions feel like!!! I just got the feeling she thought I was exaggerating. Hopefully I see a different midwife at my next apt!!!

I'm not crazy about the furniture in our nursery. DD was a surprise so we used the crib that DH used when he was little, his old dresser, and changing table. They are all light wood and not a set at all.

We did get a new crib this time around, but plan on using the old changing table and dresser. The crib is lighter, but close.

I'm just not a light wood person. We have dark wood in every other room in our house.

However, this is probably our last so I wasn't going to go and spend the $ on a new dresser and changing table. I did the crib for safety reasons.

I pulled out DD's bedding thinking it was unisex. Nope, not very boy-like at all so I just ordered new bedding for this baby. We also painted, but I do not plan on doing a border or anything b/c I don't want have to paint again in a couple of years.

Pollito - Love your nursery. Very cute! :thumbsup2

Pollito - Adorable nursery!

I had my second ultrasound today and there was a heartbeat (158 bpm)!!!! I feel so relieved. I had my first ultrasound 2 weeks ago and they said I was 6w1d. Today they said I was measuring 7w1d, so my due date has been pushed back to April 25 now! I am a little disappointed that I'm not as far along as I thought, but so excited that my baby looks to be doing well! :)

Question for you ladies -- how far along were you when you told people? Family? Friends? Work?

I was 20 weeks when I told people (other than my mom, who I told at 12). They didn't hear the heartbeat with the doppler until 16 weeks, and by then I was so nervous I just wanted to wait until after the ultrasound, so that's what we did.
Plus it's nice this time around that when people ask when I'm due, and I say "next week" they say "already???".
Much better than with my son and daughter (when we told everyone much earlier) and all I heard at the end was "your still pregnant?"
